relax. music is cool.

he's right tho. often have i had the urge to wage revolution on my capitalist masters but instead found the solace and peace in Poison. Were it not for their honied ballads I surely would've rebelled.

Warrant is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people.

I can't shake the impression that

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2304/2269404604_3d8da0fd68.jpg

is to shallow trendy emo kids, as

http://cdn.pitchfork.com/media/wavves.jpeg

is to shallow trendy hipsters.

Just my impression- I hope nobody who enjoys it here takes offense to that.

Not sure, the image was posted on another thread, but they seem to represent pretty much every one I've seen.

I feel like the only possible response to that is "This article does not make any valid points or is even based on logical thinking. I'm sorry but I can't believe this is the Washington Post."

if you've exclusively lived live in indie rock clubs and Warp Tour venues, and have someone else drive you from one to the other so that you can close your eyes while you're in transit, then that statement could make total sense

Your review is so far outside the realms of reality (ksh), Thursday, 1 July 2010 15:49 (thirteen years ago) link

take two:

if you've exclusively lived in indie rock clubs and Warp Tour venues, and you've exclusively had someone else drive you from one to the other so that you can close your eyes while you're in transit, then that statement could make total sense

Your review is so far outside the realms of reality (ksh), Thursday, 1 July 2010 15:50 (thirteen years ago) link

I saw that on the wavves thread. I'm not sure what he means, because he says one picture of young people is analogous to another picture of young people, but doesn't say anything about music except that he associates the top picture with kids who listen to emo music and the bottom picture with kids who listen to ??skate punk?? ??indie??. If you lived in an indie club, you'd probably see a lot more variety among the clientele than that picture indicates, so it isn't too accurate by ksh's estimate or Evan's, but what was I trying to say again? I need breakfast. I think I was just saying that the exchange doesn't seem wtf-worthy on a subboard.

bamcquern, Thursday, 1 July 2010 16:07 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah, that was more confusing than enlightening, and not confusing enough to be wtf-worthy

guys on rolling metal were seriously discussing how to facilitate a particular poll and whether or not the poll should be made for like 30 posts

man i just really really hate polls at this point. (not counting goofy polls to start some fun discussion)

latebloomer, Sunday, 18 July 2010 10:56 (thirteen years ago) link

and by goofy polls i of course exclusively mean polls related to the beloved disney character

seriously, every time i've asked people what they like so much about michael jackson i'm never swayed by the reasoning. they usually say something to the effect of "he's a good dancer". well for starters that has nothing to do with his music and secondly i really have no interest in men who dance well.

(2) One day in 1987, two 12-year-old girls in the aisle at Cala Supermarket on Mission Street were chanting "I met a guy, his name was Tussy/Took him to my house and he ate my pussy." This was a takeoff on Too $hort's "Freaky Tales" (or perhaps this chant and "Freaky Tales" have a common ancestor). Same questions: Are the girls being objective when they sing "Took him to my house and he ate my pussy"? Are they being subjective? Are they describing "Freaky Tales" on its own terms? Are they creating a unified reading of the work?

altho i have been wondering what it means that we had a good 900 post revive about a rap album that didn't devolve into deej & whiney bitching at each other endlessly

i feel like maybe they should have to take turns in being banned from alternating rap threads

i know for a fact that the yelawolf thread would've all driven us to suicide if whiney wasn't banned
