uh, we still doing this, guys?

her breath came in short pants (sciolism), Sunday, 1 August 2010 22:48 (thirteen years ago) link

i'd be very interested in getting involved with this, just started shooting RAW...
please to advise...

not_goodwin, Sunday, 1 August 2010 22:55 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah - I'm trying to figure out how to divvy up the postprocessing. thinking about randomly assigning everybody 3 photos to postprocess - that way, there won't be *that* much work. on the other hand, we have 9 entries right now (11 if we include not_goodwin and gbx, whenever he gets around to sending one in!) - so maybe the load won't be *that* great. thoughts?

I'll e-mail everybody who's sent one in the password tonight

(sorry, we probably should have chosen a more organized person to do this! heh heh)

not_goodwin - just send a photo you'd like to see postprocessed by others to ilp✧✧✧@gm✧✧✧.c✧✧ (pref. RAW)

dyao, Sunday, 1 August 2010 23:01 (thirteen years ago) link

I'm happy to have a bash at 8 (or 10) images by others. It's usually quick and dirty Lightroom work with me anyway.

Michael Jones, Sunday, 1 August 2010 23:03 (thirteen years ago) link

oh wait i can't postprocess anything i just submitted a couple crappy pics.

"It's far from 'lol' you were reared, boy" (darraghmac), Monday, 2 August 2010 02:53 (thirteen years ago) link

8-10 isn't too many for me, either, and I think it would be interesting to see everyone's interpretations of all the images.

Perhaps one post on here with all the base JPGs, then each of us could post up our versions on Flickr/PBucket/etc. (with proper attributions, etc. - and maybe we could all take them down off Flickr in a couple of weeks?).

Is there an ILXor Flickr group? That might streamline the posting process.

a cross between lily allen and fetal alcohol syndrome (milo z), Monday, 2 August 2010 05:34 (thirteen years ago) link

no, but I could make one...

will download all the files tonight, compile them into a zip and upload to mediafire, and e-mail everybody the link.

I looked into giving everybody the password to either a dropbox or gmail account but it looks like it's against the ToS and the account could get shutdown if they detect too many logins at once. \(O_o)/

dyao, Monday, 2 August 2010 11:37 (thirteen years ago) link

Sounds good. ILX Flickr pool also a good idea. Shall we all stick to sRGB, considering the difficulties most browsers have with colour management? Or maybe we don't need to worry about subtleties like that.

Michael Jones, Monday, 2 August 2010 11:58 (thirteen years ago) link

There is an ilxor group on Flickr http://www.flickr.com/groups/ilxor/
I kind of think this should still have it's own group, or maybe ILPhotography should have it's own group.

treefell, Monday, 2 August 2010 12:00 (thirteen years ago) link

hey guys sorry i've been out of town at a wedding (where i got some good shots, i think)

still don't know how to send raw?

pies. (gbx), Monday, 2 August 2010 19:30 (thirteen years ago) link

did you shoot them as RAW? if not you can juts send the JPG

I downloaded, zipped, and uploaded the files to mediafire, check your inboxes everybody

dyao, Monday, 2 August 2010 21:46 (thirteen years ago) link

I'm done! That was a fun way to spend an hour. I've realised that I can't see a sky without graduating the flip out of it. Let me know where to put my processed JPEGs. Milo Z's was the real challenge, I think (I suspect deliberately so) - not sure I rose to it. I didn't process my own photo - was I supposed to?

Michael Jones, Monday, 2 August 2010 22:58 (thirteen years ago) link

Have just had a look, will have a go with them tomorrow.

I can't see a sky without graduating the flip out of it
Ha, even when i'm out shooting, i think about it, "oh i'll grad it later"

I didn't process my own photo - was I supposed to?
i wouldn't have thought so, but i'm not in charge so...?

not_goodwin, Monday, 2 August 2010 23:18 (thirteen years ago) link

Yeah, that's a photo of my grandfather in the worst possible lighting. Nothing I've done with it has made me happy.

a cross between lily allen and fetal alcohol syndrome (milo z), Monday, 2 August 2010 23:36 (thirteen years ago) link

it's not really a competition is it! let me see if I can create an ILX ILP flickr group, and if we can organize group submissions by sets

should we upload them as we finish, or set a deadline for a grand unveiling?

dyao, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 02:50 (thirteen years ago) link

I vote upload as finished - that way no one feels hurried for the grand unveiling.

I, too, am done. I feel like this showed me some of my weaknesses as a post-processor - I'm fairly competent with curves, the histogram and how to work with the color sliders for B&W and a few technical bits, but when it comes to things like graduating skies without looking terrible I'm pretty weak. Lightroom has gotten so complicated and feature-packed, I should probably read a book or take an online course or something.

a cross between lily allen and fetal alcohol syndrome (milo z), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 03:00 (thirteen years ago) link

I've created a flickr group but apparently you can't divide group pool submissions by sets

dyao, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 03:04 (thirteen years ago) link

oh wait - I think I can start topics/threads for each person and everybody can post that person's picture to that thread

dyao, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 03:11 (thirteen years ago) link

dyao, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 03:13 (thirteen years ago) link

yo gbx you should submit your pix whenever

dyao, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 03:17 (thirteen years ago) link

got to be honest man,

without a polling/voting option here ur thread is looking v shabby next to the competition.

step it up

yr friend

Sorry guys know mine is corny, have never been satisfied with my results with it

LA river flood (lukas), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 04:44 (thirteen years ago) link

Good stuff. My efforts are in the group but I have to dash to work so can't contribute to the discussion threads until tonight...I doubt I can remember precisely what I did to each image without Lightroom reminding me.

