how essential is the weekdays/weekend convention as far as enjoying life is concerned?

oh lara I know, the work part is still awful though, it's the bank for christ's sake. the only thing that spurs me on is the knowledge that I don't have to do it for a living. That and the odd off the wall nutcase customer.

*gasp*

Are you in a branch?

*shudders*

Lara (Lara), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 21:24 (twenty years ago) link

yeah the local one!

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 21:25 (twenty years ago) link

I have heard tell that everybody is, in fact, working solely for the weekend.

Chris P (Chris P), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 21:28 (twenty years ago) link

I'd like to clarify. I don't go out for a drink every night of the week, but if we've had a particularly gruelling day at the paper, it's nice to go for a pint or two at our local pub.
On occasion, the pint or two does become more of a pint or eight, but that's generally on Thursdays. I don't work Fridays.
And yes, everybody is working for the weekend.

Us or them? And where's local?

I think I would kill someone (myself) if I worked in a branch. May the Lord bless your patience.

Ha! I'll mail you in the morning. Boredom over summer months sorted (for me).

Lara (Lara), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 21:36 (twenty years ago) link

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 21:37 (twenty years ago) link

not in my whole life, just on [bank name] internal mail, in my whole life i have at least 6 or 7.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 21:38 (twenty years ago) link

You do not want more than one friend at the firm. With time comes enlightenment.

My weekend starts everytime a freelance gig runs out..I don't even own an alarm clock!

I don't believe nobody has called R. Kelly to thread yet.

In principle, hedonism is highly attractive. In practice a few quiet days between sessions is essential, at least for me.

I really hate it when folk say "How was your weekend?" as if I live for weekends, like they do. If I want to do something I do it. I can't wait for the weekend because life is too short. I think it is rude to ask people about their weekends and the next time someone asks me I will give them graphic, blow-by-blow boring account of it.

kayT (kaytee), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 06:18 (twenty years ago) link

I actually used to hate weekends because the shops I wanted to go to were closed and the clubs I wanted to go to were full.

But now I understand. ANd it's terrible, I try to pack as much as humanly possible into those precious 48 hours, so that I end up more tired on Monday morning than I was on Friday night. Wah! And it starts the cycle all over again.

And speaking of work, I should really do some today...

Weekends are so very crucial for my existence. Spending my w/e's with my nearest & dearest is the only thing that gets me thru the week. I dont really mind my work, but it is not exactly exhillerating. I love spending time at the w/e's not having to do anything if I don't want to. I love the freedom aspect of it.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 07:54 (twenty years ago) link

fourteen years pass...

I vastly prefer weekdays. Weekends are too chaotic, not relaxing, less structured.

This distinction is really an idea of industrial revolution/capitalism isn't it? Yes the bible has something to say about the days of the week but still.

29 facepalms, Monday, 1 January 2018 23:25 (six years ago) link

Lol no why would you even think that

El Tomboto, Monday, 1 January 2018 23:29 (six years ago) link

I mean the “industrial revolution/capitalism” creature has no use whatsoever for the concept of weekends and holidays or even nighttime

El Tomboto, Monday, 1 January 2018 23:30 (six years ago) link

The difference between weekdays and weekends is you go to work during the week. The working week. I don't think it's a mind blowing concept. Days, months, years are all natural phonmema, but the week is an entirely human construct. And it only takes a week of not going to work to be unsure what say it is. That' should be clearer today than most days.

I'm looking forward to being able to relax by going back to work today. I have a very high octane 3-year-old.
