Fags at the gay bar were ecstatic over those gags. That's why I'm a homophobe.
hasn't Jay-Z been rapping about his 99 problems for about a decade? Wilco is about as exciting as that shit.

I'm just glad they didn't call her Sue Ann Nivens in the radio sketch.
(I guess cuz Nivens isn't a synonym for snatch)

Seriously all you guys that hated on Jay's last album loved that medley? I don't get you guys, he sounded 'meh' at best, when he wasn't all out of breath.
The digital short was k-classic!

Jay-Z's rap-metal medley was passable at best, I thought. It's pretty late in the game for him to be amping up and trying to broaden his audience - the dude already knows he runs this rap shit, so why try so hard? - and the constant fading in and out between songs was disruptive. There must have been as much awkward and self-defeating dead space as music. How can you show off your flow if your rhyming is so stop and go?

I mean, in retrospect this morning, props for trying something different but it didn't sound good at all most of the time and this "seriously, this performance just shit on all of network television" is just o_O

I love Betty White, but after a night of drinking and weed smoking, hearing about her "cherry" was a very sobering moment...

You guys are all incredibly pissy. This was funny/entertaining. It was kind of interesting seeing that the biggest difference between old Jay-Z and nu Jay-Z is syncopation.

I think it wasn't funny, although it wasn't at all due to Betty White, it was due to unfunny sketches.
Also MacGruber the movie is getting REALLY GOOD EARLY REVIEWS. WTF -- of all of SNL's movies, is this one going to be their Gunga Din?

what does jay's newest album have at all to do with the performance? 80% of the album was 'the black album'
― J0rdan S., Sunday, 9 May 2010 21:02 (fourteen years ago) link
er, 80% of the performance
― J0rdan S., Sunday, 9 May 2010 21:03 (fourteen years ago) link
& anyway, jay has always been an amazing performer pretty much, and really he's only gotten better as he & his band have played more shows -- it was crazy to see him do "p.s.a" -- a song prob 20% of the tv audience knew, also the best song he's written in like 7 years -- and a huge part of the performance was not knowing that jay was gonna go on for 10 minutes & watching him transitioning between and teasing joints -- it was a completely thrilling performance and was more exciting than anything i've seen on network tv this year save for 30 rock
― J0rdan S., Sunday, 9 May 2010 21:06 (fourteen years ago) link
seriously if you like "parks & recreation" and are trying to tell me that that jay performance wasn't the shit, just sell your TV and play chess all night

it seemed old school because it's a rip off of this old & much funnier sketch with christopher walken
http://www.hulu.com/watch/4165/saturday-night-live-census-taker
― J0rdan S., Monday, 10 May 2010 02:06 (fourteen years ago) link
For a guy who spent many years of his movie career playing a creep, Walken seems to make anything really hilarious when he tackles comedy.
― Heroin Kills (Brad Nowell's Soiled Undergarments), Monday, 10 May 2010 02:09 (fourteen years ago) link
The premise is ripped off, but the jokes and chemistry are totally diff.

the Walken thing is a very mildly amusing 'weird' sketch that I imagine has great appeal for bong holders.
Using the same premise is not "a ripoff."
― kind of shrill and very self-righteous (Dr Morbius), Monday, 10 May 2010 02:16 (fourteen years ago) link
It's more of an homage. The Walken sketch is way funnier, though. I mean, Walken. I love that sketch. "Boy, I really overshot it with that 80, didn't I?"

I laughed pretty hard at Maya Rudolph's Whitney Houston impersonation, especially the gravel voice when she tried to sing.
― it means "EMOTIONAL"! (HI DERE), Monday, 10 May 2010 13:38 (fourteen years ago) link
yeah i'd never seen that before, only wish she "sang" even more. It was a night of broad humor even for SNL (no pun intended!) but Betty White was great - shouldn't be as rare as it is that they have a host who can read cue cards without losing their timing. Also found it kinda lol there were so many female roles but the non-Wiig actresses currently on cast barely appeared - hopefully they were taking notes backstage.
