(also, adding the year to these might not be a bad idea, considering it's an ALL-TIME poll.)

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 10:01 (thirteen years ago) link

you want jam with that? ;)

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 10:03 (thirteen years ago) link

Both of those are from 1992 btw. Will get john to add the years later using his mod powers.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 10:05 (thirteen years ago) link

Having the years would be ace, actually.

I did consider voting for 'Midlife Crisis', but then thought it was too much down to nostalgia and not enough a genuine critical appraisal of the song, so left it off.

emil.y, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 10:06 (thirteen years ago) link

Rusty Cage is from 1991, fwiw.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 10:07 (thirteen years ago) link

ahh, it came out in the UK as a single in 92.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 10:08 (thirteen years ago) link

I gave 'Midlife Crisis' fewer points than it deserves - great track.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 10:09 (thirteen years ago) link

I'll post years as long as emil.y promises to watch every youtube!

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 10:13 (thirteen years ago) link

Hm, I'll have to switch computers, but okay.

emil.y, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 10:17 (thirteen years ago) link

Anyway, yeah. Midlife Crisis was a song I wasn't expecting from Faith No More back in 1992. I remember sitting on my sofa kind of dumbstruck after it premiered on MTV. It didn't take long to love it, but I was in no way sure at first. Rusty Cage, otoh, being the opening track on Badmotorfinger, was different from previous Soundgarden tracks in an OH MY FUCKING GAWD kind of way. I still think Kim is way underrated as an "I can do more than just sound like Iommi" guitarist.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 10:23 (thirteen years ago) link

yay emil.y, and when you do a Twee top 100, I promise to listen to them all too.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 10:29 (thirteen years ago) link

Kim Thayil is a very underrated guitarist.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 10:35 (thirteen years ago) link

That's like one of the classix of all classix.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 10:35 (thirteen years ago) link

lol, I knew you would say that, can someone say "it's not metal" so we can get the set please? ;)

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 10:36 (thirteen years ago) link

Although, upon review of my ballot, I see I failed to include it. So, never mind.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 10:36 (thirteen years ago) link

Ministry - Just One Fix (1992) (319 Points, 8 votes)

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 10:42 (thirteen years ago) link

If "Just One Fix" is at 92, I'm starting to have doubts that "Burning Inside" will make it. Though I really have no gauge of who likes what on ILM where Ministry is concerned.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 10:44 (thirteen years ago) link

this is ILM, you never know what will make or wont make it.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 10:53 (thirteen years ago) link

who likes cover versions?

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 10:58 (thirteen years ago) link

because one is coming up, by one of the most important metal bands ever. But this cover surprised everyone. Most of you will know the original.
Who wants to guess?

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 11:01 (thirteen years ago) link

Metallica's cover of Green Hell?

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 11:03 (thirteen years ago) link

no..

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 11:04 (thirteen years ago) link

Ugly Kid Joe's cover of Cat's in the Cradle? okay, j/k

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 11:05 (thirteen years ago) link

Arab Strap's version of You Shook Me All Night Long or 1000 Homo DJs' version of Supernaut.

Slayer - Guilty of Being White (psyche)

You'd better hurry up and start posting these, because there's a coronal mass ejection headed for Earth today: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/space/7923069/Nasa-scientists-braced-for-solar-tsunami-to-hit-earth.html

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 11:08 (thirteen years ago) link

Hey Jabulani! Pope of four four two. (aldo), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 11:09 (thirteen years ago) link

btw bill magill says he knows what will be #1. So everyone should post what they think the #10 will be now, so we can see who is closest!

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 11:10 (thirteen years ago) link

It's Bring the Noize, isn't it?

kkvgz, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 11:10 (thirteen years ago) link

I said an Important band ;)

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 11:13 (thirteen years ago) link

Anthrax isn't important? b'gosh, why are you even running this poll? ;)

Celtic Frost - Mexican Radio (1987) (319 Points, 10 votes)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JGpdtgeZbgk

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 11:18 (thirteen years ago) link

I remember someone mentioning this in the noms thread. Time to hear it, I guess.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 11:19 (thirteen years ago) link

Damn, thought it would be Motley Crue's "Anarchy in the UK."

President Keyes, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 11:19 (thirteen years ago) link

As a fan of the Wall of Voodoo original, and never having been a fan of Celtic Frost, this is about as bad as I imagined it might be.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 11:21 (thirteen years ago) link

Would never have guessed this would have got that many votes.

I'm going to guess now that at least one of my top ten, and specifically my #4, will not make this run down.

Hey Jabulani! Pope of four four two. (aldo), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 11:25 (thirteen years ago) link

Celtic Frost covered a LOT of styles and influenced lots of genres(thrash/death/black/doom/avant garde metal). You cant really pigeon hole them. Cold Lake fucking sucks though.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 11:28 (thirteen years ago) link

go on guys, post your top 10 guesses

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 11:28 (thirteen years ago) link

This early? That's usually a top 20 kind of thing.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 11:30 (thirteen years ago) link

what do you think are certs to be in the running then?

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 11:32 (thirteen years ago) link

Wow. I love Celtic Frost and I can get behind Mexican Radio too. That was pretty bad. At least it wasn't grebo, though.

kkvgz, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 11:34 (thirteen years ago) link

xp I suspect "Number of the Beast" will probably be in the top 10, but that's just a guess.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 11:36 (thirteen years ago) link

89 TIE
Sepultura - Territory (1993) (320 Points, 10 votes)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_WHGV5bejk&feature=avmsc2

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 11:38 (thirteen years ago) link

lotsa ties! considering the points allotment, I wouldn't have expected more than one or two.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 11:39 (thirteen years ago) link

there's 4 tracks on this point mark, but these 2 have less votes.

but It's really bizarre that they got the same points. It was the last few ballots that did it too.
