I have rabbit ears, and I have TV. They have special antennas that pick up digital broadcasts.

tv is broadcast digital, but it's still broadcast over the air. You don't need cable, but you need a converter box.

dan selzer, Monday, 17 May 2010 18:51 (thirteen years ago) link

Remember when most people had giant TV antennae on their roofs?

dan selzer, Monday, 17 May 2010 18:51 (thirteen years ago) link

See what I mean about not really thinking this through, Kenan?

Have a slice of wine! (HI DERE), Monday, 17 May 2010 18:52 (thirteen years ago) link

I don't pay for cable but I get TV. It comes in through the cables that give me internet.

Also, I like Kristen Wiig. I find her super funny. See Digital Short Extreme Challenge.

our marxist/ fascist government sent me $50 coupon last year for a digital converter box so i could continue using my rabbit ears

Pazuzu's petals (kenan), Monday, 17 May 2010 19:10 (thirteen years ago) link

I have probably already said this somewhere on this thread, but the one TV delivery system that makes this show 80 BILLION TIMES more likable is a DVR.

I was way more critical when I watched it on broadcast, because you're sitting there waiting through commercials for lousy sketches, and if they're really lousy there's that additional voice in your head reminding you that it's Saturday night and you're groaning through this lousy sketch instead of some awesome Saturday-night thing, and you kinda feel like the show should be taking better care of you.

Then I moved in with someone who had a DVR, and now I can come home late or wake up Sunday and make some eggs and fast-forward through musical guests I hate and just be like "yay, that one sketch was really funny."

oɔsıqɐu (nabisco), Monday, 17 May 2010 21:20 (thirteen years ago) link

I dunno, it's the opposite for me, if I'm watching the show it means I'm bored on saturday night and I'm sorta glad there's *something* to watch. got better things to do w/ sunday.

iatee, Monday, 17 May 2010 21:22 (thirteen years ago) link

xp - I mean, I'm not saying you should shell out for cable/DVR and all that -- if it were just me I'd probably have never bothered getting a digital converter and spent the rest of my life bitching about not seeing 30 Rock -- just saying BOY HOWDY does it make this show more enjoyable. (Maybe Hulu does too, but I have never entirely adjusted to the TV-on-computer thing.)

iatee, bored on Saturday night just = patiently waiting until 15 minutes into the show, so you have some fast-forwarding lead time

oɔsıqɐu (nabisco), Monday, 17 May 2010 21:24 (thirteen years ago) link

They should change the name of the show to Monday Morning Hulu.

no turkey unless it's a club sandwich (polyphonic), Monday, 17 May 2010 21:25 (thirteen years ago) link

personally i can usually tune out a bad sketch by dickin around on the computer for 3 mins or so but dvr/hulu is still nice sometimes

J0rdan S., Monday, 17 May 2010 21:26 (thirteen years ago) link

(wasn't there an explicit joke about that in Baldwin's monologue this week? "if you're watching this tonight ... or more likely watching it on Hulu Monday morning")

oɔsıqɐu (nabisco), Monday, 17 May 2010 21:27 (thirteen years ago) link

Yeah, there was, and it was pretty lol.

Alec Baldwin as the hateful swim coach almost made me cry.

Have a slice of wine! (HI DERE), Monday, 17 May 2010 21:28 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah that was a pretty funny sketch

J0rdan S., Monday, 17 May 2010 21:28 (thirteen years ago) link

I just came back to check if something had been mentioned, and Jaymc already got to it -- you know how they did the Broadview Security commercial a while back that was just straight-up lifted from Sarah Haskins? The whole tone of the Sally Field osteoporosis thing from this last one was basically the same, like basically repurposed Target: Women humor.

I can't tell if this is total shamelessness, mild "identifying a demand" shamelessness, or whether I just missed the news that they hired Haskins to do writing for them or something.

oɔsıqɐu (nabisco), Tuesday, 18 May 2010 22:13 (thirteen years ago) link

Unless she's contributing from L.A., she's not writing for them. But yeah, good call on that Sally Field bit -- I thought the same.

J0rdan S., Saturday, 28 August 2010 07:04 (thirteen years ago) link

also paul br1tta1n looks exactly like will forte, so that makes sense

J0rdan S., Saturday, 28 August 2010 07:04 (thirteen years ago) link

I wouldn't hate it if they're bringing in Vanessa Bayer to replace Jenny Slate, who is USELESS. Nasim Pedrad worked out, but I'm still mad that Slate was brought in to replace Michaela Watkins and/or Casey Wilson.

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 28 August 2010 07:07 (thirteen years ago) link

Seriously, I saw Paul when he was still going through classes at iO. I don't know him that well, but my friend Mark is tight with him. Saw him at Pitchfork Fest last month. Crazy.

Apparently SNL has picked up Jay Pharoah, who's a pretty killer impressionist: http://splitsider.com/2010/09/goodbye-armisens-obama-snl-hiring-jay-pharoah/

This Will Smith vs. Denzel Washington video is awes

Good, I was hoping Jenny Slate would be out.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 7 September 2010 19:36 (thirteen years ago) link

she was terrible, yet she gave me my biggest non-Kenan lols of the season

This is better than anything she -- or anyone else -- did on SNL last season:

AndersonCooperWakemanHowe (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Tuesday, 7 September 2010 19:52 (thirteen years ago) link

Slate seemed liked she sucked aside from the tina tina cheneuse sketches but I feel bad kicked out for the kids who get kicked out after one or two seasons, a lot of the people I like on the show took at least a couple of years to really find themselves and start being funny.

congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 7 September 2010 19:56 (thirteen years ago) link

That's kind of torturous. xp
