sadly have only played like 3 hours of MW2 all-in this week. busy busy : /

forgot to relay my hair moments from last sunday's run: descending at 35mph one of my bottle cages decided to dislodge itself and come flying off, earlier in the run the bottle from that cage popped out and I somehow managed to catch it between my leg and chain while flying along at 20mph. thankfully it was in my back pocket when the cage went flying.

Absolutely atrocious weather today. My club was supposed to have a training session at Hog Hill on descending and cornering at speed. I don't know why I bothered going: there was never any chance of it happening. Obviously when I got there I found it had been cancelled. I had a 19-mile round trip in gale force winds that were nearly blowing me off the road at times with horizontal torrential rain that felt like bullets being fired into my face.

two weeks pass...

Meh. That ^ was the last time I've been able to ride a bike. Haven't ridden at all for 18 days and counting: first because the stormy weather continued, then I got ill with a vomiting bug that turned into a weird dizziness virus that turned into a sore throat that has turned into a hacking cough (been ill for about 13 days now). I was hoping to do the winter series of races at Hog Hill that starts this Saturday, but even if I'm well enough to ride by then I'll be in no shape to race.

Did my longest ride so far yesterday, 44 miles total. Lots of hills. Last week I replaced my 13-28t freewheel with a racier-looking 13-21, which I'm now beginning to question. The main part of the ride looked like this: http://bit.ly/6hCsyE

naus, Tuesday, 8 December 2009 06:06 (fourteen years ago) link

21 doesn't sound much use for getting up hills

FIFA Brutish & Short (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 08:50 (fourteen years ago) link

I figured it wasn't going to be a problem, as I live up a hill, and could take it no problem in 52x28, which is close enough to 40x21 as far as gearing goes. These climbs, though, while at a similar grade, went on for much longer.

naus, Tuesday, 8 December 2009 09:13 (fourteen years ago) link

But I know know that something like this is out of the question for me.

naus, Tuesday, 8 December 2009 09:17 (fourteen years ago) link

*now know

naus, Tuesday, 8 December 2009 09:18 (fourteen years ago) link

Blimey, 40/21. That's 51 gear inches; exactly 50% higher than my lowest gear of 34 gear inches (34/27) and I use it often enough to be very glad it's there...

Back on the road again: 31.5 miles today and grateful of the mudguards. The inner geek in me is getting mildly excited by the fact it's nearly a year since I started a spreadsheet logging every bike ride I did: this means it's nearly time for the ANNUAL TOTAL to reveal itself.

FIFA Brutish & Short (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Wednesday, 9 December 2009 14:16 (fourteen years ago) link

ysi?

SKATAAAAAAAAAAA (cozwn), Wednesday, 9 December 2009 14:16 (fourteen years ago) link

Not just an annual total, but monthly totals, analysis by type of ride (alone or with others, race or training or sportive, which bike I was on).... the possibilities, if not quite endless, seem enough to make me waste at least an hour of my Christmas holidays on.

FIFA Brutish & Short (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Wednesday, 9 December 2009 14:19 (fourteen years ago) link

I have an annual total too! I'll just manage to pass 4,000 miles by the end of the year, assuming no accidents etc. before then.

Mark C, Wednesday, 9 December 2009 15:32 (fourteen years ago) link

Had my first bike dream that I remembered in the morning. Had nothing to do with riding unfortunately.

For some reason I was in the market to buy a $5000 race bike and found one on craigslist for $3000. I arrange to meet up and bring a check for $3000. The guy brings out the bike and it's boxed. I hand over the check and bring the bike home and take it out of the box and it's a PK RIPPER bmx. I woke up my SO saying I had to call the bank and stop payment on the check.

~~dark energy~~ (Steve Shasta), Wednesday, 9 December 2009 17:08 (fourteen years ago) link

yes i was thinking about this yearly total thing as well. i don't have a spreadsheet but the commute is roughly the same mileage every day. (11 X 5) X 50= 2750. that's alot of miles for me dudes! my first full year biking EVERYDAY.

Meteor Crater (jdchurchill), Wednesday, 9 December 2009 20:24 (fourteen years ago) link
