not sure about that re. video chat, though on a mobile I tend to agree (and maybe that's what you're saying); but lately Skype video chats have been the thing, professionally, for me, even with old folks---something's changing wrt the idea of bothering to do a vchat at least

i had an "academic guest" pass or something in 2006, but couldn't get the money for the flight together. i do still have my official CDROM of the OS X developer preview though.
