The Loft Volume One (Nuphonic) has a wonderful 11 minute mix of Is It All Over My Face (and everything else on the comp is great too). The Loft Vol II has Go Bang #5 (and the comp is even better than Vol 1). Disco Not Disco Vol II has a long Walter Gibbons mix of Let's Go Swimming.

Thanks for the info, I didn't realise there was a part 2 but I'm off to find a copy now.

nuphonic has indeed gone under.

this thread is nearly two months old. another example of ilm drifting apart from its parent/host?

(ha ha, don't mind me, it's just that i didn't realize until tonite that the article was almost a year old and almost forgotten already. plus i'm drunk and depressed.)

did ppl listen to the version on beats in space this week

t_g, Saturday, 1 November 2008 00:45 (fifteen years ago) link

That piano breakdown at 2:25 deserves to be sampled a la "More More More" in "Steal My Sunshine". It could carry an entire song.

ILX MOD (musically), Saturday, 1 November 2008 00:48 (fifteen years ago) link

LOVE this record so much

The whole beats in space broadcast is highly recommended for the amount of alternate and unreleased versions played. Like the 7" promo version of "Pop Your Funk" that I've wanted to hear since reading about in the sleevenotes to "World of"

I am using your worlds, Saturday, 1 November 2008 00:50 (fifteen years ago) link

that youtube version is the garbage 8 min. one.

you want this

the version is what ppl shld listen to

t_g, Saturday, 1 November 2008 00:55 (fifteen years ago) link

I've listened to so much Arthur Russell since I started this thread 6 years ago but I still adore this song. And it's the version on the Disco not disco cd I love most.

On a seperate note, I can't believe, how many of my old threads (2002) have been re-hashed tonight!

Sven Hassel Schmuck, Saturday, 1 November 2008 00:58 (fifteen years ago) link

whatever the 12:40 version is, that's the one for me. lotsa chickachicka David Byrne guitar, blowout diva vocals, and cello cello cello.

sleeve, Saturday, 1 November 2008 01:01 (fifteen years ago) link

that's the version

I've only just heard this track - the thirteen minute demo version - it's incredible! It's been on repeat for the last two hours!

Someone I know mentioned that there is an interesting story about this song (being specific: the demo I think) and I was wondering if anybody either knew it or knows of an arthur russell fanpage that could help?

the piano part that starts ar like 3:44 on the A side

Treeship, Thursday, 24 August 2017 19:48 (six years ago) link

I think it's one of my favorite moments in music, the whole thing dropping into a minor key (i think -- idk music theory) and the vocals taking on a new power

Treeship, Thursday, 24 August 2017 19:50 (six years ago) link

think pachabel's canon

brimstead, Friday, 25 August 2017 00:01 (six years ago) link

i was listening to this earlier which is basically an uncredited homage to "kiss me again". from '98 and released on nuphonic (despite what youtube link claims)

still magnificent.

Treeship, Sunday, 15 October 2017 02:50 (six years ago) link

How many goddamn versions of this song are there and how can you tell them apart?

Mr. Snrub, Sunday, 15 October 2017 14:09 (six years ago) link

Version Stirmonster posted is my fave as well. Blissful.

Does anyone have a playlist of similar long, "artsy" or experimental disco tracks from the 70s? Did Arthur Russell make more of these?

Treeship, Sunday, 15 October 2017 21:54 (six years ago) link

How much Arthur have you heard? All the tips upthread are still worth checking out.

Choco Blavatsky (seandalai), Sunday, 15 October 2017 22:05 (six years ago) link

"Is It All Over My Face"/"Go Bang"/"Tell You (Today)" are I guess the other canonical disco tracks. This is my favourite though:
