Hairstyle - 4

Richard Tunnicliffe, Thursday, 4 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Perhaps like the Marvel superheroes and supervillains set, there should be captains of industry in there too. MacGregor vs Scargill - the rematch!

Nick, Thursday, 4 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Obviously McGregor would have his ass whipped on the 'commitment to socialism' front, but if you threw in 'Government Support' or 'Sheer Evil' into the mix then we might have a contest.

Nick, Thursday, 4 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I sense a project!

which other trade unionists?

the bloke from Fords at Dagenham in the seventies? red someone.

on the industrialists you've gotta have maxwell and eddie shah

chris, Thursday, 4 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I think you might be thinking of Red Robbo, but wasn't he a Leyland worker?

Richard Tunnicliffe, Thursday, 4 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Murdoch's got to be in there as well.

Richard Tunnicliffe, Thursday, 4 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

He's got to be the equivalent of Galactacus.

Nick, Thursday, 4 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Sorry - Galactus

Nick, Thursday, 4 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

m jemmeson, Thursday, 4 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Where's that website that tells you how to play phone box calling card ladies trumps? That sounds ace to me, though perhaps I ought not encourage my fondness for these cards.

two years pass...
I am still looking for this. I guess I always will be.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 10 November 2003 01:28 (twenty years ago) link

bah! i thought when this thread had reappeared that you had finally found them :(

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 10 November 2003 10:08 (twenty years ago) link

Top trumps are a british thing?

Coolest trading cards I've ever seen: the "history of the soviet union" set. Cards like The 5 Year Plans, Forced Collectivisation, Marx, Lenin, October 17, etc. Wonderful painterly illustrations on them too.

sucka (sucka), Monday, 10 November 2003 17:34 (twenty years ago) link

I cracked the reason I could never find these on eBay – they were not actually called Nuclear Weapons Top Trumps. They were called Missiles & Rockets, it's just that many of those featured were known for carrying nuclear warheads.

In other news:

An Italian toy maker has caused controversy by unveiling models of the atomic bombs dropped on Japan.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 11:38 (eighteen years ago) link

Coincidentally, also in Ananova's quirkies for today:

Kinky Top Trumps

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 11:40 (eighteen years ago) link

Their logic is that it serves to remind people about the bombs. The forums have a bit of discussion on www.brumm.it. If the proceeds were to an anti-nuclear charity or similar I would consider buying them. They look quite alright as well which is so bad to admit!

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 12:23 (eighteen years ago) link

As far as I can see, Kinky Top Trumps looks rather vanilla given its name.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 12:29 (eighteen years ago) link

Brumm unveiled its [...] model bombs at the Nuremberg toy fair.

Nice timing, lads.

JimD (JimD), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 13:15 (eighteen years ago) link

i wonder if those models have the "have a nice day!!!" "USA roolz" graffiti all over them too.

"Since German Joseph Ratzinger became Benedict XVI, popes have become sort of hip. Young people are taking a renewed interest in church leaders as you could see at the World Youth Day in Cologne last year"

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 14:00 (eighteen years ago) link

so DID YOU FIND A SET THEN???

today has been a day for correcting mistaken beliefs (i did not see this revival in february), today i realised that Guy Chambers (robbie williams' songwriter) WASN'T in londonbeat after all, he was called JIMMY Chambers...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 14:49 (eighteen years ago) link

It also comes with four candles to add a serene atmosphere while playing.

You can't give candles to children! They're like gay fireworks!!

If anyone can tell me whether a 2-stage solid rocket beats an air breathing turbine that would be helpful.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 20 April 2006 08:33 (eighteen years ago) link

Excellent work.

I looked at my Top Trumps the other day, to see if there was any mention of Nuclear Weapons Top Trumps. There was not, leading me to doubt NickyNoo's sanity.

Ace Trumps - were they for squares?

I have got BRITISH FOOTBALLERS.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Thursday, 20 April 2006 08:39 (eighteen years ago) link

hurray, switch the internet off now, it has no more uses!!

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 20 April 2006 08:40 (eighteen years ago) link

Very true.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Thursday, 20 April 2006 08:41 (eighteen years ago) link

Haha yes, I did have the missiles top trumps set. I think Polaris may have been the daddy (like Death in the horror top trumps).

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 20 April 2006 09:09 (eighteen years ago) link

Nah, this was the daddy:

I am frightened of Euromissile "Roland".

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 06:03 (seventeen years ago) link

Huh. Those rocket Trumps look familiar now. My cousin had some but I think his were all motorbike Top Trumps.

Did anyone ever actually play stuff with them, Magic the Gathering style? I mean is that what one *did*? Or was it just for showing-offs and trading and such?

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 06:08 (seventeen years ago) link

I had British footballer ones too. And something which involved fast vehicles, cars and planes and stuff. Andrews Air Force Base and Daytona Beach will always be synonymous with beating my brothers at Top Trumps now.

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 06:21 (seventeen years ago) link

i wnat to play yu-gi-oh!

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 11:25 (seventeen years ago) link

Trayce, yes they were for playing with. it's a v simple game though, you pick one of the categories eg range, then the person with the best score adds the others cards to the bottom of their pile, turns the next one over and it starts again.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 12:22 (seventeen years ago) link

You make it sound a bit boring.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 12:40 (seventeen years ago) link
