dunno if this makes it less pathetic or more, but i've hated althouse since the jessica valenti/bill clinton "boob" controversy that she made up of whole cloth. that's like five years ago.

it'd be one thing if she was just another nominally-liberal-but-i-really-wanna-be-a-raging-right-winger blogger like mickey kaus, but she's a law professor? as in, she is paid to teach people to think about the world and the law in this manner? her argumentation is fucking laughable. make a crazy spurious accusation based on flimsy evidence, react hysterically when you get taken down, claim your opponents are the ones with the REAL problem, why do they even CARE so much, something to HIDE hmmm? lather, rinse, repeat...

So, that (pierced nose! improv-performing!) woman upthread had this to say in a healthcare town hall:

“If you believe that it is absolutely moral to take my money and give it to someone else based on their supposed needs,” she said, waving a $20 bill to boos and cheers, “then you come and take this $20 and use it as a down payment on this health care plan.”

Someone ELSE. THEIR "supposed" needs. I really want her to require expensive (and hopefully uninsured) medical procedures, like, NOW.

on another topic: fucktard can't even put a sentence together

"I think Senator Bunning has - he's got a legitimate argument that he's making," House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, said. "You know, the Democrats just passed this pay-go legislation and not – not even a week after the President signed it into law they want to exempt the first bill that comes across the Senate floor from the – from the regulations. And so it's - and he has a right as a senator to express his will and he has."

i watched hardball last night, and listened to POTUS radio on XM this morning. i heard repeated references to the failed or near-failed obama presidency (e.g., one commentator on hardball last night said obama would lean on wavering democratic representatives by threatening that they will be known as the reason obama's presidency failed if they vote "no" on HCR).

is this, overall, the way cable, TV and radio are portraying obama's presidency? i've been too deep in my blog, print news magazine ghetto to notice.

Daniel, Esq., Tuesday, 2 March 2010 22:47 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah a lot of people take it as given that this presidency has been a complete embarrassing disaster for this once great nation. i wonder why.

goole, Tuesday, 2 March 2010 22:49 (fourteen years ago) link

"a lot"

mark roflr (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 2 March 2010 22:51 (fourteen years ago) link

this fucking guy

from tpm: Bunning Places Hold On All Nominations

whats the over/under on Obama having all his departments fully staffed by the time hes done being president? from what I read, he has some positions hes needed to fill since he won the goddamn election that are still being sat on.

yup, that line of attack from l. cheney is basic fascism. i know that is kossack hysterics or whatever but i dunno how else to talk about it.

goole, Tuesday, 2 March 2010 23:14 (fourteen years ago) link

lynn cheney is an utterly despicable person

Liz Cheney also

mark roflr (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 2 March 2010 23:18 (fourteen years ago) link

Disgusting, manipulative neocon bullshit with specious inserts of OBL will always be fascistic. The only hysteric here is Liz Cheney.

Is that vile woman calling Obama 'boy' in the lyrics? Why yes, I do believe she is, through AutoTunes.

ned ragú (suzy), Tuesday, 2 March 2010 23:25 (fourteen years ago) link

i don't get it. say obama gets HCR passed -- an incredibly complex and comprehensive reform act that, btw, the clinton presidency couldn't get enacted. the stimulus bill is increasingly being credited with saving the economy (i heard an economist over the weekend making just that case, along with the cash-for-clunkers (which removed inventory from showrooms), the auto bailout (which saved an industry and prevented a bad recession from perhaps metastasizing into a depression), money to states (which prevented devestating cuts that would have been enacted by now), and similar initiatives), and he's pressed for a jobs-bill and there will be more over the coming months. where's the failure, at least on those fronts? if anything, i think, on those fronts, he's been very successful. i realize obama has an exposed left flank, with people critical of him for executive-privilege positions and foreign-policy/nat'l defense matters, but that doesn't sound like it's forming any of the basis for the "failed obama presidency" narrative that i've now heard.

