Assuming the technology hasn't progressed backwards since I was sending them (three years ago? four? who counts anymore?), yes. Definitely.

Using my old P&J link from last year's ballot, I can get to the 2009 ballot page, but the only thing I need (assuming I can't get a ballot this year) would be a voter ID. I noticed that my 2007 and 2008 ID's are different. Wondering if I use my 2008 voter ID # will the ballot go through?

Doubtful. The rolls change every year.

When you email them about this stuff they usually add you on provided you can reasonbly qualify yourself as a rock critic (and if you've voted before recently you should be eligible to vote again for the most part, I think).

Weird that you don't even get to a page where you can doublecheck your votes after you press submit, before you absolutely confirm your ballot (which was always the way the site worked in the past, at least a few years ago.)

Besides, as everyone's noting on Facebook, not listing the singles in order on your ballot (I don't vote for albums, so don't know if it's the same there), am I reading it correctly that they don't have the mixed compilation of voter comments anymore? Maybe they'll be posted later. I'll hold off further comment until that's clear.

The order glitch wasn't intentional, and is already being fixed.

I will also apologize for the "we" in my Tabulation Notes making it seem like the Voice made up Winey's term "GAPDY". I wasn't thinking of myself as part of the Voice's "we" as I was writing, but of course that's how it reads. I'm trying to get them to edit this in the online version, at least.

If the statement is referring strictly to critics, it's still off. The album was reviewed by several outlets, including Pitchfork and (cough) AllMusic.

that and just, journalistic criticism is so beaten down that there's no drama or conflict to its consensus-finding process. or no conflict about the records themselves. like, i like courtney barnett, but i feel there was hardly anything at stake as to whether or not her or hop along did better 'in the polls'.

glad to see the roundtable with xgau etc p&j, certainly a sign of goodwill as well.

and now we have a management who might not be terrible to the music section. but i completely trained myself out of caring about the voice through the very lean years, so i really haven't been paying attention to anything with it, tho i'm a bit optimistic for a change.

I like all of those albums - regardless of whether they deserved the top spot, they're all touched with greatness and I'd say most of them are great. Even "Tennessee" is unimpeachable IMHO, a towering single on Arrest Development's fine debut, even though parts of the album gets too on the nose for my taste.

FWIW, I understand certain albums aren't heard about often except by those who were there at the time, but I've never bought into that as a failing of the work itself. It may be a reflection of evolving trends in the culture, and I get how that's a big part of the discourse surrounding pop music, but a great album is still a great album no matter how overlooked it may have become.

Ragged Glory is definitely one of Neil's true classics, Freedom was the comeback but Ragged Glory had this primal facemelting guitar sound and just a load of great tunes. it was actually the first Neil Young record i ever heard and loved it immediately.

Chuck Klosterman wrote an article about how future generations would balk at seeing the Tune-Yards album listed at number 1 in this poll. That prophesied day has now arrived.

Per Ragged Glory, here's 1990 (as hell, with a lot of strong stuff, which may also incl. ones that seem a bit startling in the nether regions, but that's good in principle, just going for personal faves dammit, never mind the prevailing winds)

I was about 15 in 1990 and remember Ragged Glory as a Big Deal in the boomer press: Freedom as the solid comeback, this the culmination.

I was 14 and in my transitionary period between Def Leppard and Nirvana. Looking at that list, I only remember listening to lots of Public Enemy, Living Colour, LL Cool J, ATCQ, Digital Underground and Faith No More.
