they should've released "throw money" w/ sean garrett off of 'guccimerica' as the lead single if they were gonna go for a crossover r&b joint. much more aligned with the style that cultivated his fanbase & it doesn't suck

everybody loves am0n (J0rdan S.), Friday, 23 October 2009 19:05 (fourteen years ago) link

^^^^i was thinking EXACTLY the same thing

i got nothin (deej), Friday, 23 October 2009 19:10 (fourteen years ago) link

beat is super great -- actually i think if you wanted the ultimate gucci track you'd combine the music/hooks from that one, the structure/thematic consistency of 'follow me' & the lyrical fun of 'diamonds' right before it ... those three songs kinda capture the best of 3 sides of his appeal

i got nothin (deej), Friday, 23 October 2009 19:12 (fourteen years ago) link

another thing about that harvilla article -- he describes gucci's delivery as a 'snarl' which is so totally wrong -- gucci's emotions tend to be super-restrained, his default deliver style is a kind of detached jokiness which is part of why this stuff is so fun, hes not angry or 'snarling' at all, hes too cool for that kind of shit

i got nothin (deej), Thursday, 29 October 2009 23:58 (fourteen years ago) link

the best description of gucci's voice i've read was when jordan said he was like a komodo dragon. a lot of the time he sounds like a drunk old man (in a good way)

i can't think of anything more pointless than baby getting the last verse of the remix - they might as well have the mp3 self-delete at that point

a goon boy (J0rdan S.), Friday, 30 October 2009 08:14 (fourteen years ago) link

am i the only one surprised that it's "ray-drick" and not "rah-drick"

a goon boy (J0rdan S.), Friday, 30 October 2009 08:16 (fourteen years ago) link

for some reason i am really unexcited about the actual album.

fyi vagina (a hoy hoy), Friday, 30 October 2009 08:20 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah me too tbh - for me it's cuz it feels kind of unnecessary, like he's dropping an album in about a month but he just put out like 2 albums worth of music in the last 3 weeks. when wayne dropped c3 he hadn't really put anything out for a while so it felt like a good build up of anticipation, plus he had two massive singles so it felt like this huge cultural event. "wasted" has a lot of momentum in that regard but it's kinda old & "spotlight" is garbage. i'm waiting for the tracklist to totally gauge my excitement for the album.

a goon boy (J0rdan S.), Friday, 30 October 2009 08:24 (fourteen years ago) link

altho at that point i don't even know what i want from the tracklist. if it's a bunch of zaytoven & drumma boy productions it will feel like a mixtape being sold in best buy. otoh i don't want a whole album full of storch beats. who knows.

anyway, dec 8 is gonna be crazy. have any of these gotten pushed back?

Timbaland – Shock Value II – December 8
Gucci Mane – The State vs. Radric Davis – December 8
Snoop Dogg – Malice N Wonderland – December 8
Usher – Raymond vs. Raymond – December 8
Robin Thicke – Sex Therapy – December 8
Clipse – Till the Casket Drops – December 8
Redman – Reggie Noble 9 1/2 – December 8
Game – The R.E.D. Album – December 8

a goon boy (J0rdan S.), Friday, 30 October 2009 08:27 (fourteen years ago) link

I just feel like it is going to be some horrible major label disaster where they don't understand what makes gucci great but convince him to do what they think will sell instead. is that stupid? i've kind of got the cocaine blunts thing in my head, as well as some of the kind of lame guest verses when i say this.

fyi vagina (a hoy hoy), Friday, 30 October 2009 08:27 (fourteen years ago) link

Yay Redman. Love that dude. First ever gig I went to was him and Eric Sermon. Better be dope.

fyi vagina (a hoy hoy), Friday, 30 October 2009 08:28 (fourteen years ago) link

gucci could finish third behind usher (the lock at #1 imo) & tim - game always sells well but it seems like his popularity is slowly waning & he has no single right now altho i guess he's dropping that chris brown & pharrell joint which will probably be trash but i guess it has a chance of being popular. that snoop single is creeping but he hasn't had an album break #3 this decade. race for the bottom between clipse & redman will be fun.

