daniel striped tiger (OutDatWay), Wednesday, 6 September 2006 18:48 (seventeen years ago) link

I've dealt with the Circuit Court Clerk's office a ton and haven't found it to be any worse than any other clerk's office here or in North Carolina. I might have a high tolerance for surly municipal employees and bureaucratic nonsense, though.

32. Have you ever ridden a Metra train and where to?
took it out to deerfield because my ex had a job interview out there and was nervous and didn't want to go alone. i called in sick to work and walked around for the four hours while she was at her interview. it was about 10 degrees outside. it was my 29th birthday. she got the job.

33. Have you ever been swimming at a city beach?
Yes, somewhere on the far noth side with Jesse. There was trash in the water. I haven't been since.

34. Where is your favorite place to order delivery pizza of any style?
We always ordered from Gordano's, the place famously characterized by Jonah as looking like it was run by rats. I don't have a favorite place in our new neighborhood yet.

35. How many places have you lived in Chicago?
Two

36. What are you most embarassed by in the city when guests visit?
I was a wee bit embarassed when Jeff's parents came to visit for the first time and someone stole his mom's wallet on the train.

37. How often do you go to the Harrold Washington Library?
Monthly, roughly.

38. What do you like best about living here? Like least?
Best - there is always something entertaining going on, and nine times out of ten, I can walk to it. Also, public transportation.
Least - sometimes it's a little too noisy. Chicago, slow down!

EXTRA BONUS- Where's question 18?
In the gimp room.

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Wednesday, 6 September 2006 18:56 (seventeen years ago) link

Whoops. I did not ride the Metra with Kevin's ex. As a matter of fact, I have never ridden Metra.

I just thought of another good one...

Do you drink Chicago tap water?
(yes)

daniel striped tiger (OutDatWay), Wednesday, 6 September 2006 19:06 (seventeen years ago) link

And I mean straight from the tap, no Brit@ or anything...

daniel striped tiger (OutDatWay), Wednesday, 6 September 2006 19:08 (seventeen years ago) link

I use a Brita out of habit, but I don't have a problem with Chicago tap water -- it usually tastes fine to me. At this point the Brita is just a way to keep my water cold in the refrigerator.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 6 September 2006 19:08 (seventeen years ago) link

my last place was fine, i have REEEEEALLLLY hard water at my current place, calcium deposits on my shower head requiring frequent cleaning are proof. brita is good to me.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Wednesday, 6 September 2006 19:11 (seventeen years ago) link

Whoops. I did not ride the Metra with Kevin's ex. As a matter of fact, I have never ridden Metra.

I was on my way down to ask you about this. I missed the she part, but still wondered what was up since you and Jeff were a couple on your 29th b-day as far as I know.

The Pig on the Stairs (hanging in a groovy purple shirt) (unclejessjess), Wednesday, 6 September 2006 19:13 (seventeen years ago) link

Hard water= low-sudsing on your soap. But soft water= need for extended periods of rinsing soap from your body.

The Pig on the Stairs (hanging in a groovy purple shirt) (unclejessjess), Wednesday, 6 September 2006 19:14 (seventeen years ago) link

The only difference I know between the two is from growing up, when we had a water softener in the garage. We used soft water for most things, but hard water tasted better, so we'd run downstairs and flip it when we wanted to fill up a pitcher.

Man, I can't help but feel sorry for the guy, since he's an old man who'll have to sit in a jail cell for a good part of his twilight years -- and also because his lifting of the death penalty really endeared me to him, corruption charges notwithstanding. If he'd run again, and was up against a Democrat stooge like Glenn Poshard, I'd probably have voted for him.

I am working late tonight just because there will be free pizza. It's all very sad.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 6 September 2006 21:21 (seventeen years ago) link

I am working late because tomorrow I have to tell a bunch of editors about What It Is We Do. Then I have to go to a training session for the bulk of the rest of the afternoon. This leaves me with a half day to do my actual "work." And that is not enough time to get it done, so here I am.

daniel striped tiger (OutDatWay), Wednesday, 6 September 2006 21:30 (seventeen years ago) link

Out of the blue today, I got a small raise. Didn't see that one coming.

