The pyro was cool at least.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 15 November 2009 05:16 (fourteen years ago) link

I think they try to whip the crowd up into a frenzy

which is also what the inaudible DJ in the band does

i think i'm the only one in america who found that all hilarious

It's possible.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 15 November 2009 05:32 (fourteen years ago) link

what the fuck was that

peed on tree (k3vin k.), Sunday, 15 November 2009 05:36 (fourteen years ago) link

spent a lot of time trying to figure out what the DJ was doing. Finally decided he was using pionner DVD video decks and was "mixing" the video that appeared on the flat screen in front of him.

Def. one of the worst episodes in recent history. Only the two prerecorded parts were decent, the digital short and the throwing a party film.

dan selzer, Sunday, 15 November 2009 06:25 (fourteen years ago) link

The Kristen-Wiig-as-awkward-lesbian-reporter sketches often grow funnier as they go along, but that's the first one they've done in a long long time. Outside of that and the party film, I was bored all night.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 15 November 2009 06:34 (fourteen years ago) link

I'm annoyed that this is the one thread I can't search for my name in, to find out where I last posted/left off.

Of course if I do that, I miss posts like:

Which totally isn't fair, btw. Not the post, just the situation. Everyone should have an equal chance to make everyone else uncomfortable.

Unless of course you we're talking about me. Which is highly possible.

cracked me up that the first thing I saw when I turned on SNL last night was basically the image at the top of this thread: least funny current SNL castmember

some dude, Sunday, 15 November 2009 17:42 (fourteen years ago) link

What a bad episode. Especially in comparison to last week's.

The Kristen Wiig problem, in a nutshell, is that she's in too many sketches (some might say I could stop right there...) where she isn't part of an ensemble. Her two big sketches last night were essentially monologues, where all of the other actors were essentially props. I wouldn't even say that they were straight men. They almost literally had nothing to do.

Also! Given how little some cast members had to do in this week's episode (Will Forte, the completely absent Keenan Thompson), it's gotta get the dander up that fucking Darrell Hammond can't stay fucking gone. Jesus Christ, dude.

Okay, seriously? A farting Grace Kelly sketch?

January Jones was a pretty WTF host choice, I mean Jon Hamm was kinda pushing it in terms of the usual minimum of fame for a host but he was pretty funny and at least he's the star of that show

Farting Grace Kelly was pretty funny, but only because Sudekis pulled out a pretty decent outraged Jimmy Stewart.

Btw let's keep SBing people for not agreeing with their taste. ILX should be down to Ned by himself within a week.

Okay ppl, farting Grace Kelly was not the WORST SKETCH EVER to appear on SNL. That honor would go to this sketch, which caused my family to turn off the television and not see SNL again for 2 years:

sudekis is the mvp on snl right now, imo.

mizzell, Monday, 16 November 2009 16:45 (fourteen years ago) link

this was horrible, but yeah as dan's link suggests, it didn't reach 1980 levels of torpidity.

da croupier, Monday, 16 November 2009 16:48 (fourteen years ago) link

january jones may be the worst host i've seen since Bill Pullman, though.

da croupier, Monday, 16 November 2009 16:48 (fourteen years ago) link

I still prefer Hader but Sudeikis is definitely kind of the utility player that holds the ensemble together, to whatever extent it is holding together (xpost)

some dude, Monday, 16 November 2009 16:49 (fourteen years ago) link

I do have to commend them for managing to put the two musical guests I would least like to ever see on back-to-back episodes.

Dan and Anthony OTM,

Calling this the "worst episode ever" is some myopic blogger shit. There's a reason that a lot of those early 80s episodes are buried in the desert with all those ET Atari games.

Season 5 is about to come out on DVD this xmas. I wonder if they're even gonna bother putting out Season 6 or just jump to the Dana Carvey era.

freek-a-leekanomics (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 16 November 2009 16:55 (fourteen years ago) link

In fairness most of today's bloggers weren't alive in the early 80s.

freek-a-leekanomics (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 16 November 2009 16:58 (fourteen years ago) link

asserting your knowledge of the snl backcatalog is pretty sad imo, like worse then ILM sad.

bnw, Monday, 16 November 2009 17:04 (fourteen years ago) link

lol did you really just resort to the "knowing stuff is sad" argument

a Barbie-like nub where he provates should be (HI DERE), Monday, 16 November 2009 17:18 (fourteen years ago) link

all it means is you watched a lot of comedy central

da croupier, Monday, 16 November 2009 17:19 (fourteen years ago) link

yes, there's nothing sad about watching a lot of comedy central

congratulations (n/a), Monday, 16 November 2009 17:21 (fourteen years ago) link

it's certainly not sadder than ilm

and while we're outing ourselves as total saddoes for having watched more than our share of sketch comedy, 1980 had some pretty amazing musical guests
