""deep" is the new "minimal" but whatevs, that Carnage mix is tiiight

-- The Macallan 18 Year"

it is tight. but some of us have been representing deep dance music for years. i have shirts i made back in 02 (recipients of them include Titonton Duvante, Norm Talley, etc) that say "keep it deep" on them. and of course deep music has been around for a lot longer than that. don't believe this new "deep house" hype anymore than you should have believed the "minimal" hype, which was not at all.

pipecock, Tuesday, 26 February 2008 01:18 (sixteen years ago) link

Lerosa also has one of those "keep it deep" shirts, i had to dig up one that had not yet been worn by me for him....

pipecock, Tuesday, 26 February 2008 01:23 (sixteen years ago) link

Remember when Deep House meant disco? Those were the days!

dan selzer, Tuesday, 26 February 2008 03:52 (sixteen years ago) link

it still does! at least when i am playing the records ;)

deep house can cover many sounds from garage to chicago trax to sample based detroit shit etc etc. it has to be soulful though, you can't fake that.

pipecock, Tuesday, 26 February 2008 04:17 (sixteen years ago) link

I heard a rumour some people were faking the soul. And successfully too.

Hey everyone, I have a bunch of mixes available on podcast <a href="http://feeds.feedburner.com/the21gunsalute"; target="_blank">here</a>.

A pretty mellow one is <a href="http://peroxidecomics.com/podcasts/Slow%20Down%201.mp3";> target="_blank">this mix called "Slow Down,"</a> which has Candi Staton, Patrick Cowley, Liz Torres and Touch Down.

There's also a more uptempo, poppy mix <a href="http://peroxidecomics.com/podcasts/Metal%20On%20Metal.mp3";> targvet="_blank">called "Metal on Metal"</a>

I also maintain a blog with mixes, vinyl burns and mp3s here:

did you come up with the slogan "keep it deep" yourself? who knew that keep rhymed with deep! tho perhaps black artists have been rhyming keep with deep since the dawn of time.

in fact i invented both the words "keep" and "deep", though i can't take credit for "it".

many black artists could have been using that phrase 2 years ago, your ass wouldn't know shit about it.

pipecock, Wednesday, 27 February 2008 00:30 (sixteen years ago) link

i like that you're going to try to target me now because you jump on yet another nonsense bandwagon. that shit would be funny if it wasnt so stupid.

pipecock, Wednesday, 27 February 2008 00:33 (sixteen years ago) link

how do you feel about "keep it deep" being used in a swimming pool context?

Ronan, Wednesday, 27 February 2008 00:34 (sixteen years ago) link

"how do you feel about "keep it deep" being used in a swimming pool context?

that was actually another one of the t-shirt designs i had to go with the one we made that had barry white's picture on it.
