Everybody had the chance to nominate songs.

I don't think there was a lack of cool stuff in the noms, really, but I don't know. I was hoping for more insight into what the metal dudes liked. And I realize in my ballot, that I nom'd some hair metal and classic rock stuff too, but I think it was less obvious stuff than Paradise City and Back in Black. I'm not totally disappointed, because this poll has tipped me off to some interesting stuff. But it's just like, "Wow - Back in Black, huh?"

This is a song about rockets. Did you know that people shot a dog named Laika into space and then never got her back? Humans are dicks.

Every time I hear this song it's like the first time ever. It's so goddamn great that i cant even find words to describe it.

Number 49?

Chicago to Philadelphia: "Suck It" (Bill Magill), Wednesday, 4 August 2010 19:09 (thirteen years ago) link

Is this the first one with a number 1 vote? if so, at least i have that as consolation

I don't even have the energy to taunt you prog fakers, I will just let the lonely attempts of this youtuber to make friends via lyrics speak volumes about what it must be like for you.

Also there was saxophone. I became upset.

Should have been the Flower Travellin' Band version, surely?

Based on the shocking Into the Void placing, I rescind my prior prediction about guaranteeing the #1 song.

Which song was it? Spill Bill!

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 4 August 2010 19:49 (thirteen years ago) link

demons a. real (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 4 August 2010 19:51 (thirteen years ago) link

Go check my ballot, it's my number 1. A foolish prediction on my part-embarrassed to even post it on here after seeing how my ballot varies from this list.

Interesting, Drugs. Definitely curious to see how this thing shakes out.

Not what I thought you would expect to win.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 4 August 2010 19:56 (thirteen years ago) link

the next song is absolutely brilliant and I'm so glad to see it place.
I didn't vote for it though, It was one I cut as I thought it wouldnt make it so chose another song by the band (that actually placed earlier) so shows how much I know!

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 4 August 2010 19:59 (thirteen years ago) link

It's gotten some love from non-metal/hard rock denizens of ILM. But maybe a leap of faith.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 4 August 2010 20:02 (thirteen years ago) link

Never heard of Manilla Road before this. That's better than the first one. Are they NWOBH? They sound quite a lot like Spinal Tap.

Probably the best cult heavy metal band in america.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 4 August 2010 20:09 (thirteen years ago) link

Slough Feg covered one of their songs on a recentish album. Anyone who is into them, is REALLY into them (like with Kyuss)

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 4 August 2010 20:09 (thirteen years ago) link

I posted a manilla road lp on mordys metal listening club recently.

On this poll xp. You're forgetting Talking Heads.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 4 August 2010 20:30 (thirteen years ago) link

stuff I've voted for

Unsung
Children of the Grave

I expect two more from my ballot will make this, but tbf, as a metalhead I am kind of shit. Too many Fall albums!

demons a. real (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 4 August 2010 20:31 (thirteen years ago) link

I would love it if touretee's made it...

demons a. real (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 4 August 2010 20:33 (thirteen years ago) link

and I hand you over to Henry for the next 2, he's calmed down a bit apparently.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 4 August 2010 20:35 (thirteen years ago) link

Herman, with as much as you seem to love Manilla Road (and with them being a fuXing c0rny as they are) I don't want to hear one more word out of you that slights hair metal. Because nothing I've ever been a fan of is as ridiculous as Manilla Road.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 4 August 2010 20:37 (thirteen years ago) link

or as good? ;)

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 4 August 2010 20:38 (thirteen years ago) link

As absurd. ;)

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 4 August 2010 20:41 (thirteen years ago) link

I just got here, btw...so uh...Paradise City comes in 41 places higher than Welcome to the Jungle? What is wrong with you people? (I only voted for Sweet Child, so it's partly my fault, but c'mon!!!)

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 4 August 2010 20:43 (thirteen years ago) link

id take paradise city over wtj any day. id take its so easy over both.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 4 August 2010 20:43 (thirteen years ago) link

I would too re: It's So Easy, but no one nominated it.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 4 August 2010 20:48 (thirteen years ago) link

btw a lot of rolling metal thread regulars didn't vote. So dont be surprised at any results. some false stuff will be too high, some classics will be too low, some stuff always in lists will appear, but it also means the angel witches, manilla roads and witchfinder generals get in.
Also extreme stuff will never do that well im tracks polls... or will it?
If a track is too low, dont blame those who did vote!

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 4 August 2010 20:48 (thirteen years ago) link

I'm not a big gnr fan, i find appetite highly overrated, but 4 or 5 of its songs are 4 or 5 of the best ever.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 4 August 2010 20:49 (thirteen years ago) link

the rolling metal thread regulars suck a dick then!
