first verse of "foreign"

i bought another car, but i don't really need it
each is 50,000, i guess i'm being greedy
you make the cake and eat it, i don't think you see it
girlfriend don't believe it, your money is anemic
my money is a beast, but i am not conceited
my squad pulled out them choppers
and your squad retreated, like michael jackson "beat it"
my crib you need to leave it
i just wanted a quicky(?), my nigga called me heathcliff
gucci very geeky by the chief that he be peefin
like girls who likin women, it's just the life i'm livin
i text your girlfriend nello(?), she called back i said "hello"
she said she wanna go out, i said let's check my schedule

"no no no" - kinda love this song. i think it's a good example of how gucci can do typically boring girl songs. for one the beat is really cool, but he finds this nice & easy & bouncy flow that is playful & nonchalant and matches the tone of the song right. and the verses are kind of humorous and i like that he basically picks one syllable for each bar and goes off from there

you know a nigga street, vacation for a week
we sexin on the beach and i ain't talkin bout the drink
open doors for her when i take her out to eat
i'm rollin up a sweet while she massage a nigga feet
lil shawty so fine, i got her sippin wine
i tell her i don't treat but she be knowin a nigga lyin
[??] can't stand me, they can't understand me
while they hoes hoppin i got her shoppin in miami
everything g, her french cost bout a g
her bag a couple grand and they compliments from me
see i could be the king, and she could be my queen
and we could be a team and fulfill each other's dreams
love the way she talk, love the way she walk
i'm always on her mind and she always in my thoughts
i got her at the house, we blowin on an ounce
i'm cookin dinner for her tonight we aint goin out

the second verse is lol for many reasons, i will post it here

no wonderbra, she got monster juggs
like a porn star, nice ass, nice jaw
[??] so i'm bringin my entourage
buy the bar and bust a gun and put it in the air
if you're down with gucci gucci tell your boy that i'm the flare
girl so fine, just look at her stare
million worth of ice on, no need to compare
your jeweler is a loser, i think mine need a cooler
more chains than rick the ruler, for breakfast got to sicily
wake up eat lunch in italy, buy you all kinda iced out ornaments
lil trap boys do that normally

brrrmuda triangle (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 20 October 2009 22:51 (fourteen years ago) link

i guess i like this song because the whole tape is pretty dark & hard and this one is just kinda breezy but it's not bad

started off as friends, and now we got a plan
i call her on her cellular and she callin me her man
let's go to japan, maybe even france
spend a hundred grand, overseas we holdin hands
gucci, louis, prada, it doesn't even matter
spoil her like my daughter so she love me like her father
cruisin the atlantic, isn't it romantic
spaghetti strap dress, she ain't wearin panties
sex her on the couch, freak her on the sink
i think, tomorrow, i might go buy her a mink

i think this is the best verse on all of burrprint - first verse from "trap goin crazy"

yeah i been saying this, jaw drops every time i hear it

k3vin k., Wednesday, 21 October 2009 01:00 (fourteen years ago) link

i'm sure this would be pretty innocuous to everyone except the most indebted gucci stans, but i love this part of the third verse of "trap goin crazy"

spy me on 285 i'm slidin round the loop

the verbal trickery of spy/285/slide almost seems like second nature to his raps now, like he just naturally speaks in successive rhyme.

Jacques_Lamure, Wednesday, 21 October 2009 02:55 (fourteen years ago) link

lovin "timmy" right now -- def a track to convert the yet-to-be-converted, at least trad rap stans who like a 'story' song so they can praise storytelling abilities lol

I really dig when Zaytoven is used for this effect (as in "timmy") -- where its like this nu-southern rza, giving things a kind of rundown technoid noir that really gives the mood a way more visceral & current & relevent feel than i get from, like, the new raekwon

i got nothin (deej), Wednesday, 21 October 2009 03:01 (fourteen years ago) link

in some ways, "timmy" is closer to early wu tang (like "Gold") in the way its evocativeness feels very spontaneous & rugged & real, where rae's new one, as great as it is, feels much more rehearsed & fill-in-the-blanks

i got nothin (deej), Wednesday, 21 October 2009 03:02 (fourteen years ago) link

i'm pretty confident that

"party of the lenses?"

