It's being offered by someone else.

On second-and-a-half look, this really does fall to the ravey/hard side, more than I remember as as first struck by.

Age of Love, Rabbit In The Moon and The Ethics look good to me.

Joey Beltram - Beltram Vol1 [includes Energy Flash – original pressing] – R&S Records
Dave Clarke – Red 1 [original pressing] – Bush
Dave Clarke – Red 2 [original pressing on red vinyl] – Bush
Teste – The Wipe – Probe
Polygon Window – Quoth – Warp
Mike Dunn – Magic Feet remixes – Djax
Carl Craig – The Climax – Planet e
The Age of Love – The Age of Love – Radikal

All of the above are worth checking out at least - you should be able to hear on youtube before making a choice.

i used to love "Never Lost His Hardcore" i remember local rave djs used to use it to transition from the techno part of their sets into jungle. listening now, it sounds like a hyped up C+C Music Factory.

myndbloom, Thursday, 12 November 2009 20:31 (fourteen years ago) link

Yeah, I'll be able to listen to stuff there. I'll probably get the Joey Beltram one, and def. check out the Mike Dunn/Polygon Window/Age of Love stuff, depends on how much of a deals I can get (I'm so used to paying $2 for craigslist records, of course none of them have been The Climax or Original Joey Beltram pressings or the like).

Thanks, all, for the help.

robotman do da doo plastikman remix is brilliant, not least that my copy has hawtin's dad masquerading as the mysterious "robotman" on the sleeve. srsly, tho, it's a tune and a half.

Trope – Amphetamine – Prolekult

I really loved this one when I was a teen and it still sounds pretty dope today:

Tuomas, Friday, 13 November 2009 18:55 (fourteen years ago) link

From EDB list (Thursday 12 Nov), I'd put forward as absolutely essential the following:

ABSOLUTELY VITAL:
Joey Beltram - Beltram Vol1 [includes Energy Flash – original pressing] – R&S Records ( The greatest Techno Track Of All Time )

Dave Clarke – Red 2 [original pressing on red vinyl] – Bush ( big classic visceral, immense machine funk that still sounds great. You'll have heard this alot already. You'll need a warehouse to make this actually work though. As for Red 1 - yeah, but not personally that into it. Red 2 and Southside are my favourite Dave Clarke workz, Southside for the disco inflections.)

WORTH IT FOR $5.00 or less:

System 7 – Alpha Wave (Plastikman’s Acid House mix) – Big Life (This basically is one of the finest examples of early 90s trance/techno/acid - the last 5 minutes is a monster 303 frenzy. Fuck, I can smell the vicks and see the lazerz just by listening to 30secs of this track. Its pretty fucking immense. But really - who dances to this kind of stuff these day?? Also in terms of Hawtins acid stuff from this time, I prefer this to the Robotman Do Da Doo remix whose vocal "Got to do the do" really grates me, but structurally they're the same. I always thought of the Do Da Doo remix as an Acperience clone, whilst the System 7 mix is more unique)

Orbital – Lush (Psycick Warrriors of Gaia and CJ Bolland remixes) – Internal (worth it for the long, very sparse, slow build of the Psychick Warriors mix aka Lush 3-4)

Polygon Window – Quoth – Warp

Robert Armani – The Remixes [includes Circus Bells Hardfloor remix) – Djax (Hardfloor innit - seminal; doo doo doo de doo. de doo doo doo de doo. de doo doo doo de doo looped and each pitched and squeelling higher and higher. )

KNOCK HIM DOWN TO $1.00:
And these two have a kind of historical relevance, but I'd bargain for them to thrown in as freebies:

The Age of Love – The Age of Love – Radikal (NB: The Jam & Spoon Watch Out For Stella Mix is the one to go for)

Rabbit in the Moon – Phases of an Out of Body Experience - Hardkiss

AVOID:
I'd avoid Barbarella – Barbarella – Harthouse - it hasn't aged well.

