it totally shouldn't work, but they nailed the integration

Best fit in a way is playing as Contra guy, which perfectly captures the Contra experience: when you get the Spread Gun everything is just over-the-top wonderful, and then as soon as you lose it everything's fucked.

Really hard to switch over to Samus after that, losing the whole duck-and-shoot thing in favor of the bombs.

canabalt/portal.
I made it to level 28 and had to go to bed.

it was fun. my final score was 2,055. But I imagine knowing some of the puzzles I could get a higher score now.

Exit Path's decent, but seems to miss the point a little of Canabalt, with so many moves and death traps, it's not simple and engaging enough to be worth all the dying. But the multiplayer/mmo stuff is a great idea, with more polish it could really be something.

Zelda II... just no.

Nhex, Saturday, 5 June 2010 01:20 (thirteen years ago) link

omg that zelda thing

Zelda thing made me want to die. Sad nerdzz

Flautists Uber Frisco (jjjusten), Saturday, 5 June 2010 05:25 (thirteen years ago) link

I was kind of touched by the idea of it, but it's not exactly a playable, fun game. Maybe it's all a deliberate commentary on the pointless 3D-ification of classic franchises....except that the 3D Zeldas were actually good. So I dunno.

Yeah, it's a great concept but somehow still really dull to play.

yeah but when it comes to the mines i can't find another x to drag it on to!

This is a multiplayer online game from the guy who made Runman. Dessgeega wrote about it:

http://www.auntiepixelante.com/?p=598

Now it's up and running, but no one's yet playing it. One guy named Chris was there, but that's not enough to get a game going (you need four or five, I think).

GunGirl 2 is a really solid Metroidvania/run n' gun, cheesy 16-bit era aesthetic - kind of reminds me of other freeware/indie games like Survival Crisis Z. Between this and Hero Core I've been really getting my fill of these type of games.

So Frontierville on FB is actually a step above most FB social media games. Not saying it's great by any means, but they're starting to figure out how to make social media games work in interesting ways. (Link to it: http://apps.facebook.com/frontierville/ -- thing I wrote about it for more of my thoughts about why it works: http://popculturecurator.tumblr.com/post/740021134/frontierville-and-the-establishment-of-community )

I pulled something in my back and I've been pretty much laid up for the past day and a half - - - thankfully, there's Gun Girl 2. Great find. I think I ran into a sequence-wrecking glitch but it's still playable, and boy does it have great control/timing. There are things I would quibble about, and I had to turn off the special effects b/c the graphics don't work right on my machine, but it's a damn nice slice of freeware, great jump-n-shoot fun.

Doctor Casino, Sunday, 25 July 2010 15:25 (thirteen years ago) link

THANK YOU. I thought I had requested a change to the thread title a long time ago, but maybe I just imagined it because I don't see it. Anyway, thanks!
