not a fan of ke$ha, but da croup 100%++++ OTM on this. if you didn't crack up when MAYBE WE ARE THE ALIENS came up with the hand light show thing you got the wrong take on this

this is a pretty retarded statement -- also i haven't seen this performance yet but i generally agree with tape store that i prefer the actual professionalism and... ideas in gaga's performances. on the other hand if you're ke$ha and you can write good pop songs but you know you aren't much of a performer, being a total jackass on stage is more preferable to trying to do an earnest performance a la cassie infamous 106 & park performance of "me & u"

the way you guys make the two performances from last night sound, i'm imagining ke$ha as one of those people who comes on and dances towards the end of a "what up with that" sketch

^ 100% of SNL musical performances could be improved by having Jason Sudeikis reprise his "What Up With That" role with the acts.

100% of SNL could improved by having J-Sud dancing throughout. His boogie as Todd Palin during in Amy Poehler's rap is insane.

I had never seen Kesha before and being something of a contrarian I was hoping to like her, but I couldn't take either performance. I agree with the sentiment upthread that she looked scared.

The juggalo thing was pretty boring compared to their previous attempts at the subject.

Bad episode overall, especially compared to last week.

I fear the Gabourey Sidibe episode next week, not because she's not a funny person (she is), but because I don't know that they know what to do with her.

i definitely like most of his impressions for the funniness more than accuracy, but you are fulla shit solely on the basis of his Malkovich.

When he first joined, it was all about impressions...they even had a skit where he and Andy Samberg went head to head doing impressions, the joke being Andy didn't do anything but say "hey, I'm Al Pacino". I think maybe they're just pushing him too far...the impressions that he's good at, he's uncanny and hilarious.

yeah at first i kinda thought of him as 'the new impressions guy' even though supposedly he'd never done impressions before joining SNL, but in general he's so great w/ voices that it usually doesn't matter of his version of a celeb is spot-on.

i like most of hader's stuff but occasionally he just bombs like when he did Pacino as a southerner for some reason

They need to cut back on the sketches where he does impressions so they can have more sketches where he plays the host of a wacky game show.

I did notice that both his Branson and his Carville had some similar mannerisms (loose shoulders, left elbow on the table with a closed fist).

His Carville isn't very good, also it annoys me because they're not really making fun of Carville, they're just using him as a means to make fun of politicians, which is ok, but really it could just be Bill Hader making fun of politicians instead of Hader as Carville making fun of politicians and it wouldn't make much difference.

yeah he's definitely more of a mouthpiece for a bunch of lefty zings but i enjoy those bits, they're jaunty and fun imo

I do like Hader and his impressions btw. So glad Darrel Hammond finally quit.

Probably my favorite SNL impression is Armisen as David Paterson (although that's starting to wear thin), and it bears very little resemblance to the actual dude, i.e. he doesn't talk like that, he doesn't have a vendetta against NEW JERSEY. It's basically a character named "David Paterson," loosely based on the real-life person.

it's all taste, but the only time i have beef is when i think they failed to capture what makes them funny, like his pacino, which sounds more like jackie gleason in smokey and the bandit.

his impressions just seem really canned to me -- vocally he ain't bad, but the mannerisms in the branson & carville (esp the carville) are really stilted and awkward

the game show sketches are almost always lame (and 8 mins long), but "i got it" or w/e was pretty decent (a really good idea but kind of limited in lols by nature)

game show sketches have been a lazy SNL formula for decades, but i'm ok with ones like that and the Burn Notice sketch that just take take the concept to an absurd place.

i guess any game show that isn't hinged on 8 mins of kristen wiig making faces is a win in some regard

yeah the fact that they've done the 'secret word' sketch more than once just as a vehicle for her stupid actress character is despicable imo

i can never hate her because she's still great in lower key and duo sketches (love that improv musical duo with fred armisen) but any "people stare blankly while kristen spazzes" bit is straight up mary gallagher hell.
