Re MIA in general, I'm with deej. I don't like any of her music (I called her first record "Tom Tom Club with a tan" and I stand by that) and I think the hype and general lovefest atmosphere around her every half-assed, fumbling gesture is somewhere between annoying and infuriating.

I do not understand people who don't listen to music from the 80s.

As far as I'm concerned, music was INVENTED in the 80s (or mor specifially, with Joy Division). Anything before that is just proto-music.

Heavy metal has become consumed by our corporate, capitalist culture (holy crap that’s a lot of alliteration). It is a safe way to rebel while not actually doing anything to change things. Instead of protesting heinous acts or boycotting evil corporations, or trying to make the world a better place in any way, you go to Virgin Megastore or iTunes to buy a Metallica CD that was produced by a big company. Then you go to a concert sponsored by Coca-Cola and McDonalds, never thinking about the horrific things these companies do to their workers so that they can make a profit off a 99 cent cheeseburger. But it’s okay, because you’re making devil horns with your hands, so you’re a badass.

Warrant is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people.

one month passes...

I can't shake the impression that

is to shallow trendy hipsters.

Just my impression- I hope nobody who enjoys it here takes offense to that.

if you've exclusively lived live in indie rock clubs and Warp Tour venues, and have someone else drive you from one to the other so that you can close your eyes while you're in transit, then that statement could make total sense

take two:

if you've exclusively lived in indie rock clubs and Warp Tour venues, and you've exclusively had someone else drive you from one to the other so that you can close your eyes while you're in transit, then that statement could make total sense

I saw that on the wavves thread. I'm not sure what he means, because he says one picture of young people is analogous to another picture of young people, but doesn't say anything about music except that he associates the top picture with kids who listen to emo music and the bottom picture with kids who listen to ??skate punk?? ??indie??. If you lived in an indie club, you'd probably see a lot more variety among the clientele than that picture indicates, so it isn't too accurate by ksh's estimate or Evan's, but what was I trying to say again? I need breakfast. I think I was just saying that the exchange doesn't seem wtf-worthy on a subboard.

bamcquern, Thursday, 1 July 2010 16:07 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah, that was more confusing than enlightening, and not confusing enough to be wtf-worthy