Daniel, Esq., Tuesday, 2 March 2010 23:27 (fourteen years ago) link

all that shit about john galt and self made men is such crap. conservatives are and always have been the royalist party, haven't they? (eh right away i think of nixon and reagan, yeah yeah whatever). at least cheney pere has like seven decades in "public service" to lean on when he starts talking shit, what the fuck has this woman ever done? i have to assume the media looks at her and just assumes the copy comes straight from dad, right? why is everyone ok with that?

and yes i know legacy candidates are kind big deal among dems too ahem teddy ahem. i have to case to make i guess, but, fuck liz cheney is how i break it down.

goole, Tuesday, 2 March 2010 23:28 (fourteen years ago) link

um Liz Cheney has also held public office

mark roflr (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 2 March 2010 23:29 (fourteen years ago) link

former State Dept official dontchaknow

mark roflr (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 2 March 2010 23:30 (fourteen years ago) link

daniel the simplest answer is a basic class analysis: however shifty the bailouts are, or look, and they are PLENTY shifty, obama has spent a shitload of political effort and a staggering amount of money helping (or at least, making sure things are less bad for) vast swathes of the country that the american right couldn't give two fucks about.

and life continues to be bad for a lot of people, so they get to blame him for it in the bargain.

hmm "had a job" and "held office" aren't the same in my book, but thx, didn't know that.

goole, Tuesday, 2 March 2010 23:33 (fourteen years ago) link

Was she elected to it, with votes? Nuh-uh. Anyway it hardly matters to editors and producers who schedule appearances, they're whores for neo-feudal connections whether it's a rock star's kid or a politician's.

Esq.: As far as I can tell it is just neocons and their trained circus people dreaming out loud, while taking some form of solace in bummed-out progressives who thought Obama

ned ragú (suzy), Tuesday, 2 March 2010 23:35 (fourteen years ago) link

i heard it from howard fineman on hardball and from the news announcer on POTUS radio. i'd expect it only from neocons, but i don't think fineman/POTUS news anchor are neocons.

Daniel, Esq., Tuesday, 2 March 2010 23:36 (fourteen years ago) link

maybe we should hash out what a neocon is again

nitzer ebbebe (gbx), Tuesday, 2 March 2010 23:38 (fourteen years ago) link

speaking of inside-baseball media beef bullshit, this is kinda funny

goole, Tuesday, 2 March 2010 23:38 (fourteen years ago) link

don't see what elected has to do with anything. she was a public servant. in the State Department. which is kind of high up.

I'm not defending her - obviously she's an unscrupulous shitbag - but let's keep our facts straight please.

mark roflr (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 2 March 2010 23:38 (fourteen years ago) link

actually, gbx, i just saw a site suggesting fineman is a hardline conservative, so maybe i'm wrong.

Daniel, Esq., Tuesday, 2 March 2010 23:39 (fourteen years ago) link

btw, the other guest on that hardball segment, pollster charlie cook, made hcr sound like a loooooooonnnnnnnnnggggg shot, at best, at this point.

Daniel, Esq., Tuesday, 2 March 2010 23:40 (fourteen years ago) link

HCR bill is going to happen

mark roflr (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 2 March 2010 23:40 (fourteen years ago) link

Dems have to learn better game face IMO.

Daniel, totally missed the POTUS/Fineman detail off because I got caught in that Liz Cheney clusterfuck. And I know what a neo-con is.

ned ragú (suzy), Tuesday, 2 March 2010 23:42 (fourteen years ago) link

Fineman is a jackass

mark roflr (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 2 March 2010 23:42 (fourteen years ago) link

btw

mark roflr (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 2 March 2010 23:43 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah it's going to happen. political damage of NOT passing some form of HCR >>> political damage of passing it

daria-g, Tuesday, 2 March 2010 23:43 (fourteen years ago) link

I'm not going to like a lot of it, and it won't deliver the solutions it could have, but something is going to get passed, and the Democrats are going to call it "healthcare reform".

mark roflr (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 2 March 2010 23:44 (fourteen years ago) link

it will deliver the fascist socialist big government apocalypse that destroys the usa as we know it, didn't you hear? i heard

daria-g, Tuesday, 2 March 2010 23:46 (fourteen years ago) link

The senator, who is not seeking re-election this year, has been objecting to requests to bring an unemployment bill to the floor, grinding the Senate to a halt.

Sex Sexual (kingfish), Tuesday, 2 March 2010 23:46 (fourteen years ago) link

I heard that too. Shame, really, just when things were going so well. xpost

ned ragú (suzy), Tuesday, 2 March 2010 23:47 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah the problem with Bunning is no one has any leverage on the guy.

mark roflr (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 2 March 2010 23:47 (fourteen years ago) link
