y'know I was thinking during the sketch that they've done probably a dozen different variations on that kind of 'tense family dinner' sketch with a dozen different casts over the years but they're pretty much always really funny to me, then they broke out a wacky singing routine which feels like a much more recent vintage SNL cliche and it kinda ruined it for me.

also ugh @ the announcement that Blake Lively is hosting soon, which should be at least Megan Fox bad, if not January Jones bad. lots of funny women exist in show business, why can't any of them host SNL? or even be cast members, Wiig aside? I'm really quickly starting to hate Jenny Slate.

Jenny and Nasim are both duds (on SNL anyway). Still not really into Abby Elliott either.

Abby did a fantastic Sarah McLachlan a few weeks ago though, plus she is super cuet.

Who was the translator in the opening sketch? She was awesome.

That was Nasim.

I do miss Casey Wilson, thought she had more potential than Elliott tbh.

it must be tough for Michaela who had a bit of traction and who had a recurring role as Hoda Kotb to see one of the other new girls take that role so effortlessly. Not that it was a bravura performance or anything, playing the straight man for Kristen' s Kathie Lee...

joseph gordon-leavitt is almost as much of an annoying ham as justin timberlake

kinda tired of "bill hader as host of a show" sketches but wiig kinda killed this "secret word" sketch

haha shit this is the best digital short in forever

to be honest i'm pretty tired of "wacky game show" as an SNL trope in general, it's right up there with "uncomfortable dinner party with one normal couple and one CRAZY couple" and "fake talk show" as played-out sketch boilerplates

this show is at the point where if someone was like "andy samberg is gonna write a show about fucking a black, male reba mcentire" i would be like "alright sure why not" & the sketch ended up being amazing - one of the first time samberg ever exceeded my expectations

who is you person that gets haughty about people not knowing by heart the faces of two cast members who've only been on the show for 7 episodes!?

i guess i should go outside and play in the wilderness, though, that would definitely help me memorize the faces of television personalities, for sure.

gotta admit that reba digital short had me rolling. saw the JGL monologue clip, gotta give it to him for sheer effort

what really put that over the top for me was that Kenan's Reba impression was kinda spot-on. i didn't even see the 'twist' coming since the Lonely Island album has E-40 playing Carlos Santana on a track, I thought it was just gonna be like that.

JGL's voice sounded weird all night to me, it occurred to me that the only grown up roles I've seen him in (Brick and The Lookout) was doing these mannered monotone voices and even when he wasn't doing some character on SNL I was like wait is that what he actually sounds like or what?

he sorta dresses like a middle aged dude in sketches where he plays himself or someone like himself, but yeah i had him at around 35. damn