My new favorite Hannah's Bretzel Sandwich:

It's called the Sergio's special. It's got French ham, gruyere cheese, mango chutney, avocado and slightly sweet jalapeno peppers. The mellowness and creaminess of the avocado and chutney balance out the jalapeno's perfectly. A++++++++++++

Jeff. (Jeff), Wednesday, 6 September 2006 23:28 (seventeen years ago) link

Yum.

I am going out with my little jailbird buddy tomorrow. I don't know that it's a date, but we are going out at 8:00 for food and a beer.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 7 September 2006 02:45 (seventeen years ago) link

My mind is blown here, too, but mainly because I can't even begin to imgine what "southwest mayo" or "chipotle chutney" might taste like, except for some kind of nasty trendy crap concoction. And "East Shore mustard"? WTF? In the words of Rickey Ricardo, they got some some splainin' to do.

always crashing in other people's cars (kenan), Thursday, 7 September 2006 03:08 (seventeen years ago) link

I HATE IT WHEN PLACES MAKE UP THEIR OWN CONDIMENTS AND DON'T TELL YOU WHAT THEY ARE. They may as well call it all "special sauce."

"Roast chicken, peanut butter, cilantro, and special sauce."

Sounds a lot less appetizing now, doesn't it?

(gah. especially the peanut butter.)

always crashing in other people's cars (kenan), Thursday, 7 September 2006 03:16 (seventeen years ago) link

I think Chicago is dirty. It doesn't matter that other big cities have trash on the ground too. It's still gross to have to dodge stuff on the sidewalk. Also, my parents are used to smaller well groomed towns. I'm just sayin'.

Also, I think I tend to get embarassed or prideful about different aspects of the city because I have to defend living so far away from the relatives.

Queen Sarah Saturday (coco), Thursday, 7 September 2006 12:30 (seventeen years ago) link

For the most part, I think Chicago is beautiful. It makes me want to kill kill kill when I see a lady open her car window and toss out AN entire empty bag of Dorritos.

Jenny, tell me about this Tweet Lets Eat place.

Queen Sarah Saturday (coco), Thursday, 7 September 2006 12:34 (seventeen years ago) link

I have no idea why I capatalized 'an.'

Queen Sarah Saturday (coco), Thursday, 7 September 2006 12:35 (seventeen years ago) link

Special sauce or not, I'm not sure I want that kind of control of my sandwich handed over to me. The options are intimidating. I would need to keep a spreadsheet for that shit.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 7 September 2006 12:40 (seventeen years ago) link

I will be drinking in Chicago, in a couple of weeks. I was going to ask for recommendations but it seems like you have all helpfully filled in questionnaires above, with answers that look distinctly like recommendations.

I am excited about seeing Chicago.

Hey, some of you guys are Bu1lt to Sp1ll fans, right? Apparently one of the guys in my band works with the lead guy's MOM at a bank in town.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 7 September 2006 13:33 (seventeen years ago) link

My survey timing was awesome!

SARAH! We MUST go to Tweet Let's Eat. It's up north on Sheridan and Argyle/Carmen and it's a wee bit pricey and there can be a wait, so it's not an every weekend kind of place bust sister, their brunch rocks socks. Plus if there is a wait, you can sit at the bar in Big Chicks (it's owned by the Big Chicks lady and is right next door) and drink delicious free coffee (no, seriously, it's wonderful) or not free but also wonderful bloody marys. Then you eat awesome food.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 7 September 2006 13:50 (seventeen years ago) link

Hi Tim. I think I speak for most everyone here when I say we like drinking in Chicago, so give a yell if you want to hang.

I have heard such wholesale ringing endorsements of Jerry's Sandwiches that I trust their secret sauces are wonderful.

Today looks to be a busy one.

I'm going to Subterranean tonight to see ROBERT BUSCEMI AND KUMAIL AND SOME OTHER STAND-UP NAMED JARED LOGAN. You know you want to. Tix are $10, but apparently you can say you are "industry" at the door and get 2-for-1. I also have a postcard that works in the same way. There's also a "pop-punk" band called THE ROMEROS playing -- I have no idea if they are any good or not.

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 7 September 2006 14:10 (seventeen years ago) link

Ditto on the "maybe" for me. Downtown would be easiest, but don't change things up on my account.

I'm really glad Chicago has no hills since a bicycle is in my commuting repertoire. Even when I ride Foster from Broadway to Clark I am aware of the incline. On the other hand, I don't really have to pedal when I toward Broadway.
