i dunno i kinda thought 1973 colonel sanders NASA job applicant potato chip regurgitator thief collecting his hemorrhoid donut on the way out the door skit was pretty fantastic and unless i'm overlooking something pretty obvious maybe even the best job interview oriented SNL skit since the chris parnell/christopher walken "we don't hire dirty centaurs" classic

They're playing at the united center in Chicago - I saw the big fancy ad recently- and I just had no idea they were that sort of band. I worked in a record store abt 10 yrs ago and I remember thinking they were blah, sort of like coldplay. And now they're huge? Like coldplay? I didn't see that coming.

that was the 3rd "What Up With That" sketch in the space of 7 episodes. between that and the "A Very Gilly Christmas" primetime special it feels like we're entering a new Mary Katherine Gallagher era of the same sketches airing over and over with barely any variation from week to week.

Someone at SNL is kind of websmart, and told Lorne that the kids are loving "What Up With That." Naturally, Lorne thinks he's struck oil and will mine every last drop.

the first time it felt giddy and unexpected and fun, but it's already starting to feel a little perfunctory as of last night. can't wait for the 80-minute movie version.

Nah, as Amanda said, they're headlining the United Center in Chicago. Silversun Pickups are opening. And yeah, I too was caught off-guard by that development.

hmm yeah looks like U2 played there in '05. i'm sure the ticket sales were very different, but still, weird.

It really doesn't make any sense - have they sold any albums in the US at all? Is this just like, "throw them in an arena and maybe people will think they're worth seeing?"

they've got 2 gold albums in the U.S. now and the latest one is doing well enough that it should go gold and possibly platinum soon enough. but yeah, those are pretty low numbers to be playing a venue that big. maybe in big cities with especially international populations they can depend on bands that are bigger in Europe or otherwise abroad to sell more tickets than their U.S. sales would indicate?

I was just watching some of this on Netflix actually (Season 5 I think)..

when Muse played NYC on that 'black holes & revelations' tour - whichever that was - they sold out madison square garden and people were losing their shit over them (i was reviewing). i know nyc pulls people from a lot of markets but, yeah, they're pretty big.

When Muse played Lollapalooza a few years back they drew a HUGE crowd opposite, I believe, Interpol. They headlined the second night and I was blown away by the crowd.

They must be street teaming high schools pretty heavy or some shit. Also, probably some Hot Topic push.

I'm just guessing.
