HOW COULD YOU NOT LIKE THE JULIET?

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 12:35 (nineteen years ago) link

I am listening to it now, CAPS man.

cozen (Cozen), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 12:36 (nineteen years ago) link

Coldplay, "Talk (Jacques Lu Cont Is Going To Turn This Rubbish Song Back Into Kraftwerk mix)"

'haitch' (haitch), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 12:36 (nineteen years ago) link

cozen can i hear your 'since yesterday'??

Sven Bastard (blueski), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 12:37 (nineteen years ago) link

alba: good god I take back what I said and kneel down in catatonic supplication before my new god, mr. jacques. le. cont.

stevem: only if jlc rmxs it.

cozen (Cozen), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 12:39 (nineteen years ago) link

What the hell is Amy Phillips talking about in her review of the "Mr Brightside" remix? DEFINITELY better than the original, there's no question in my mind. Also I'm pretty sure it has come out on vinyl and is thus not an "iTunes exclusive".

i am nervous (cochere), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 14:28 (nineteen years ago) link

1. Silver Screen Shower Scene
2. Avalon
3. What You Waiting For
4. Hey You What's That Sound
5. Its My Life

For me, anyway. The Killers and Britney ones are good but the Starsailor mix is ruined for me by the vocals.

The Bloc Party remix is Paul Epworth, isn't it?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 14:36 (nineteen years ago) link

Matt, re: 2 -5: get out of my head ;-).

BARMS, Tuesday, 15 March 2005 14:43 (nineteen years ago) link

I wasn't including original tracks by LRD!

But if I was, I'd have Jacques Your Body/Sometimes in a top 10.

Also still want to know what the track he opened with in Dublin was, it had a huge Vitalicesque snare drum and a riff that was like something from an Abba song (and may have been) looping over and over, sounded very decadent.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 17:12 (nineteen years ago) link

No, Amy Phillips is right. The worst part is the "touching his chest" line, which in the original introduces a heavier feel and a darker harmonic tone, but which JLC doesn't do anything with and thus it just feels sorta weightless.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 17:23 (nineteen years ago) link

I mean, I can understand why someone might like the remix, anyway, but really, how does it improve the original?

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 17:24 (nineteen years ago) link

that "ja-ja-ja-ja-ja-ja-ja-ja-ja-ja-ja-ja-ja-ja-ja" bit off the Fabric mix is one of my favourite things he's done haha

Sven Bastard (blueski), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 17:30 (nineteen years ago) link

Jaymc (and amy) otm, it's really not much better than the original in my mind, although it offers hints of what might have been...

deej., Tuesday, 15 March 2005 17:32 (nineteen years ago) link

I prefer the Lindbergh Palace remix actually...

JoB (JoB), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 17:48 (nineteen years ago) link

What is this I hear about a paper faces remix to "Ready 2 Wear" by Felix??? The fact that this track exists and I havent heard it yet is killing me on the inside. Someone here has to be on slsk so I can dl this gem.

modernaire, Friday, 18 March 2005 08:17 (nineteen years ago) link

Shouldn't exactly be difficult to find. It's on the b side of the 12 inch.

martin turenne, Tuesday, 12 April 2005 18:01 (nineteen years ago) link

Both Jacques and Tim have this knack of making the source material in this case much better than it is. :-)

What has he been up to lately? Anyone know?

The Brainwasher (Twilight), Sunday, 8 May 2005 03:23 (nineteen years ago) link

I love the Paper Faces mixes of "Filthy Gorgeous" and "Ready 2 Wear" if it helps at all, but they're a bit different to his JLC/TWD approach.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Sunday, 8 May 2005 07:51 (nineteen years ago) link

The Paper Faces mix of "Mary" is nice too.

I am going to see Jacques on Friday, hooray!

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 8 May 2005 11:02 (nineteen years ago) link

Did Missy Elliott sample Les Rythmes Digitales on her new single and if not, where does that "Music makes you lose control" sample come from originally?

JoB (JoB), Sunday, 8 May 2005 11:55 (nineteen years ago) link

What has he been up to lately? Anyone know?

He did a lot of work on the new album by Juliet called Random Order.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Sunday, 8 May 2005 14:49 (nineteen years ago) link

where does that "Music makes you lose control" sample come from originally?

i'm not sure but it also features on the 1990 remixed version of 'Sucker DJ' by Dimples D if not the original of that so my guess is that it comes from a late 70s funk/disco/early rap band.

$V£N! (blueski), Sunday, 8 May 2005 19:00 (nineteen years ago) link

Apparently there is a song called "Music Makes You Lose Control" by Twin Amp on vol. 8 of the 2 Many DJ's mix CD series. Could anyone verify wether this is indeed it?

JoB (JoB), Sunday, 8 May 2005 21:01 (nineteen years ago) link

i thought I read somewhere that new order were going to have him remix stuff from the new album because they liked his mix of the gwen stefani song so much. what happened with that?

kyle (akmonday), Sunday, 8 May 2005 21:13 (nineteen years ago) link

x-post, I've found out that it is not. Kyle, you are aware of SP's production jobs on the NO album? One of them ("Jetstream") is the new single, remixed by Tom Neville and Richard X.

JoB (JoB), Sunday, 8 May 2005 21:24 (nineteen years ago) link

new order were going to have him remix stuff from the new album because they liked his mix of the gwen stefani song so much

a little ironing there given how the Gwen remix reminded some people a little of Electronic's 'Getting Away With It' (NB: reminding of does not necess. mean they sound alike, and indeed they don't)

$V£N! (blueski), Sunday, 8 May 2005 21:39 (nineteen years ago) link

haha, I didn't realize until JUST NOW that Stuart Price and Jacques Lu Cont were the same person!

kyle (akmonday), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 18:18 (nineteen years ago) link

there's also a jlc remix of jetstream too, right?

jermaine (jnoble), Friday, 13 May 2005 14:19 (nineteen years ago) link

one month passes...
yeah, and I listened to it a LOT for a week. tasty.

His "Lose Control" remix totally apes his remix of the Faint! Not that it is a bad thing....

Does anyone know if there will ever be another Les Rythmes Digitales akbum?.

That One Guy (That One Guy), Saturday, 25 June 2005 17:29 (eighteen years ago) link

His "Mr Brightside" remix is my single favorite moment this year.

Alfred Soto (Alfred Soto), Saturday, 25 June 2005 20:38 (eighteen years ago) link

"Jacques Your Body" is getting a rerelease with new mixes due to the Citroën ad, but no sign of a new LRD record and I wouldn't bet on any new stuff - he hasn't used the moniker in five years, not even for remixes.

BTW: spoof of the dancing robot ad

Siegbran (eofor), Sunday, 26 June 2005 16:17 (eighteen years ago) link

That Missy remix is a thing of joy and beauty. Manages the rare feat of improving on a near perfect work.