a goon boy (J0rdan S.), Friday, 30 October 2009 08:32 (fourteen years ago) link

nah your concerns are well within reason sam

a goon boy (J0rdan S.), Friday, 30 October 2009 08:32 (fourteen years ago) link

you think tim is gonna hit the charts high??? thats crazy talk

i got nothin (deej), Friday, 30 October 2009 08:41 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah maybe not idk - just figured the name alone would pump it. seems weird to me that they aren't pushing it back.

a goon boy (J0rdan S.), Friday, 30 October 2009 08:44 (fourteen years ago) link

i'm hulla excited for this album. as much as i love a good gucci tape, "back to the traphouse" is still my favourite release of his. sure "spotlight" might not be the best of signs, but hit or miss it's important to do something bigger on an album and i get the feeling that's what's coming.

samosa gibreel, Friday, 30 October 2009 22:31 (fourteen years ago) link

Timbaland got pushed up to the big Thanksgiving week w/ Rihanna etc, there's no way Game is outselling Gucci when a single with Gucci is his big last ditch effort to get a radio single, and I don't think Thicke or Redman will keep that date

since it's a wayne feature produced by bangladesh, i'm going to assume yes, but i haven't seen anything definitive

whole tracklist should be leaking soon anyway

a goon boy (J0rdan S.), Monday, 2 November 2009 17:40 (fourteen years ago) link

dylan fyi ethan's been banned for a few months now, don't know if he's been looking at the board lately

retrunofthaghmac (some dude), Monday, 2 November 2009 17:44 (fourteen years ago) link

wow it's so refreshing to hear bangladesh finally abandon the "a milli" drums and go back to his living legends sound that i almost don't care that the song kinda sucks

returnofthaghmac (some dude), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 02:02 (fourteen years ago) link

this is great! don't love the lazy delivery on gucci's hook but the rest is golden.

samosa gibreel, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 03:30 (fourteen years ago) link

y u think this sucks al??

heart goin ham (deej), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 03:43 (fourteen years ago) link

only listened once because my internet is fucc'd at the moment but i didn't love that new wayne gucci song either.

last few days my gucci headspace has been dominated by

catch me shoppin with my bitch, neiman marcus
yes your darlin
double park my aston martin
bless your heart
and smokin bubble kush
sippin syrup with my girl from europe
her brain is superb like a nerd
but she's not a nerd

the first part is like something cam wishes he could come up with these days. 'bless your heart' is so perfect.

Jacques_Lamure, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 00:52 (fourteen years ago) link

i just don't like the dark muddy vibe of the beat, awkward chorus that feels almost out of sync with it, bad fit for gucci even if i like some parts of his verse, wayne's annoying, even the pairing itself seems kind of pointless with something as good as "we be steady mobbin" already out there

the tuppence takes manhattan (some dude), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 00:58 (fourteen years ago) link

i didn't love we be steady mobbin at first either but at some point it all clicked for me and i just had to laff at how awesome 'so icey so no nike boy just gucci louis prada, excuse me / gucci mane keep shittin on us, why that boy keep buyin jewelry?' was compared to 'we're at your face like man cum'

also what the fuck is up? is a great way to start a verse

Jacques_Lamure, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 01:19 (fourteen years ago) link

aston martin & double parking is a thing that he's done before (which doesn't make it any less dope the second time, just another one of these things that it seems like he brings back and riffs off of) - i think he first used it on the third verse of "beat it up" w trey songz off of the movie pt 2

lay it down like carpet, barbie
aston martin, double park it
beat it like we got a problem
pop it till she call me poppa
freakin partners probly never bother with a second option
hoppin, got the mattress poppin, rockin while her girlfriend watchin

a goon boy (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 02:10 (fourteen years ago) link

"we be steady mobbin" is really good - i dismissed it at first because it sounds so cut & paste, what with the chorus just being old wayne lines, and wayne nowadays isn't always tolerable, the "man cum" but it's def one of the best gucci verses of the year, just for "east atlanta cockin hammers, bandanas on car antennas" alone

a goon boy (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 02:14 (fourteen years ago) link

love how often gucci talks about having sex with people's girlfriends in front of them.
