I still find his voice unpleasant, but at least he's not talking about sex.

2nd Black President (The Reverend), Monday, 10 November 2008 02:51 (fifteen years ago) link

i think it goes without saying that plies should be rapping over creeping, booming beats instead of keyboard heavy pop stuff and that he should be using his voice to spit guttural threats instead of gross come-ons but im still surprised at how good that song is

barack husession (J0rdan S.), Monday, 10 November 2008 02:52 (fifteen years ago) link

-new Prodigy is awesome, brooding, murky. A+ will bump again.
-new Q-Tip has its moments

yeah, Product Of The 80s is pretty dope. wasn't really thinking about picking up the Q-Tip, as much as a I love Tribe, but I keep hearing good things so maybe I should.

The stic.man from the hilarious 'Dead Prez' albums (some dude), Wednesday, 12 November 2008 13:52 (fifteen years ago) link

9 tracks of 11 tracks 808s and Heartbreak leak is :) :D :O XD ;_;

Whiney G. Weingarten, Wednesday, 12 November 2008 14:52 (fifteen years ago) link

the more i hear songs from that the less i can understand how that stuff can sound good to anyone. even the production is pretty flat.

The stic.man from the hilarious 'Dead Prez' albums (some dude), Wednesday, 12 November 2008 15:01 (fifteen years ago) link

i think the production is flat because people are ripping them from Youtubes and shitty leaks and yelling "ExtravaggggggggGANGSTA RADIOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" on them

Whiney G. Weingarten, Wednesday, 12 November 2008 15:05 (fifteen years ago) link

maybe flat was the wrong word, but just cheap, cheesy, poor choices in drum and synth sounds. dude's beats have always sounded somewhat naked w/out samples but these just sound bad, and he's either got a really cheap version of AutoTune or he's putting a filter on it that makes it sound shitty.

The stic.man from the hilarious 'Dead Prez' albums (some dude), Wednesday, 12 November 2008 15:12 (fifteen years ago) link

that's exactly what i like about it though. It's very vulnerable and naked. I almost think it's a double standard that bombastic hip-hop types can't be stripped down and introspective and lo-fi. It's like calling Nebraska "shitty-sounding."

Whiney G. Weingarten, Wednesday, 12 November 2008 15:15 (fifteen years ago) link

if the other two tracks are like the 9 I heard, then this will be top 5 for me for sure.

Whiney G. Weingarten, Wednesday, 12 November 2008 15:16 (fifteen years ago) link

ehh, I might agree if I thought he was making writing songs that were actually thoguhtful and introspective, not just hooting "you looooose" and "how could you be so Dr. Evil?" at some poor girl that put up with his infantile shit for years.

The stic.man from the hilarious 'Dead Prez' albums (some dude), Wednesday, 12 November 2008 15:22 (fifteen years ago) link

you're def right about him being a misogynistic emo crybaby, but I just see that as Kanye's version of cleansing. I'm not always on his side, but it's great watching him vent. I don't have to agree with Ice Cube talking about burning down a Korean grocery either.

Whiney G. Weingarten, Wednesday, 12 November 2008 15:36 (fifteen years ago) link

All I know is I agree with eskay's opinion on "Tell Everybody That You Know" that, "the Weezy “verse” on this is inexcusable." I mean come on. Dude's brain is clearly syrup mush at this point. And I thought that was the case six months ago.

http://nahright.com/news/2008/11/11/kanye-west-ft-lil-wayne-tell-everybody-that-you-know/

matt2, Wednesday, 12 November 2008 16:19 (fifteen years ago) link

did you honestly just compare emo autotune kanye to death certificate-era cube? are you off your fuckin meds??

and what, Wednesday, 12 November 2008 16:21 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah death certificate is one of the GOATS.

but i think whiney means disagreeing w/the message, not the quality.

btw, are there any Swagga Like Us remixes out there? Cuz i love that track so much, i'd like to hear some good rapping over it (TI excepted)

M@tt He1ges0n, Wednesday, 12 November 2008 16:26 (fifteen years ago) link

haven't heard that one yet, but is it actually worse than his "Can't Believe It" verse? if so, wow. xp

The stic.man from the hilarious 'Dead Prez' albums (some dude), Wednesday, 12 November 2008 16:29 (fifteen years ago) link

product of the 80s - listened once and deleted

sweet thx!

M@tt He1ges0n, Wednesday, 12 November 2008 16:33 (fifteen years ago) link

i've seen a lot of SLU freestyles out there but mostly by guys i wouldn't really care to hear -- rick ross, chamillionaire, tony yayo, etc. the diddy version is pretty bad.

The stic.man from the hilarious 'Dead Prez' albums (some dude), Wednesday, 12 November 2008 16:36 (fifteen years ago) link

btw i dont care if youre talkin bout "agreeing with the message" or whatever its still a bad look to put shitty new kanye joints up against death certificate

and what, Wednesday, 12 November 2008 16:37 (fifteen years ago) link

i hate these korean grocers more than the nazis

The stic.man from the hilarious 'Dead Prez' albums (some dude), Wednesday, 12 November 2008 16:38 (fifteen years ago) link

I mean, yeah, obvs. Death Certificate >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> anything Kanye ever did.

But I mean, I think if this album takes off, we could be seeing a similar sea change in what it's OK to rap about, and, in this case, even what constitutes a rap song.

Whiney G. Weingarten, Wednesday, 12 November 2008 16:40 (fifteen years ago) link

Rappers should never go to Europe.

every soulja boy single charts like 30 spots below the previous one + this is no worse or better than "marco polo" which basically flopped

myspace password secretary (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 12 November 2008 18:59 (fifteen years ago) link

kanye in trite lyrics shocker, but i think every song i've heard has at least one awesome quality about it, be it the keyboard on "heartless" or the drums on "love lockdown" or the house-ish beat on the one w/ kid cudi

Trick Trick to allhiphop.com: “I’ma go on the record right now with this. Homosexuals are probably not gonna like this album. I don’t want your f**got money any goddamn way. I don’t like it [homosexuality]. Carry that s**t somewhere else.”
