if you swing your vote between either party based solely on "those clowns in congress have done it again, what a bunch of clowns"-level understanding of how policy is implemented, you are stupid. and unfortunately, much of the time that's what being an "independent" voter in this country boils down to.

The southern pride thing is complete and totally BS anyways, because before the civil war the wealth distribution in the south (amongst whites) was highly concentrated among the upper class and everyone else was in abject poverty. People think the rebels fought a war to preserve this great "uncomplicated" way of living when all they were really fighting for was for the top 1% to maintain their status quo of total economic domination.
