FYI this is what happens when Kenan shaves his face
I did that about an hour after posting, "Razors are not that tricky." Instant karma's gonna get you.

Wait back up to the shaving shaft bit again: am I missing something here or is there a suggestion of hair on the actual penis? Because um, ... what?

on the lower quarter-to-a-third of a hirsute man's prick, are found a few stray hairs. it happens.

Yeah, if you can't handle talk on pubic hair, don't read ILTMI. It's always kinda sad to see threads like this which start with a decent discussion, and then fall back into "Omigod, a penis!" jokes. Less jokes and more proper talk, please.
― Tuomas, Sunday, 11 July 2010 09:02 (thirteen years ago) link
This tendency for women to shave off or wax all their pubic hair is kind of interesting. Not so long ago a man interested in that would have been deemed a bit creepy - I wonder when it started - about ten years ago? I don't think it's explanatory enough simply to say that it's due to porn going mainstream, because women in porn didn't shave until - I don't know, I'm no expert, but the late nineties or so? Certainly Madonna in her Sex book in the early nineties is not shaven. Why did porn suddenly not like female pubic hair?
― Zelda Zonk, Sunday, 11 July 2010 09:14 (thirteen years ago) link
I'm not an expert on the subject either, but I think it has to do something with porn becoming more extreme, wanting to "show it all" in extreme closeups, etc. And obviously it's easier to show it all if there's no pubic hair. In the old porn movies I've seen, there's much less of "spreading the pussy" type of closeup shots. I think I've read some article on porn history that said this "extreme" trend began around the 80s and early 90s. And Madonna is not a good example because she's not a porn actress, therefore she probably followed mainstream trends and not porn trends when it comes to shaving.
I'm not saying that porn explains it all, certainly there could have been trends that effected shaving both in porn and mainstream society, but I do think shaved vaginas became prevalent in porn several years before it happened more widely in Western societies, and the mainstreaming of porn is probably at least a partial explanation to this wider phenomenon.

not sure why some ppl think it's 'creepy' for a woman to shave her vag - the 'ew it's so pre-pubescent' is pretty bullshit, since it's widely acceptable (and mostly preferable) for women to shave their armpits and legs. in my experience guys like shaved vag for the same reasons: it's cleaner, fresher, feels nicer, is better for oral sex and is more visually stimulating.

According to Wikipedia, the Brazilian became popular/widely-known amongst "the average person" in the late 80s, which jibes with my memories of people making Brazilian wax jokes in high school.
Wikipedia also has a handy visual guide to different wax jobs; it is probably for the best that guys don't do this as all of them would look silly next to a penis (esp. the landing strip; no one wants a dick with fuzzy racing stripes).

this is all kinda crazy subjective stuff here - I mean - if people enjoy shaving their parts, hey, more power to 'em, but "cleaner"? a shower's a shower; "feels nicer" - mileage varies obv; "better for oral sex" & "more visually stimulating" - you'll find plenty of people of both genders who'll disagree on both counts. but I don't think it's creepy for a woman to shave it! just for dudes to think there's something gross about woman parts that have hair on them - a dude for whom the vagina in its natural state seems a thing in need of grooming/improvement, is a dude creeps me out a little, is all

in my experience it totally depends on the woman, some gals have outta control thistle and need to take advantage of some hedge trimmers and some others don't have to worry as much. I don't think there's any absolute here. I, in my personal quest for the cup, would rather a clean shot from the fringe rather than hacking through the weeds. all imho fuiud.

Not grossed out by pubes at all btw. Then again I'm not hairy at all (like anywhere except my head) and guess I've never really been anyone who has been ott hirsute. Maybe I would feel differently if I had. I mean this, for instance, is sorta out of control: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/8/80/Woman_with_hirsutism.jpg/230px-Woman_with_hirsutism.jpg.

also to counter tuomas' blame porn thing i think the increased expectation for both sexes to keep things ~manageable~ is a result of it being more conventional/normal for dudes to go down on women, maybe? like it just seems like common courtesy to keep things trimmed, if you want oral sex
― Lamp, Sunday, 11 July 2010 17:53 (thirteen years ago) link
Guys I don't think JD is saying he minds trimming, shaving, what have you but that he thinks it's a little strange when guys INSIST on a woman being completely bare. I mean, I've taken it all off at someone's request before but he wasn't insistent on it. I have, however, met guys who think that any hair at all is completely gross and I have to say that I do agree that that is at least a little odd.
