jftr, my deff of metal: any post-cream/hendrix guitar music that was influenced by in some essential way (ie, volume, heft, noize, corn, etc.) by c/h, and/or their zillions of disciples).

deep purple yoda (Ioannis), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 16:01 (thirteen years ago) link

strike that first by.

deep purple yoda (Ioannis), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 16:02 (thirteen years ago) link

do you consider Cream or Hendrix heavy rock or proto heavy rock?

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 16:02 (thirteen years ago) link

Footage from "The Word" which always had great bands on it.

I got mad stick from everyone at school after that Word performance. "Are they one of 'your' bands? Fucking awful. Why don't you listen to Jamiroquai instead?"

rhythm fixated member (chap), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 16:03 (thirteen years ago) link

deff heavy rock, just not extremely metal all that often.

deep purple yoda (Ioannis), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 16:05 (thirteen years ago) link

I doubt Cream or Hendrix fans would consider them "metal"

Bill magill are they false?

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 16:11 (thirteen years ago) link

if "Purple Haze" ain't metal then nothing is.

you would never know he was posting via his phone, would you?

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 16:31 (thirteen years ago) link

"Bill magill are they false?"

Hahahaha, I'm not the expert, man. Just a fan. Im not opening that can of worms! they certainly both influenced a lot of hard rock/metal, along with a lot of other genres, to tell you the truth. Would there have been a Stevie Ray Vaughn without Hendrix? no, but SRV isnt metal.

Sorry, I was watching the clip. Awesome stuff, the bit between 1'09 and 1'24 is just about as good as it gets.

State Attorney Foxhart Cubycheck (Billy Dods), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 16:51 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah, you cant but help get goosebumps watching it.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 16:53 (thirteen years ago) link

but the bit at 7.45 "we're going to stop playing this rubbish" :)))

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 16:54 (thirteen years ago) link

Watching it now, I wish I'd placed this much further up my ballot.

State Attorney Foxhart Cubycheck (Billy Dods), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 16:56 (thirteen years ago) link

heh, awesome. and timely too.

deep purple yoda (Ioannis), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 17:00 (thirteen years ago) link

Ozzy Osbourne - Crazy Train (1980) (325 Points,9 votes)

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 17:11 (thirteen years ago) link

Man, Quiet Riot II is just such a disappointing album cover. Like, from a thumbnail jpg, I was like "Whoa, good idea: chicks with football uniforms." but then I opened it up and nope, it was dudes. That's my long way of saying R.I.P. Randy Rhodes. Crazy Train feels played to me these days, but that riff is fucking huge.

kkvgz, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 17:20 (thirteen years ago) link

That Hendrix clip is great, and sterling work by Lulu on the link too. I don't think I even voted for it, shame on me.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 17:22 (thirteen years ago) link

It is a great riff, but solo Ozzy never really did much for me.

Chicago to Philadelphia: "Suck It" (Bill Magill), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 17:22 (thirteen years ago) link

And by the way, can I give a shout out to Henry, the host? What a phenomenal job he is doing.

Chicago to Philadelphia: "Suck It" (Bill Magill), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 17:23 (thirteen years ago) link

lol I really thought I'd voted for "Welcome to the Jungle" and "Crazy Train" but they must have been in the 8 I sacrificed off the end of my ballot

Mayor Hickenlooper and the liberal agenda (HI DERE), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 17:25 (thirteen years ago) link

After watching that clip I think part of my anti-solo Ozzy coincides with the death of Randy Rhoades. Damn was that guy good.

Probably would've only voted for one or both of the Seps so far.

rhythm fixated member (chap), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 17:55 (thirteen years ago) link

Apparently Henry is headbanging with john right now.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 18:33 (thirteen years ago) link

Ok, now here we go. Serious tunes. I actually voted for Super Stupid and not Children, because my ballot was pretty Sabbath heavy. But this list just officially started, in my opinion.

Chicago to Philadelphia: "Suck It" (Bill Magill), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 18:40 (thirteen years ago) link

Funkadelic was nom'd??

ilxor has truly been got at and become an ILXor (ilxor), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 18:40 (thirteen years ago) link

Have you heard that song?

Chicago to Philadelphia: "Suck It" (Bill Magill), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 18:40 (thirteen years ago) link

I thought Children Of The Grave would be higher, they basically invented stoner metal over the course of 5 minutes in that song.

A prog venn diagram for you to think about (Matt #2), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 18:42 (thirteen years ago) link

And Funkadelic basically invented funk metal with that song, for better or worse (worse really).

Have you heard that song?

Yes, but still.

Also I ate some ice cubes and they were delicious.

I mostly like Danzig because he likes doggies also you can tell that he was the runt of his litter so it is inspiring to see him try so hard.

Henry Kvlt Pvp, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 19:02 (thirteen years ago) link

I have voted for a grand total of one in this poll so far. But then, I don't think I voted for any *actual* metal.

emil.y, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 19:04 (thirteen years ago) link

Oh man would have liked to see refuse/resist higher, fucking love that song. Good to be reminded of Angel Witch, a song I completely love but never listen to because uh i dont know im stupid i guess.