Tannenbaum Schmidt, Saturday, 14 November 2009 01:24 (fourteen years ago) link

Well, I own a copy of the Climax, which is definitely the most (physically) beautiful record I own. Not to mention an original pressing of Beltram Vol 1, the Doo Da Doo Remixes, and a very pleasant surprise, a copy of Altered States :)

You're right about Red 2, though, it's a banger, and would kill in a warehouse or dingy basement, but dude was charging more than I'd have expected for it, so...

EDB, Wednesday, 18 November 2009 02:49 (fourteen years ago) link

That Rabbit In The Moon 12" is about 25-40 bucks on Discogs.com. Those Hardkiss records continue to go up in price too. I'd get that one for sure.

one month passes...

HEY GUYZ.

after some searching, it seems that Spencer Kincy AKA Gemini had been filing Torts/wrongful injury claims against the Department of Defense, the CIA, and the US government as late as September 2008.

so he's probably still alive, somewhere in Chicago.

Oh dear, that doesn't sound good, even if it's nice to to know he's still alive.

Tuomas, Sunday, 27 December 2009 15:44 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah. i mean, if he's still alive and filing what probably amount to specious, schizinspired suits against the government, he at least has enough presence of mind to FILE those suits in the first place. which means he might have enough presence of mind to allow someone to put out a discography of his amazing amazing work, as long as he gets credit and $$$.

I'd been nostalgic for the Time to Get Ill tapes for a while, and it looks like someone finally got around to uploading them and a whole ton of other stuff. Dunno if anyone else is interested in mid-90s Baltimore rave sounds, but if you are then here you go:

Jay Danham is a weird dude. He was right there for the second wave and then he got sucked into crappy hard techno as the 90's progressed.

This is kind of dope in a Detroit obscurity sort of way:

oh yeah, i LOVE that bango track "mystical adventure" from the virtual sex comp. how is the other bango ep on fragile? looking like i should basically just buy everything on fragile at this point

anita bonghit (rionat), Sunday, 31 January 2010 01:13 (fourteen years ago) link

I couldn't tell you to be honest. I don't own any of the Bango records.

It is so easy to find digital versions of old dance vinyl that you might as well dig around for the whole catalog and figure out what you want. Fragile was a good label, definitely worth looking into.

Retroactive was pretty bananas label as well. A lot of it is rare as hens teeth and super expensive, but it is really good. Carl Craig ran it with Damon Booker before Carl split to run Planet E. The Placid Angles record is dope early John Beltran shit, Carl Craig's stuff was good, Mark Kichen's record was dope, and the Inertia record was some of Gerald Simpson's best deep techno stuff.

I posted it up thread, but if you are into the early breakbeat stuff that wasn't corny, you might want to look into this record:

http://www.discogs.com/Intelligent-Communication-Principles-Of-Motion-EP/release/98217

It is still stupid cheap because nobody knows what it is yet, but it is really good. It is one of those records that is just waiting to be dropped by the right name and it will be worth a lot more. I think when ambient house comes back it will be fashionable again.

the muddy waters of donk (Display Name), Sunday, 31 January 2010 03:07 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah well obviously i could spend hours upon hours researching labels on youtube and buying records on discogs, that's pretty much all i do anyway. and obviously i've already looked into fragile records. just wanted to talk about some music i've been feeling lately

it's amazing how easy youtube makes it to buy records now. however, i spent a good couple of hours today in some record shops and only came away with one record - somehow i kept thinking "best leave that and check it out on youtube first"

I love those psychofuk records - but what is the story behind them? is it true that sean deason produced them and then someone ripped him off and released them as psychofuk? one of the releases sounded really like deason's 'the shit..'

I should reiterate, this is an absolute monster of a record, sets a standard for exactly what a 4 track (house) EP should be and do.

Also, the first CD of Frictionalism is down, and it's like there's a party in my ears and everyone's invited. Thank goodness for Rush Hour and its relevance for early 20's ignoranti like myself.
