I can only assume that on a vigorous day of altruism Bob Barker showed up at the practice room and personally spayed and neutered this band.

Henry Kvlt Pvp, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 20:03 (thirteen years ago) link

lol

Henry is going to get the massive gasface from my wife should his views on Boston ever be related to her

Mayor Hickenlooper and the liberal agenda (HI DERE), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 20:04 (thirteen years ago) link

wait, the city or the band?

CHEESECAKE VOTING FRUIT HATING SCUM (jjjusten), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 20:10 (thirteen years ago) link

The band, duh

Henry hating on Boston would make her give him full body hugs, regardless of the inevitable hives that would result

Mayor Hickenlooper and the liberal agenda (HI DERE), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 20:15 (thirteen years ago) link

what the hell is this monster magnet song. man, this popist attitude pervades ALL ASPECTS OF ILM! it's crazy.

basically, i am frustrated because THIS LIST NEEDS MORE BLACK METAL.

72 Iron Maiden · Number of the Beast (1982) (331 points · 8 votes)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vn_j9T_DD4k

This brings back memories of how great this band once was. But then Paul Di'Anno left and they replaced him with this soft jumping and prancing man with a voice like a dog whistle. Also that dog that they keep showing in the video? I could kick that stupid crap dogs ass.

Henry Kvlt Pvp, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 20:21 (thirteen years ago) link

i guess i keep forgetting that it's the "top hardrock/metal songs," and not the "heaviest songs."

marc iv, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 20:22 (thirteen years ago) link

I've never actually heard this song and basically I do kind of need to go back and get like every old Iron Maiden album

Mayor Hickenlooper and the liberal agenda (HI DERE), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 20:23 (thirteen years ago) link

OK, I'm handing the reins of this crapwagon back over to that other guy. My dumb owner says I get to go to a place called "the vet" where he says they give away free steaks and car rides.

I will return tomorrow. Until then just remember, you are all false and weak.

Henry Kvlt Pvp, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 20:24 (thirteen years ago) link

You definitely do. You will not be disappointed. This song is just the tip of one hell of a great iceberg.

I loved Powerslave to death back in the day but never really explored anything else they did.

Mayor Hickenlooper and the liberal agenda (HI DERE), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 20:25 (thirteen years ago) link

Oh no Number of the Beast is placing terribly low. That was in my top 10 I think.

Green Manalishi (Viceroy), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 20:26 (thirteen years ago) link

It's strange, the dog in the first picture looks so nice. Completely at odds with this attitude that's on display.

yessssssssssssssssss

I sang this song this weekend at a Rock Band 2 party at my SIL's house, it was awesome

Mayor Hickenlooper and the liberal agenda (HI DERE), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 20:41 (thirteen years ago) link

tis a great song by a great band.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 20:42 (thirteen years ago) link

I have to say, although as a rule I care little for either metal or dogs, I LOVE YOU HENRY.

emil.y, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 20:43 (thirteen years ago) link

I love both metal and dogs, and I think Henry's kind of a pain in the ass. Maybe his vet will be prescribing a "mood enhancer" that will save us readers from such invective.

Chicago to Philadelphia: "Suck It" (Bill Magill), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 20:46 (thirteen years ago) link

That Janes Addiction song better than Number of the Beast? Really??

I will be starting my promised youtube watching tomorrow, I'm afraid. Was out most of the day so didn't have time to requisition the sound-making computer. Diamond Head look like dudes, though.

JA??? noooooooooooo!!!!!!

deep purple yoda (Ioannis), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 20:52 (thirteen years ago) link

i wonder, was henry ever near alex in nyc's immediate proximity? he does seem to be honouring some kinda fire or other after all.

deep purple yoda (Ioannis), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 20:56 (thirteen years ago) link

^ never trust his judgement!

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 20:56 (thirteen years ago) link

What chance Zep missing out entirely?

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 20:58 (thirteen years ago) link

Jane's Addiction = probably my least favorite LA band ever

deep purple yoda (Ioannis), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 21:00 (thirteen years ago) link

Perry Farrell is the only person for whom the "he's a cock but I love his music" argument makes any sense to me, and there it's really because I never saw him in concert, read any of his interviews or heard his incredibly terrible songs that would have offended the shit out of me during the time when he was making the music that I liked.

# 100. MC5 - KICK OUT THE JAMS (313 Points - 8 votes)....
71 Jane's Addiction - Mountain Song (1988) (334 Points, 9 votes)

Voting seems very close!

When I saw JA live perry wasn't a dick at all, quite surprising.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 21:05 (thirteen years ago) link

I mean for example I just tried to listen to "Whores" and you know what, no

I gotta go with Sugar Ray here.

That Janes Addiction song better than Number of the Beast? Really??

bill magill OTM, that is some bullshit & now I sincerely regret not voting in this poll

also OTM that the list starts at #77 because all lists start at #77 IMO

j0rdan sgt's tartan shorts club ban (crüt), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 21:12 (thirteen years ago) link

like I find it almost inconceivable that the band responsible for "Summertime Rolls" and "Three Days" also gave us "Whores"

um that didn't come out right

Mayor Hickenlooper and the liberal agenda (HI DERE), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 21:12 (thirteen years ago) link

as the actress said to the bishop

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 21:14 (thirteen years ago) link

next up is a band that already have one entry. NWOBHM strikes yet again.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 21:22 (thirteen years ago) link

it's really because I never saw him in concert

I saw Jane's Addiction twice when they were first together, and for all Farrell has been a dislikeable and dickheadish character in the years since, I remember him being a strange and very compelling/magnetic presence on stage back then. He def had "it" for all he lost it in the ensuing years. Kickass live band, great track, my favourite so far out of all those listed.

Take my hand, we'll make it I swear (Pashmina), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 21:23 (thirteen years ago) link

Didn't vote for it but it's my favourite song by them.
xp

Witchfinder General - Burning A Sinner (1981) (336 Points, 8 votes)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxliU58k87Q

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 21:25 (thirteen years ago) link

Number of the Beast FAR FAR FAR FAR too low! Now I'm grumpy.

Also, WTF? Another Witchfinder General track? Now I DO have to eat my shoe.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 21:28 (thirteen years ago) link

Never underestimate metallers love for NWOBHM.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 21:30 (thirteen years ago) link

Not like it Mr Fever?

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 21:51 (thirteen years ago) link

No, it's fine. I like WFG okay (this song better than the lower-ranked one, even), but it's not moving me me to comment. The whole "eat my shoe" comment is just because I didn't expect them to show more than once.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 21:52 (thirteen years ago) link

I gotta wonder right now if I even voted in this poll. Either that or the dog ate my ballot and that's why he's so pissed off.

Chicago to Philadelphia: "Suck It" (Bill Magill), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 21:53 (thirteen years ago) link

I said the list might be a bit unpredictable in the lower half.

btw Bill still hasn't told us the track he thinks is a shoe-in for #1

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 21:54 (thirteen years ago) link

No-one but no-one gave a shit about Witchfinder General at the time, I guess they have retrospective kudos because they were Sabbath influenced rather than Rush or Deep Purple or whoever. I mean Tygers Of Pan Tang and Praying Mantis were way bigger around 1981 but I suspect we won't be seeing them in this poll, maybe I should have nominated Captured City.
