As for the Kims, I love them both too. I like Sonic Youth but never loved them like Pixies. I go with Deal.

I like Last Splash as much as any Pixies album, so.

Yeah well I didnt start this thread or invite the comparison, i just wanted to talk about kim deal and she doesn't have a dedicated thread.

I'm loving the mini-revival for Pacer here. I feel like a lot of Gordon's SY songs are underrated but def Deal has connected to more profoundly; I like-to-love every single album of hers. Shakes & MatthewK & La Lechera all otm here

Pacer's one of my fav five or so albums, probably. Always love listening to it. Only picked it up by chance, Back when vinyl wasn't selling much and The Amps had about 10% of the name recognition of The Breeders (iirc Deal once said not just calling it the third Breeders album was her biggest career regret).

Deal's probably otm that releasing the album under a different name from the Breeders was a colossal mistake. You'd think that a follow-up to a huge album would've gotten more attention but it really kind of disappeared.

Kim Deal is my favorite '90s musician, i think everything she touched that decade is gold and persona-wise she is just really appealing and admirable imo.

I love the Breeders' version of Gloomtown. I remember first hearing it in Live in Stockholm

Fwiw I spoke to a woman in NYC in 2002 who claimed she interviewed Kim D backstage at a gig and she was openly smoking heroin but I think she went to rehab for alcoholism rather than heroin and that was before the Pixies reformed so suggestion she did the reformation to support her habit doesn't ring true. She admits to taking lots of drugs in the late 90s. Anyway both these women are icons to me and this thread kinda sucks but here I am adding to it so fuck me I guess.

I assume she did the reunion for the money just like every band does

So glad Elijah Wood and you guys repped for Amps - Pacer. What a wonderful album I could have easily missed. Pollard only co-written a track but I kept imagining he had some bigger role because a bunch of songs sound a bit Pollardy to me.
