baby d's i'm bout money - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vwXchrgZSy8
The rap is _deeply_ lamentable, but the production's nice, the little flute synth is purty and the hook is addictive... gonna be jacked on a zillion mixtapes shortly. I'd love to get an instrumental.

forksclovetofu, Monday, 21 April 2008 05:06 (sixteen years ago) link

the rapping is way less lamentable than the awful chorus. production is aight i guess.

J0rdan S., Monday, 21 April 2008 05:08 (sixteen years ago) link

im still salty about 'i got a dollar' never taking off

young buck does the (seemingly, these days at least) impossible:

write a diss response that's actually a really good song:

this is pretty rad, some cat from N.O. i never heard of...real laidback, conversational type flow over classic mostly west coast and east coast tracks

Curren$y was one of the guys Lil Wayne signed to Young Money Ent. before he realized that noone besides Wayne and Baby were ever gonna put any records out over there and left. definitely a talented dude, outshined Wayne on some mixtape tracks, I'll have to check for that.

Alex in Baltimore, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 19:05 (sixteen years ago) link

don't have to check too hard; try "curren$y rapidshare"

forksclovetofu, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 19:08 (sixteen years ago) link

i'm not Tuomas, you don't have to explain search engines to me.

Alex in Baltimore, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 19:18 (sixteen years ago) link

I apparently do have to explain general courtesy.

forksclovetofu, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 19:34 (sixteen years ago) link

datpiff.com is a good spot for mixtapes

M@tt He1ges0n, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 19:34 (sixteen years ago) link

i just thought it was a funny thing to think you have to point out! when i say "check for" an internet-only release it's basically because only 10% of the time I'm online am I actually at home and able to download or listen to music. but yeah, i like datpiff.

Alex in Baltimore, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 19:45 (sixteen years ago) link

'general courtesy' wtf is this the ritztone thread now

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 19:48 (sixteen years ago) link

The reason I pointed it out was cuz it's so readily available at the moment and I'm listening to it now.
Hoos, don't you work at the Ritz?

forksclovetofu, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 19:50 (sixteen years ago) link

cosign on the 30,000 tape

and yeah i am for any and all curren$y appearances

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 19:57 (sixteen years ago) link

lol ritztone

anyway i always thought currensy was only an okay rapper, his voice is pretty monotone and emotionless iirc tho i think he had a few good verses on some of the songs off of the og carter III leak

at least they actually wrote an article around the interview instead of a straight up Q&A. his last XXL cover story was the most incomprehensible and pointless interview I've ever read.

Alex in Baltimore, Sunday, 27 April 2008 00:56 (sixteen years ago) link

Guilty Simpson is prolly the second best hip-hop album of 08 so far after Webbie.

finally heard this guy on the Morgan State radio station the other night, until he said his name a minute or two into the song I kept thinking "is this Beanie Sigel? why is he rhyming over some tinny faux-Dilla shit?". no way can a rapper with breath control as pathetic as Webbie have the best album of the year or even the past 3-4 months, though. the album has a few jams but the guy couldn't ride a beat if it had handlebars and a bucket seat.

come to think i'm actually really liking this. dude over some of my favorite beats of the last couple years and he raps like he's a hip-hop head instead of hustler or a self-consciously insular wordy underground weirdo. it's like we grew up loving the same records and where i decided to write about it he decided to make it.
