Fuck, I've left it too late again

Madchen (Madchen), Thursday, 30 September 2004 12:46 (nineteen years ago) link

They can do 5pm or 10pm. Should we try another day?

Madchen (Madchen), Thursday, 30 September 2004 12:47 (nineteen years ago) link

hate glasgow trendy shit hole
only good thing is sexy jack from Jack & Victor

jane aeternus, Thursday, 30 September 2004 12:49 (nineteen years ago) link

watching 'ae fond kiss' I was lots homesick.

cºzen (Cozen), Thursday, 30 September 2004 12:51 (nineteen years ago) link

Cozen, come for pizza. Or just come back.

Madchen (Madchen), Thursday, 30 September 2004 12:54 (nineteen years ago) link

so do the glasgow folks have any opinions on this http://www.popmatters.com/features/tttp/2robertson.shtml

H (Heruy), Thursday, 30 September 2004 13:28 (nineteen years ago) link

We could try somewhere else, maybe?

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 30 September 2004 15:51 (nineteen years ago) link

I'm all in favour of Scotland With Style, Hare, mainly because I fancied the woman in the posters. However, I am also in favour of David Shirgley, who made that notice. I don't know if I am in favour of the SECC. What do others think?

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 30 September 2004 15:57 (nineteen years ago) link

I'm not in favour of people who write Glasgowian rather than Glaswegian then expect me to take their writing seriously.

I quite like the Armadillo, but I'm not sure about the Science Centre. However if you go up Govan Road heading from Paisley Road Toll towards Govan, there is a point of view where the IMAX, the Science Centre and the stupid tower that doesn't work are immensely phallic-looking.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 30 September 2004 16:07 (nineteen years ago) link

scotland with style: no

david shrigley: yes

secc: no

science centre: why not?

I thought they fixed the stupid tower.

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 30 September 2004 16:20 (nineteen years ago) link

I think it broke again.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 30 September 2004 16:25 (nineteen years ago) link

every time they fix it?

I had no idea, that you had such powers.

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 30 September 2004 16:27 (nineteen years ago) link

They are think of putting it on a plinth, and installing CCTV, to stop me breaking it.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 30 September 2004 16:29 (nineteen years ago) link

What no pizza? Surely, there is another place?

I like the SECC.

Is "Ae Fond Kiss" good, cozen? It looked kind of schmalzy and cliché-ridden from the trailer. Where have you gone that isn't Glasgow? You should come back, and stop all this other-places nonsense.

Cathy (Cathy), Thursday, 30 September 2004 16:47 (nineteen years ago) link

I love you, glasgow.

cºzen (Cozen), Thursday, 30 September 2004 17:29 (nineteen years ago) link

I would like to know about 'Ae Fond Kiss' too, because I thought the trailer looked rubbish and then at the end it said, 'Ken Loach'.

I didn't know Glasgow had an IMAX. I hope it has special 'regional' programming.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Thursday, 30 September 2004 18:20 (nineteen years ago) link

The Daily Record are giving away a free DVD of Gregory's Girl with Saturday's paper. This is the second best reason to buy the Record (the best being the slim chance that 96 and Madchen may be in the food review section photo again).

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 30 September 2004 18:24 (nineteen years ago) link

Can someone get me one, please? I'll swap it for a Maidenhead Advertiser with a voucher for McDonald's.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Thursday, 30 September 2004 18:26 (nineteen years ago) link

"slim"

"96"

Mooro (Mooro), Thursday, 30 September 2004 18:30 (nineteen years ago) link

I will buy that, for myself. presuming they have it, here, here.

I always cry at endings.

I always cry at ken loach films too, it doesn't mean they're not right.

'ae fond kiss and then we sever...

and to see her was to love her,
to love but her and her forever.

ae fond kiss and then we sever...'

it was my gran's favourite poem, it is poignant for me.

cºzen (Cozen), Thursday, 30 September 2004 18:31 (nineteen years ago) link

Oh, would someone get me one too? I will exchange for a bottle of Danzka Vodka, a striped scarf and some binoculars....

Lara (Lara), Thursday, 30 September 2004 18:33 (nineteen years ago) link

Hmmm, vodka or crappy local paper? Tough call. Multiple purchase of Daily Record on Saturday methinks.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 30 September 2004 18:36 (nineteen years ago) link

That was a half-arsed bribe for Ally as I have a bottle here that I have owed him since, say, January. What could I buy you Ailsa?

Lara (Lara), Thursday, 30 September 2004 18:41 (nineteen years ago) link

Is that the bottle of Danzka I bought Ally for his birthday last year then Lara?