Michael Jones, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 06:42 (thirteen years ago) link

i guess we should do our own thang before checking out how others have done it, huh.

ledge, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 08:20 (thirteen years ago) link

lol 'Saving Private Ryan' sheep OTM- good job whoever that was :)

"It's far from 'lol' you were reared, boy" (darraghmac), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 10:01 (thirteen years ago) link

I'm done, few crops here and there and some messing with colours and B&W's too.

not_goodwin, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 10:54 (thirteen years ago) link

Argh, gutted I missed this.

Captain Ostensible (Scik Mouthy), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 12:41 (thirteen years ago) link

it's not too late? e-mail your pic to ilpilx at gmail

dyao, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 12:45 (thirteen years ago) link

Will send something tonight when I get home.

Captain Ostensible (Scik Mouthy), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 12:52 (thirteen years ago) link

job done. full confession - a fair bit of preset usage, albeit with further tweaking (except for one where i hit the button and it looked too good to mess with any more).

ledge, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 17:56 (thirteen years ago) link

Like what you've done with mine ledge.

not_goodwin, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 20:10 (thirteen years ago) link

aye well that would be the one i can't take the credit for, just a preset.

ledge, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 21:32 (thirteen years ago) link

I've added my quick attempts to the group pool. I think I want to try again with some of these when I've got more time to sit with each image individually.

treefell, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 21:42 (thirteen years ago) link

just found the discussions! and added my tuppence.

ledge, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 22:20 (thirteen years ago) link

:) feel bad that I

i) submitted such lo-res amateur efforts
ii) don't actually edit pics

but thanks for work on mine everyone

"It's far from 'lol' you were reared, boy" (darraghmac), Wednesday, 4 August 2010 08:44 (thirteen years ago) link

But the beach shot in particular was ideal! I've even had people favouriting it in my photostream! Had to explain that I didn't take it...

Michael Jones, Wednesday, 4 August 2010 08:59 (thirteen years ago) link

mine are up, added them to the discussions as well. Really delighted by the variety of processing techniques.

This is why i set up another account, didn't want to confuse people and myself.

Also, if someone said "this is the best shot you've ever taken, miles better than your usual stuff" i don't know what i'd do :(

not_goodwin, Wednesday, 4 August 2010 10:18 (thirteen years ago) link

Ha! I actually manually hacked the upload dates/times on my previous batch of photos so they'd move back to the top of the photostream, but the damage was done and I was getting plenty of love meant for darraghmac, sciolism and dyao!

Michael Jones, Wednesday, 4 August 2010 10:27 (thirteen years ago) link

:) mayne as long as my work is, y'know out there, mayne, y'know?

"It's far from 'lol' you were reared, boy" (darraghmac), Wednesday, 4 August 2010 10:33 (thirteen years ago) link

new a/c seems the way forward. impressive PS work, sciolism! definitely enjoyed this, would be up for it again.

ledge, Wednesday, 4 August 2010 10:37 (thirteen years ago) link

Enjoyed it as well, has given me a kick up the bum to get my head around PS, i'm alright with LR, but PS is another level to me.

not_goodwin, Wednesday, 4 August 2010 10:50 (thirteen years ago) link

thanks, ledge. don't know what a proper retoucher would make of it, but it was fun.

and thank you dyao. this was a great idea and you did a fantastic job organizing it. A+ would do again. hope this can become a rolling thing.

her breath came in short pants (sciolism), Wednesday, 4 August 2010 11:45 (thirteen years ago) link

yea kudos to dyao

"It's far from 'lol' you were reared, boy" (darraghmac), Wednesday, 4 August 2010 11:52 (thirteen years ago) link

Yeah, thanks to dyao for doing this.
My attempts last night were done as a batch in Lightroom - i.e., I came up with a preset of my own and applied to all the images. Which is how I tend to use Lightroom!
I spent a little while with a couple of images in Photoshop today, dealing with them individually, but they need a bit more time if I were going to put them up.

treefell, Wednesday, 4 August 2010 13:34 (thirteen years ago) link

going to be a few days until i can get to this. not letting myself see the finals until then.

LA river flood (lukas), Wednesday, 4 August 2010 19:01 (thirteen years ago) link

Who's not had a go at processing yet?

not_goodwin, Wednesday, 4 August 2010 22:27 (thirteen years ago) link

same boat as lukas; hope to be done by the weekend!

dyao, Wednesday, 4 August 2010 22:43 (thirteen years ago) link

Cheers for putting this together dyao, hope it continues?

not_goodwin, Wednesday, 4 August 2010 22:59 (thirteen years ago) link

aw thanks for the kind words everyone but really it was all your participation that made it and tbrr all I did was set up a google account.

yeah this should definitely be rolling - need to set up a public shared space though, maybe a mediafire folder?

dyao, Thursday, 5 August 2010 05:44 (thirteen years ago) link

yes, 1 week?
