Mordy, Thursday, 28 January 2010 03:10 (fourteen years ago) link

hey why isn't he doing that thing of picking out a regular american person from the gallery and telling his/her regular american inspirational story? did i miss that?

kicker conspiracy (b. favre ha ha) (daria-g), Thursday, 28 January 2010 03:10 (fourteen years ago) link

he's following the lead of john f kennedy and ronald reagan

Since the day I took office, all I keep hearing is that the next Joanna Newsom album is going to be awesome. We have made substantial investments in indie music but frankly I can't get into all the elf stuff. We have prohibited torture. I am hereby issuing an executive order prohibiting the release of Have One On Me.

I am dying here, and if this was real Obama would be the greatest president of all time.

man i hope he doesn't do that at all that part is always so gross

xpost to daria

Other than "projecting" aggression, I don't know how this address will motivate the Senate. It's a damn pep rally cuz it's an election year.

Blue Fucks Like Ben Nelson (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 28 January 2010 03:11 (fourteen years ago) link

Reagan started the Important American section of the SOTU btw.

Blue Fucks Like Ben Nelson (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 28 January 2010 03:11 (fourteen years ago) link

Best state of the union address during my lifetime ever

Are you 8 years old?

Daniel, Esq., Thursday, 28 January 2010 03:12 (fourteen years ago) link

Daniel, Esq., Thursday, 28 January 2010 03:12 (fourteen years ago) link

Abroad, America’s greatest source of strength has always been our ideals. The same is true at home. We find unity in our incredible diversity, drawing on the promise enshrined in our Constitution: the notion that we are all created equal, that no matter who you are or what you look like, if you abide by the law you should be protected by it; that if you adhere to our common values you should be treated no different than anyone else. You don't have to listen to Animal Collective if you don't want to.

(Daniel, Lorax was riffing on the Newsome thread)

Tonight [Mark R. Levin]
I have watched many, many State of the Union speeches. This is the most partisan, least presidential of them all. His rhetoric, his glances at the GOP side, and his almost mocking tone at times — not to mention his over-the-top dissembling about the deficit, among other things — will not, I predict, improve his position with the public. Nor should it.

Didn't turn this on, but I am shocked that a speech has you cultists creaming your jeans again.

You're in a better place, Mr Zinn.

"As president I will outlaw gays so that we can repeal Don't Ask Don't Tell."

Blue Fucks Like Ben Nelson (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 28 January 2010 03:14 (fourteen years ago) link

OHHHHHHHHH.

My bad.

Daniel, Esq., Thursday, 28 January 2010 03:14 (fourteen years ago) link

I am looking forward to Obama renouncing the zero-sum politics of GAPDY voting.

C-L, Thursday, 28 January 2010 03:14 (fourteen years ago) link

man how can don't ask don't tell still exist

horseshoe, Thursday, 28 January 2010 03:14 (fourteen years ago) link

Are people really digging this speech?

Mordy, Thursday, 28 January 2010 03:15 (fourteen years ago) link

We are going to crack down on violations of equal pay laws – so that women get equal pay for an equal day’s work.

yyyyyup...there's a couple million of us old fogey feminist types who just got out our checkbooks, I have to say

I posted that! xp

Mordy, Thursday, 28 January 2010 03:16 (fourteen years ago) link

we finally changed our laws to prohibit crimes inspired by hate. but those inspired by deplorable transparent greed? we're institutionalizing those further.

Obama is in such serious trouble

with Mark Levin?

Blue Fucks Like Ben Nelson (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 28 January 2010 03:16 (fourteen years ago) link

nah, mainly just watching for a few choice lulz. The SCOTUS part was priceless, worth the time invested watching it for sure. I'm not shaking with anger over the spending freeze because it was announced the other day. It's not news.

CATBEAST!! (Z S), Thursday, 28 January 2010 03:16 (fourteen years ago) link

i hate political speeches tbh! overall i wonder if people there who obama actually has to depend on, to get these things done, are appreciative or not, because there is something of a lecturing mocking thing going on, isn't there?

kicker conspiracy (b. favre ha ha) (daria-g), Thursday, 28 January 2010 03:16 (fourteen years ago) link

Yeah most of our favorite stuff has been like reaction shots and LOLs, I think.

John should write every SOTU, perhaps then Animal Collective will take their rightful place in the axis of evil.

Do you think those chairs Biden + Pelosi are sitting in are comfortable?

Mordy, Thursday, 28 January 2010 03:18 (fourteen years ago) link

where's "you lie!" what's his name?

Daniel, Esq., Thursday, 28 January 2010 03:18 (fourteen years ago) link

But remember this – I never suggested that change would be easy, or that I can do it alone. Democracy in a nation of three hundred million people can be noisy and messy and complicated. And it gets hard to hear yourself think over the God-damned three millionth remix of "Pants on the Ground" or "Combination Pizza Hut and Taco Bell." Seriously, enough.

Lee Dorrian Gray (J0hn D.), Thursday, 28 January 2010 03:19 (fourteen years ago) link

OK, he's drifting. Time to get a smoke.

Blue Fucks Like Ben Nelson (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 28 January 2010 03:19 (fourteen years ago) link

I am waiting for the animated gifs.

“We are strong. We are resilient. We are American.”

Does ANYONE say this except for John Cougar Mellencamp?

CATBEAST!! (Z S), Thursday, 28 January 2010 03:19 (fourteen years ago) link

i guess he's kind of been doing the regular American thing by quoting people's letters in this free indirect discourse-y way

horseshoe, Thursday, 28 January 2010 03:19 (fourteen years ago) link

Is there a trapdoor button Pelosi can push?

Blue Fucks Like Ben Nelson (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 28 January 2010 03:19 (fourteen years ago) link

Aww, possibly fictional 8 year old boy donating his allowance, you are the best.

C-L, Thursday, 28 January 2010 03:20 (fourteen years ago) link

When he says USA he sounds like Bush.

Mordy, Thursday, 28 January 2010 03:20 (fourteen years ago) link

We are strong. We are resilient. We are American. We are all -- all of us, seated here tonight and watching by television -- going to see the release of another My Bloody Valentine album. That's going to be awesome.

I like Obama yelling at Wall Street, the Senate, both parties etc..