You don't need to buy me anything. It's like 40 pence or something.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 30 September 2004 18:42 (nineteen years ago) link

Um........ We accosted him in the middle of the night! His defences were low! He seemed angry but we persisted! *Kirsten has to take some of the blame for this too*

Lara (Lara), Thursday, 30 September 2004 18:46 (nineteen years ago) link

I agree with PJ Miller, about Loach.

I like what Cookie said: 'Making Movies' (1980)! Class!

I like RJG, also.

the bellefox, Thursday, 30 September 2004 18:47 (nineteen years ago) link

(Also, I told him I'd get him a replacement bottle, which I could locate neither in Glasgow in the limited time I still had there or in Dublin when I got home. I ended up getting a Danish friend to mail me a bottle from Copenhagen. I thought I'd just hand it over next time I was across but I've been lazy at trying glasgow this year.)

Lara (Lara), Thursday, 30 September 2004 18:49 (nineteen years ago) link

The scary thing about this thread is, how it's alive, and people keep posting to it, at the same time!

the bellefox, Thursday, 30 September 2004 18:49 (nineteen years ago) link

I have not tried Glasgow since, like, 2.1.2004 or sth, la.

the bluefox, Thursday, 30 September 2004 18:50 (nineteen years ago) link

Crosspost

If only they were as good at FAPing!

PF - my record is way worse this year and I have been in Edinburgh, which makes it almost shameful.

Danzka is expensive - Ailsa is very good present buyer. Official.

Lara (Lara), Thursday, 30 September 2004 18:52 (nineteen years ago) link

We have FAPped. We have also FAIRed (Fancy An Indian Restaurant) for Vicky and Cabbage, which was quite impressive.

(I meant that the Daily Record was 40p by the way, not the vodka, in case there was any confusion. I bought the vodka in Spain, to where I shall be returning shortly. I shall buy some there this time too, I think. Come to Glasgow, Lara, and you can have some!)

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 30 September 2004 19:06 (nineteen years ago) link

Glasgow and booze - a marriage made in heaven!

Lara (Lara), Thursday, 30 September 2004 19:11 (nineteen years ago) link

I spedread that as 'Glasgow and boobs' and agreed wholeheartedly.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 30 September 2004 19:12 (nineteen years ago) link

'spedread'

the bellefox, Thursday, 30 September 2004 19:13 (nineteen years ago) link

I thought it was too cold to whop em out. Have you become more racy since I last saw you?

Lara (Lara), Thursday, 30 September 2004 19:15 (nineteen years ago) link

(I spedread 'speadread' as 'bedspread'.)

Lara (Lara), Thursday, 30 September 2004 19:16 (nineteen years ago) link

'spedtyped'

Mooro (Mooro), Thursday, 30 September 2004 19:17 (nineteen years ago) link

Have you become more racy since I last saw you?

I think so.

I thought about 'speedread', but rejected it on syylistic grounds.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 30 September 2004 19:19 (nineteen years ago) link

syyl boy

Mooro (Mooro), Thursday, 30 September 2004 19:20 (nineteen years ago) link

special 'regional' programming="spider-man", at the moment.

I wish they'd show "crocodile dundee" or, even, "crocodile dundee 2". not that I've been to the IMAX or the science centre or the southside.

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 30 September 2004 19:48 (nineteen years ago) link

(Southern readers might be unaware that the whole Crocodile Dundee trilogy was shot on brownfield sites on the outskirts of Glasgow)

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 30 September 2004 19:54 (nineteen years ago) link

Paris, Texas was shot in Pollockshaws, which gave Sharleen Spiteri the idea.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 30 September 2004 19:56 (nineteen years ago) link

and travis?

"taxi driver" was set originally going to be in dundee, wasn't it?

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 30 September 2004 20:02 (nineteen years ago) link

I think so, but I can't remember why they changed it. Googling comes up with nothing.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 30 September 2004 20:03 (nineteen years ago) link

'Bickle'

Mooro (Mooro), Thursday, 30 September 2004 20:04 (nineteen years ago) link

Oh, OK. Apparently it was because all the Dundee catering firms were already booked for the 'All The President's Men' shoot (which ironically was originally set in Inverness).

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 30 September 2004 20:06 (nineteen years ago) link

What the fuck happened to the Scottish film industry?

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 30 September 2004 20:07 (nineteen years ago) link

Local hero today, gone tomorrow

Mooro (Mooro), Thursday, 30 September 2004 20:09 (nineteen years ago) link

"the taxi driver" was a comic strip character who originally appeared in the beano. his strip only ran for six weeks but that is where paul schrader, a big broons fan, first came across him.

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 30 September 2004 20:14 (nineteen years ago) link

There's quite a big Schrader/DC Thomson connection. 'Cat People' was his attempt at a noir update of Korky the Cat, I believe.
