US or UK?

Mark G, Friday, 13 November 2009 13:57 (fourteen years ago) link

Also, does it have the multicoloured inner sleeve?

Funny, combine two of the above: I recently bout ChubCheck's "Let's Twist Again" album, original green parlophone UK, and the inner sleeve was the very same multicoloured Sgt Pepper inner!

Mark G, Friday, 13 November 2009 13:59 (fourteen years ago) link

http://www.norwegianwood.org/beatles/disko/lp/images/pepper3.jpg

It looks like this.

Mark G, Friday, 13 November 2009 14:00 (fourteen years ago) link

it actually has a sleeve promoting a capitol records songwriting contest! which i've never seen before. and its a u.s. copy. early capitol pressing.

scott seward, Friday, 13 November 2009 16:06 (fourteen years ago) link

OK, I don't know.

I believe the Capitol ones had the sleeve above as well, so here goes:

The Beatles albums sold plenty when first out, so they are only worth decent sums if they are close to excellent in appearance and play quality, sleeve/inners (and insert) included. (Prices go exponential the closer they get to mint)

30 bucks sounds a bit high for yours. Check e-bay completed auctions is yr best bet.

Mark G, Friday, 13 November 2009 16:13 (fourteen years ago) link

i'd say closer to $20 for a VG mono peppers. is the jacket in nice shape? inserts?

ian, Friday, 13 November 2009 16:31 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah i had second thoughts last night and decided that 20 was more like it. no inserts. jacket is in good shape though.

scott seward, Friday, 13 November 2009 16:40 (fourteen years ago) link

i just don't see them much around. most stores put their nice copies up for auction. so i was gonna go a little high just cuz...i don't know why. cuz i don't see them for sale around here! but i think 20 will equal quick sale/happy customer.

scott seward, Friday, 13 November 2009 16:43 (fourteen years ago) link

found a minty hendrix r u experienced early reprise stereo (tri-color label, blah, blah) and put 20 on that. have NO misgivings there. clean early stereo hendrix albums i hardly ever find. cuz people liked to party with jimi.

scott seward, Friday, 13 November 2009 16:45 (fourteen years ago) link

people STILL like to party with jimi.

sealed copies of the Howling Hex's "Section 2" and "Return Of The Third Tower"??

wondering what to start them at on ebay.

sleeve, Wednesday, 18 November 2009 00:20 (fourteen years ago) link

return of the third tower was available earlier this year on the drag city website, but isn't now. maybe they found warehouse copies? it wasn't just a glitch, though, cause i got one!

i mean, i think that you should start most stuff that you expect to sell for $10-50 at 9.99... lots of people here have more experience selling than me, though, so im curious to see what everyone else thinks.

69, Wednesday, 18 November 2009 00:50 (fourteen years ago) link

i sold some extra copies of the trio on ebay earlier this year. #1 went for $20-something, the others for around $10. i should have sold them a couple years back when they were going for $60-$70 per. oh well. missed the boat on my murder city devils LPs too.

jØrdån (omar little), Wednesday, 18 November 2009 00:52 (fourteen years ago) link

maybe you should just sell section 2 to me, sleeve.

69, Wednesday, 18 November 2009 00:54 (fourteen years ago) link

some people are just really out of touch. they're hard to deal with cuz they really think they know what they're talking about but are so often guided by things like goldmine & record collector magazine. something is only worth as much as you can sell it for--i don't care if yer seventies elvis picture sleeve is "mint" it ain't worth more than a couple bucks.

^^^this is true, it's like all these people i have met over the years who hear about this new thing called "record collecting" (i blame those "vinyl is back!" articles tbqf) and think their stuff is worth $20 apiece. there's a used bookstore near me that is amazing in this regard, all this crappy '70s rock and weak '80s soul on vinyl for $8-$10. kinda ties in with my other recent rants about this i guess.

jØrdån (omar little), Wednesday, 18 November 2009 00:55 (fourteen years ago) link

How much could I get for a VG+ copy of Rational Youth's Cold War Night Life? Really common in Canada (I've seen at least five copies in the last few years), but desirable in Europe? I also have loads of early singles before that album (some in French) that don't show up on "completed" items on the bay.

Michael Servetus, Saturday, 21 November 2009 03:17 (fourteen years ago) link

^ i just bought that rational youth album last weekend for $8

jaxon, Saturday, 21 November 2009 03:52 (fourteen years ago) link

discogs listings are a bit higher than that. i think i got lucky buying it in a sorta suburban record store.

jaxon, Saturday, 21 November 2009 03:54 (fourteen years ago) link

Yeah, I'll probably hold onto my copies for a while, then. I thought they were huge in Sweden... ;]

Michael Servetus, Sunday, 22 November 2009 23:23 (fourteen years ago) link

I spotted a Johnny Cash box in a local record shop today at £8. It caught my eye because I remember my Dad buying it in the 70s. It was a mail order Readers Digest thing with 6 vinyl album entitled things like "Johnny in Love" and "Johnny in Jail".

I've found a couple of copies online ranging from £14 with no bids on eBay to £44 on Virgin Shops to $72 on Musicstack.

Here's the eBay listing: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/JOHNNY-CASH-'THE-BEST-OF'-READERS-DIGEST-6-x-LP-BOX-SET_W0QQitemZ370296578109QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxq20091126?IMSfp=TL091126203009r31676#ht_1081wt_993

Can anyone give me a rough idea what it might actually be worth?