i love the verses on "trap going crazy" but there's something awkward about that hook that bugs me. sounds like a rush job deliverywise, i suspect it's a first take or something. any of you know who raps the third verse on "excuse me"? it's my favourite song on the tape and there's no guest listed but that last verse sure don't sound like gucci to these ears:

i'm in the bank making depos
while ya'll be gettin repo'd
i'm zero zero zero comma zero after zero

samosa gibreel, Wednesday, 21 October 2009 03:59 (fourteen years ago) link

does he have a song called "Timmy" too or is deej just so close to "Timothy" now that he's on a nickname basis with the song?

some dude, Wednesday, 21 October 2009 04:46 (fourteen years ago) link

that depos/repo'd verse is definitely gucci

xp to ship - lol yes deej is on nickname basis with the song

brrrmuda triangle (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 21 October 2009 06:44 (fourteen years ago) link

re: "trap goin crazy" - "see the frozen crystals when i hit the cigarillo" is maybe my favorite image that he's painted ever

also a slight correction to my transcription of the third verse

"180 greasy will have you outside in a bummer" is actually " will have you outside in a bundle"

personally i think the chorus is dope, i think the linear progression of it is very natural & sensical & flows really well in a manner that is kind of hard to quantify in a catchy chorus. i mean obv that's because of the thurs-sun narrative but still.

and if i had no daddy then that mean id be a bastard child
my pistol'll whip you like ya daddy
i'll smoke you like a black n mild

my flow so super-sweet, every verse i get a cavity
drop me so deep off in yo girl yo girlfriend wanna marry me
mind so fuckin sick that they quarantine the studio
the diamonds in my ear clearer than a shot of julio
gucci mane la flare got beef like hardees

nothing like a wise man,
im fixed on the prize man
and if i told you you was dope than i would be a lyin man
fire than the fire man
hotter than the frying pan
and you would never see me homie, its like you a blind man
i started my own label cause i am my own man
you niggas are not a label
yall too fuckin old, man

he's definitely more jocular & comical on a lot of the cold war tracks - probably a mix of them fucking around in the studio & just wanting a different mood/vibe coming off the burrprint

i think one of the unintroduced tensions in this stuff is the feeling that he's gonna eventually run out of ways to say stuff! like, look at how many images he 'burns' in just that diamonds hook i just quoted ... its like, you feel the need to hear it all cuz at some pt hes just simply gonna run out of ideas ... (admittedly this may be a more fan/obsessive perspective than casual fan one)

i got nothin (deej), Wednesday, 21 October 2009 22:17 (fourteen years ago) link

i think that too but then he writes a chorus like the one in "excuse me"

stuff like the multiple sweet=cavity lines make me feel like he's not that far off sometimes (although even as i say that "Follow Me" might my favorite song off these recent tapes)

Ummm, maybe he could talk about something other than cars, ice and women?

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 21 October 2009 22:27 (fourteen years ago) link

it seems like every few months he gets stuck on a few different words that populate his songs of that time and then he kind of moves off onto something else. on burrprint/cold war there are lots of uses of "sauna" & i don't think i remember him using "ornament" up until v recently.

not much to that except that maybe he's still got a bunch of words to fixate on and grow off of. kind of just an observation tho.

i think one thing i like about how he talks about cars, ice & women is ... i always think of one of the first pieces of rap writing that really got me thinking, & it was kelefa sanneh on jay-z right before blueprint dropped -- he was talking about how jay's tendency w/ bragging about that kind of shit was that it was ultimately empty, that jay-z was not a hedonist, he was all about status -- you never know how the champagne tastes, etc -- anyway with gucci its still very much about status, no doubt, but there's also an element of joyousness (and most definitely hedonism) in his descriptions of his status symbols ... they're not 'just' symbols, they color his world -- plus his party songs are obviously far more hedonistic

i got nothin (deej), Wednesday, 21 October 2009 22:35 (fourteen years ago) link

I was just being dense when I mentioned cars, ice and women. Of course he raps about other stuff. (And yeah, Timothy and Dope Boys from Burrprint are ridic).

Also, DJ Scream - his voice is makes me just think of Westwood at his worst. It's terrible.
