a funny poll would be which rapper in 2008 have you not heard anything buy but are the most sick of?

i'd go with "mickey factz"

jordan s (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 30 October 2008 16:25 (fifteen years ago) link

Charles Hamilton's signed to Interscope, Wale's signed to Interscope, Asher Roth's signed to SRC/Universal, plus obv. the more mainstream guys on that cover (Ace Hood, B.O.B., Cory Gunz) have deals too.

eman, Thursday, 30 October 2008 16:33 (fifteen years ago) link

should the poll just be the 10 people on the xxl covers?

jordan s (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 30 October 2008 16:35 (fifteen years ago) link

btw ace hood's album is going to drop in 2 weeks and do V.I.C numbers

jordan s (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 30 October 2008 16:37 (fifteen years ago) link

I still think that dude is kind of good or at least well above most of the other Rappers from Florida whose first, biggest and/or only hit featured T-Pain but yeah, that album can't really be worth hearing, can it.

some dude, Thursday, 30 October 2008 16:44 (fifteen years ago) link

im holding out hope that "cash flow" would rise on the hot 100 so ace could get something close to the beats/guests on the first ross album since he's pretty entrenched in the khaled camp cuz i think that would turn out to be a pretty listenable album

Eminem sans emotional baggage/"poor" aspects personality w/Jay-Z: The Indie-Friendly Years flow plus CollegeHumor.com vibe = pretty much a no brainer for mid level sales figures without much outlay.

He'll never make a "Shake It Like A White Girl" though, mainly because he's fucking shit.

BIOGRAPHY

Hip hop hasn’t evolved drastically in some time, and with all the new comers making catchy and infectious records for a quick ring tone sell, there’s a lack of creativity in hip hop and the focus is more about how many units can be sold. Every generation a few new artist’s come forth with something to set a pace for a whole new sound and vibe–this time around, the midwest delivers another innovative artist to break down barriers and set trends.

K.i.D CuDi’s music can only be described as the next level of music in our generation and for generations to come. Cudi (originally from Cleveland, Ohio, but spent the last 3 years living in Brooklyn) fuses alternative rock, hip hop and occasionally R & B, to form feel good and emotionally conscious records. His content is filled with witty explanations about himself and his lifes journeys, with a twist of story telling scenerios. His first single “Day N Nite” is nothing more than a conscious awareness record about his faults and how he deals with them. “I’m sure everyone has been in at least one or two of the scenerios I mentioned in “Day N Night”. It was a record designed to let the people out there know—hey, we all have issues. But there’s ways to get through and there’s always a brighter day ahead filled with answers to the toughest situations; we all get lonely sometimes, its life.” With every record, especially “Day N Nite”, CuDi vows to put his heart into each record, so after hearing each song you can feel like you actually know him. “People like records they can relate to, even if you can’t relate to something I speak about, you’ll at least understand my mind, I won’t lose anyone. Even if they haven’t walked in my shoes, they’ll feel me for me.”

all the new comers making catchy and infectious records for a quick ring tone sell

too easy to strike and replace (catchy and infectious/clever and meta, ring tone sell/blog traffic, etc.)

Then came Soulja Boy Tell Em. I asked him, “What historical figure do you most hate?” He was stumped. I said, "Others have said Hitler, bin Laden, the slave masters..." He said, "Oh wait! Hold up! Shout out to the slave masters! Without them we'd still be in Africa."

My jaw, at this point, was on the ground."We wouldn't be here," he continued, having no idea how far in it he'd stepped, "to get this ice and tattoos."

Beg to differ on the devin --- some ballast sure but can't make it home is a great single and there's 3 or 4 other honorable mention type tracks --- think I like it better than the last ---

woah premo!

for some reason today i'm listening to the "what the fuck is a jay electronica" tape and it sounds a lot better to me...i wish he'd do more southern style shit though, the song w/flip is great...but he's pretty nice, even though he has this sorta chameleonesque thing going on, like what type of rapper are you dude?

Is the idea that we wouldn't get the pun if Chris Rock wasn't on the track?

come to think i'm actually really liking this. dude over some of my favorite beats of the last couple years and he raps like he's a hip-hop head instead of hustler or a self-consciously insular wordy underground weirdo. it's like we grew up loving the same records and where i decided to write about it he decided to make it.
