I cannot believe CC didn't pull every string available in order to make Playtime one of their launch blu-ray titles

I just rewatched it and like, but find it just a tad long.

A (Francophile) friend found the first 2 Hulot films too "winsome"!

about Tati, who’s films I’ve only recently started to watch:
It was a delightful revelation that Mr. Bean was a reimagining of Hulot
I now sort of understand the assertion that the Hulot character might have been an influence on Lynch for his creation of Dougie Jones in TP:TR
I liked Mon Oncle much more than Monsieur Hulot’s Holiday
haven’t seen Playtime or Trafic yet, those are next

The bit in Trafic with the "dog" under the tire got me good

For the 1978 cut of M. Hulot's Holiday — which is the definitive one we've been watching for decades — Jacques Tati shot an additional joke about the broken kayak because he saw Jaws, then spliced it in. Note the dude with shaggy '70s hair edited into a movie from '53. pic.twitter.com/49nzu8E1rV— Matt Prigge (@mattprigge) April 27, 2020

Ha - just rewatched this the other day and that gag stuck out to me. Not the hair, I never would have noticed, but even allowing for Tati-movie-logic I was groaning at that guy, like come on dude youre 25 feet away, how do you think thats a real shark
