San Francisco and what to do in it

I'm going to Boris from Uva's new place, Citizen's Band, tonight.

If you like to eat at new places and are interested in what Steve Shasta thinks is the one of the top 3 restaurants in the Bay Area, you should definitely try to get a reservation for Benu before it books up 90 days out (which honestly probably won't take long). I did a soft-opening menu tasting and a proper 4-seating 3 hour affair and I'd say this is up there with Ron Siegel and Thomas Keller's best. It's a *little* bit pricy but is an ideal special occasion place.

I would like to dispute It's Tops being cool.

I am always curious about what Steve Shasta thinks are good eats.

m.white. Citizen's Band is a block from my place. my wife worked briefly at Pinkie's Bakery (connected next door), but it didn't work out due to schedule conflicts. i'm stoked that area is getting more stuff. another 'micro-hood' - folsoma

we went to that underground market last week, and then tried to have drinks at citizen's band, but it was fuckin BONKERS inside

Boris invited us to the opening but I had other plans and I've heard it's small and swamped.

Where Two used to be, kinda near Moscone. Same block as culinary juggernauts Chevy's and Thirsty Bear.

Citizen's band was good. Pinkie's bread was amazing - they made a levain that tasted kind of like Poulain.

As long as all this talk is going on -- will be back Labor Day weekend for the On Land Festival. Evenings are out but otherwise open for whatever during the afternoons.

EMB used to be hella sketch before the 89 earthquake and the Freeway ran down off the bridge onto Broadway. Farmer's Market area was more like black tar and freebaser's delight.
Marina used to be more family-oriented and Italian before the quake. Maybe some southern eye-talian goombahs were throwing signs.

Yeah, the Marina was different prior to the quake. You can kind of see glimpses of it on Chestnut.

Thank God the Embarcadero freeway was condemened.

seriously, that 'hood is like the most under-repped hood in the city, and it is a shame, because there's some great stuff down there. i loved living there, despite hellish commute.

xp - depends on the night of the week - there are places i'd recommend for a weeknight crawl that i'd advise steering clear of on weekends because of covers and douche factors.

start at the Phonebooth, then go up to the Lone Palm, then cross back down to Shotwell's, then go to the Uptown, then end the night at Zeitgeist.

Doc's Clock is pretty great, too (also in the mission) - will definitely rep for the Uptown

tbh id say just go to lone palm, have a nice drink, then go to phonebooth, get ripped, go buy a loosie cig from shotwell's, and go home and watch next food network star instead of zeitgeist. never been to the uptown?
