They're letting him go on and on. Fantastic.

Pazuzu's petals (kenan), Sunday, 9 May 2010 04:13 (thirteen years ago) link

the only way i can be happy about hearing "empire of state of mind" is when it interrupts "bonnie & clyde 03"

J0rdan S., Sunday, 9 May 2010 04:13 (thirteen years ago) link

Holy shit.

Mordy, Sunday, 9 May 2010 04:13 (thirteen years ago) link

They don't even let U2 go on this long.

Mordy, Sunday, 9 May 2010 04:13 (thirteen years ago) link

Ok yeah, that was hot.

Pazuzu's petals (kenan), Sunday, 9 May 2010 04:16 (thirteen years ago) link

i hope jay-z buys NBC and replaces all their shows w/ a loop of his live performances

J0rdan S., Sunday, 9 May 2010 04:17 (thirteen years ago) link

Aw, you can't say that the same week as the Community paintball episode.

Mordy, Sunday, 9 May 2010 04:20 (thirteen years ago) link

other than jay this episode has been unwatchable

johnny crunch, Sunday, 9 May 2010 04:22 (thirteen years ago) link

A friend on Twitter:

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 9 May 2010 04:55 (thirteen years ago) link

This was funny for awhile! Then the monologue ended.

Old lady doing 5 minutes of vag jokes = 2010 'edgy'

Mordy, Sunday, 9 May 2010 05:13 (thirteen years ago) link

morbs otm tho -- all the jokes where betty white saying "balls" and "lesbian"

J0rdan S., Sunday, 9 May 2010 05:14 (thirteen years ago) link

Fags at the gay bar were ecstatic over those gags. That's why I'm a homophobe.

hasn't Jay-Z been rapping about his 99 problems for about a decade? Wilco is about as exciting as that shit.

kind of shrill and very self-righteous (Dr Morbius), Sunday, 9 May 2010 05:15 (thirteen years ago) link

also, honestly didn't know Anglo comedians were still doing minstrel Latino shit. Someone tell Jerry Lewis to take his 'Asian' buck teeth out of mothballs.

morbs is hardbody

J0rdan S., Sunday, 9 May 2010 05:22 (thirteen years ago) link

maybe if Betty White had pointed out the ironies of American nuclear policies Morbs would've digged it more

Mordy, Sunday, 9 May 2010 05:22 (thirteen years ago) link

I'm just glad they didn't call her Sue Ann Nivens in the radio sketch.

(I guess cuz Nivens isn't a synonym for snatch)

Seriously all you guys that hated on Jay's last album loved that medley? I don't get you guys, he sounded 'meh' at best, when he wasn't all out of breath.

The digital short was k-classic!

Jay-Z's rap-metal medley was passable at best, I thought. It's pretty late in the game for him to be amping up and trying to broaden his audience - the dude already knows he runs this rap shit, so why try so hard? - and the constant fading in and out between songs was disruptive. There must have been as much awkward and self-defeating dead space as music. How can you show off your flow if your rhyming is so stop and go?

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 9 May 2010 14:24 (thirteen years ago) link

I mean, in retrospect this morning, props for trying something different but it didn't sound good at all most of the time and this "seriously, this performance just shit on all of network television" is just o_O

I love Betty White, but after a night of drinking and weed smoking, hearing about her "cherry" was a very sobering moment...

Heroin Kills (Brad Nowell's Soiled Undergarments), Sunday, 9 May 2010 16:02 (thirteen years ago) link

You guys are all incredibly pissy. This was funny/entertaining. It was kind of interesting seeing that the biggest difference between old Jay-Z and nu Jay-Z is syncopation.

it means "EMOTIONAL"! (HI DERE), Sunday, 9 May 2010 16:02 (thirteen years ago) link

I think it wasn't funny, although it wasn't at all due to Betty White, it was due to unfunny sketches.

Also MacGruber the movie is getting REALLY GOOD EARLY REVIEWS. WTF -- of all of SNL's movies, is this one going to be their Gunga Din?

Heroin Kills (Brad Nowell's Soiled Undergarments), Sunday, 9 May 2010 16:06 (thirteen years ago) link

thx for the deleted scenes link

Nhex, Sunday, 9 May 2010 21:00 (thirteen years ago) link

what does jay's newest album have at all to do with the performance? 80% of the album was 'the black album'

J0rdan S., Sunday, 9 May 2010 21:02 (thirteen years ago) link

er, 80% of the performance

J0rdan S., Sunday, 9 May 2010 21:03 (thirteen years ago) link

& anyway, jay has always been an amazing performer pretty much, and really he's only gotten better as he & his band have played more shows -- it was crazy to see him do "p.s.a" -- a song prob 20% of the tv audience knew, also the best song he's written in like 7 years -- and a huge part of the performance was not knowing that jay was gonna go on for 10 minutes & watching him transitioning between and teasing joints -- it was a completely thrilling performance and was more exciting than anything i've seen on network tv this year save for 30 rock

J0rdan S., Sunday, 9 May 2010 21:06 (thirteen years ago) link

seriously if you like "parks & recreation" and are trying to tell me that that jay performance wasn't the shit, just sell your TV and play chess all night

J0rdan S., Sunday, 9 May 2010 21:07 (thirteen years ago) link

what kind of a monster doesn't like maya rudolph though.

A B C, Sunday, 9 May 2010 21:27 (thirteen years ago) link

I suck at chess, though. :(

Hate to agree with Morbs on anything comedic, but that really was the funniest sketch of the lot. Really well written.

And I normally like vagina jokes.
