I'm not like a huge Dilla person by any means, but this J-Rocc mix is phenomenal:

Thank You Jay Dee: Act 2

there's something kind of distasteful about this I think...

^this from a dude who loves the "make it rain" remix which makes about 8 katrina jokes

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 29 April 2008 20:32 (fifteen years ago) link

anyway it is distasteful but what's the point of complaining about the cover of a comp tape from some dude named "dj envy"

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 29 April 2008 20:33 (fifteen years ago) link

anyway what is on that w/r/t music-- old shit i imagine. anything newish worth while?

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 29 April 2008 20:33 (fifteen years ago) link

there's no katrina reference in R. Kelly's verse

PoMXII, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 20:34 (fifteen years ago) link

and he is the definition of taste, as everyone knows

PoMXII, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 20:35 (fifteen years ago) link

that cover is Luda, Rosss and (who the fuck is that? Yung Joc?) staging and intervention for Weezy.

Alex in Baltimore, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 20:37 (fifteen years ago) link

um yeah it's great it's more or less new freestyles and mixtape cuts for about two thirds of it...I mean "new" as in the past couple weeks...it's a good roundup of pretty much every southern rapper that's hot right now

PoMXII, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 20:37 (fifteen years ago) link

lol it does look like that....and yes thats Yung Joc

PoMXII, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 20:39 (fifteen years ago) link

M@tt He1ges0n, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 21:08 (fifteen years ago) link

this t.i. song is pretty hot. these synths sound like the ones from "dat girl right there" except they're pretty annoying in this song. really ruins the vibe imo. guitar is awesome though.

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 29 April 2008 21:10 (fifteen years ago) link

ethan will love the "let go and let god deal with it" line

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 29 April 2008 21:12 (fifteen years ago) link

man I loove the synths on this....I think the beat is incredible

PoMXII, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 20:48 (fifteen years ago) link

you know i was all set to be mr. hater tots on that song but the second and third verses are pretty great

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 30 April 2008 20:49 (fifteen years ago) link

i could do without the LET'S SAVE BRITNEY AND LOHAN AND K-FED verse but what can you do

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 30 April 2008 20:50 (fifteen years ago) link

and that lone horn that comes in after the sample is sublime-- very reminiscent of "circles"

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 30 April 2008 20:50 (fifteen years ago) link

I believe I was a little hater-ish on it at first but I love it now, and yeah the second and third verses are sick....he really can't do wrong, or at least rarely ever does

that album is great

PoMXII, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 21:05 (fifteen years ago) link

except for "girls gone wild"

PoMXII, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 21:07 (fifteen years ago) link

it has like 4 really good tracks the rest is just mediocre especially by his standards. not to mention that for a great singles artist "money maker" and "runaway love" are two of his worst ever.

i still don't think he's rapping as well as he used to, i mean maybe he drops a super hot line from time to time, but at least he's got his boisterous attitude back and he's still a good technical rapper so that makes up for his straight-up lyrical deficiencies now i think

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 30 April 2008 21:09 (fifteen years ago) link

4. Girls Gone Wild
5. Ultimate Satisfaction
6. Mouths To Feed
7. End Of The Night
8. Woozy

like this stretch was real fucking boring iirc

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 30 April 2008 21:10 (fifteen years ago) link

"Mouths To feed" and "Ultimate Satisfaction" are two of my faves from that album...

PoMXII, Wednesday, 30 April 2008 21:17 (fifteen years ago) link

i think the way he says Grammys in "Speedin" is so weird....just sayin

Game went hard on "911 is a Joke"

PoMXII, Thursday, 1 May 2008 01:50 (fifteen years ago) link

I just went through about 100 emails, and listened to about 60 CD's I attend a lot of conferences throughout the year so I get a lot of material, and a lot of email. You know what else I get a lot of? Dumb ass statements like this…." Yo I'm -----This my hit single I'm gonna change the game, or "Yo I'm the truth I'm what the game is missing! " I'm hot in the streets", I sold x amount of units already.

Man! Shut the F*ck up already, if you really was hot in the streets, or was selling units you wouldn't have to introduce yourself. I and every other person would already know who you are. Artists act like we in the club, and that's they pick up line. Like we automatically suppose to believe you first off, and second off just, because the kids in ya crew, and ya girls crew got you all on their top 8 on MySpace does not justify you being hot. Lines like the ones above will get you deleted real fast from my email.

If you have to tell me your hot, you probably not. I support the up & coming artist so I'm always going to listen to your stuff, but if 20 people come to me at a conference and say "I'm the next one", then; I can see you all fit the same mold, and you not really grinding to get your buzz up, you begging for a buzz. If you want to promote yourself, and let people know you are hot; Put together a press kit, do a press release for the single, take an ad out with a magazine..Invest in your product instead of shoving me a mixtape with Sucka MC written on it with a sharpie. If you can't spend money on yourself; why the hell would anybody else? Stop stepping to djs like you already on. Humble yourself, network, and build a relationship. Find out who works at what magazines, and websites, do e-blasts. I know what you thinking "I don't have that type of bread" No Duh if you did you would be on already making corny ass music with Young berg, and Ray J. That's a different story. Where was I?

Oh Money, I know everybody want money for something. No one sees the big picture. Well my man Donny Goines is doing big things with no money, I see upcoming cats building a buzz everyday just networking and putting in a little work. If you stop frontin trying to get in the Source, and XXL, and support these upcoming magazines you might get your buzz up. Jump on these other hot websites like www.Wordofsouth.com, or www.yoraps.com That's SUPPORT once again. Then you can finally stop feeding people the lies of how hot you think you are.

They'll already see it.

Well gotta get back to playing Frisbee with your cds…

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Friday, 2 May 2008 22:22 (fifteen years ago) link

It was an ordinary day at the Wu-Tang mansion. Ghostface and Raekwon tossed around a football in the backyard while Ol' Dirty Bastard, RZA, and the rest of the gang watched the game inside. What nobody expected was the knock at the door that would forever change their lives. Much to their surprise, a tiny but majestic baby with a mysterious pendant was on their doorstep and with nowhere else to go and no sign of who the baby belonged to, the Wu-Tang Clan had no choice but to adopt the tot and nickname him the Wu-Tang Baby. Little did they know, this baby was much sought after by an eldritch wizard living in the sewers for his pendant, and when the baby was kidnapped by the Cheese Panda XD, a henchman of the wizard, the Wu-Tang Clan was tasked with finding the wizard's lair in the sewers and rescuing the kidnapped baby from his evil clutches in...
