odd because that's an unusually tough chorus to rap along to, imo

practically my only IRL convo about gucci has been w/ my sister-in-law who was kind of disturbed that "i'm a dog" is the most popular song among the 5th graders she teaches in southeast DC

i talked to two 11/12 year olds at a park about gucci after i overheard them talking about him - i probably posted about it itt

also i had a few cursory conversations with my irl friends who read music blogs after they got wind of the shrimp top 50 thing, but they didn't see too interested

moved on to hypnagogic pop no doubt

wu-tang is probably the most popular rap group of all time amongst stereotypical white people (along with maybe snoop & dre) — ESPECIALLY indie rock fans — so it's pretty easy to see them buying into the 'new class of rap stars meme' surrounding wale & cudi

in lots of respects wu-tang serves the same fanbase as like the roots even tho wu rap about drugs & murder and all that - they have the nerd/geek vibe to them that basically every other legendary gangsta rap artist/group doesn't

and wu are seen as very cerebral rap which is how guys like cudi & wale were marketed

basically, ppl are stupid

basically there's a huge percentage of hip hop fans that are basically groundhogs that poke their head out every now and again when there's a lot of hype for something, but most of their time see their shadow and go back to bumping 36 chambers

i'm not sure if i'm 100% behind street cred. they sound so exhausted, like it was 3 am at the studio and gucci was like "okay, fuck, alright, i'll do another take" and that's the one they picked.