I think my Dad also has an Elvis one from the same source & time but he loaned it out and some fucker scratched it to bits.

my guess is almost nothing, honestly.

figuratively, but in a very real way (amateurist), Wednesday, 2 December 2009 04:09 (fourteen years ago) link

not sure where else to put this, but saw a lamonte young dvd and not sure what else with it, cd? record? box something or other? all sort of a glowing blue color at amoeba for $1000. crazytown.

jaxon, Wednesday, 2 December 2009 05:37 (fourteen years ago) link

was it literally glowing? like a pulsating blue flame? that would explain the $1,000.

figuratively, but in a very real way (amateurist), Wednesday, 2 December 2009 07:28 (fourteen years ago) link

my guess is almost nothing, honestly.

Thanks amateurist, that's what I figured given that there's one on eBay for £14 with seemingly no interest whatsoever, I just wondered why there are other sites trying to punt it for 4 or 5 times that amount. I suppose they're working on the 'one born every minute' theory.

I think I'll pick it up anyway as it's in great condition and it's 60 or thereabouts Johnny Cash songs on nice shiny vinyl for £8.

nearly 50 in vagina years (onimo), Wednesday, 2 December 2009 10:41 (fourteen years ago) link

The ebay one wants to sell it *now* (ish)

The Virginshops/Musicstack are in no hurry.

behind the counter at SF amoeba? the price must've come DOWN from $1300!

69, Wednesday, 2 December 2009 19:30 (fourteen years ago) link

two weeks pass...

is it possible you can get 40 dollars for an original restless copy of telepathic surgery? that's the only price i can find on the internet. or is that way inflated? i think i'll sell it for 20. jeez, even that seems high. it's only the flaming lips for pete's sake.

scott seward, Thursday, 17 December 2009 16:51 (fourteen years ago) link

people LOVE the flaming lips but i think it's more of an ebay thing.. usually i'd price it around 25 for it to sell in the shoppe.

ian, Thursday, 17 December 2009 18:10 (fourteen years ago) link

hmmm

XTC "Acoustical Oranges And Lemons" double 7" on the Vigotone label, looks mint. Nothing on eBay, Discogs has one for $65 and one for $100. gonna eBay it, should I start it at 10 or 20 or 50? I paid almost nothing.

and as a side note, I know Discogs prices are high, but can anyone estimate how much higher (as a percentage) than they would sell for the real world?

sleeve, Wednesday, 30 December 2009 23:55 (fourteen years ago) link

put it up for 19.95 and see what happens. you might get lucky.

newport folk festival 1965 album on vanguard. decent copy. vg+ ian?

sang froid, you need a copy?

can't find a price anywhere. paul butterfield, son house, koerner and glover. lol no dylan. scary mel lyman's solo harmonica rock of ages. (mel trying to heal the dylan wound after the festival had ended. thanks, creepy.)

scott seward, Monday, 8 February 2010 17:47 (fourteen years ago) link

not that i think its worth a ton or anything. just weird that i can't find a copy for sale online. i'm not always the best searcher though.

scott seward, Monday, 8 February 2010 17:48 (fourteen years ago) link

finally got a copy of the singer-songwriter project! woo hoo! needed that one. it's not like you need to own a lot to be a richard farina completist, but this was definitely on my want-list. (still don't have the eric von schmidt thing, but i'll get one eventually.)

scott seward, Monday, 8 February 2010 17:53 (fourteen years ago) link

thanks, but it's not really calling my name today. i have that singer-songwriter project one, too!

Thus Sang Freud, Monday, 8 February 2010 18:03 (fourteen years ago) link

Yeah, those Newport recordings are a little too staid for me most of the time.

However, the Farina/Schmidt LP is on my want list as well! We've had copies @ the shop before but they always end up on ebay.

the first side of the 65 newport thing is really good. butterfield band/lilly brothers/son house/some african dance troupe/eric von schmidt with mel lyman and geoff and maria muldaur. (a.k.a. maria d'amato)

scott seward, Monday, 8 February 2010 20:08 (fourteen years ago) link

sealed original don cherry/latif khan music/sangam with just a little shrink damage -- it's a great record, and i have the reissue. unsealed copy went for $75 or $80 a couple years ago, but that was before the reissue...

watch ebay for a week or two and you could probably get one for 10 bucks. they probably sell 20 a week. (i made that last part up.)

scott seward, Wednesday, 17 February 2010 04:20 (fourteen years ago) link

you could get the 7 inch on ebay for, like, 5 bucks or less too.

scott seward, Wednesday, 17 February 2010 04:22 (fourteen years ago) link

skott you should really check out my guys at YESTERDAY'S NEWS in Riverside, RI sometime. crazy dude who runs an antique store but also has tons of record, most of which are $1. and he gives you bulk discounts on top of that. hit or miss, but if you get to him at the right time there are lots of gems. i bought a bunch of 'fake latin' records. cha cha, mambo stuff. mancini goes latin.

i guess i'd just rather listen to canned heat? (ian), Monday, 29 July 2013 17:19 (ten years ago) link

i need to go to lots of places but i never have time to go anywhere. and i always have too much to handle for little old me. but i like going places in theory.

private press LP

"You Can't Have Your Future Till Tomorrow"

by

Tina Christine and Questor

from my friend:

"It's not on a label but produced by Sound City Studio in Shreveport, Louisiana. It's autographed by Tina and is a 1970s female vocal/soft rock album with some grooves and covers and sample-able moments on keys. There is no discogs page, or popsike or anything. Only hits online are asking $150 but no other info. I kno ppl collect shit like this and get boned up on private press stuff. Any ideas? "
