if you are open for suggestions might i suggest starting with "sending in a ballot".

NOT FUNNY NEEDS MORE CGI (jjjusten), Friday, 6 August 2010 00:09 (thirteen years ago) link

but this list is rather reactionary, no offence *shit-eating grin*

still, some of it slays I guess

JJ, I was going to but didn't get reminded, w/e

let it sb (acoleuthic), Friday, 6 August 2010 00:10 (thirteen years ago) link

you read new answers, you knew it was ongoing, you even nominated. You have no excuse

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 6 August 2010 00:12 (thirteen years ago) link

tbh for the 5 days leading up to closed nominations I was posting almost exclusively to the food polls - I got tunnel vision, what can I say

more lunacy and witchcraft! (kkvgz), Friday, 6 August 2010 00:14 (thirteen years ago) link

well, I'll just mentally add loads of points to stuff I like - it'll at least be interesting to see how other people voted in this one

let it sb (acoleuthic), Friday, 6 August 2010 00:14 (thirteen years ago) link

Aneurysm is the best Nirvana song isn't it? I mean, I thought I was the only one, but it really is!

village idiot (dog latin), Friday, 6 August 2010 00:21 (thirteen years ago) link

Oh jeez, now I'm glad I wasn't around for the reveal.

You guys worked hard to put this together, all three of you (+ one doggie), but these results make me inexplicably angry and mad and vengeful. I guess that's pretty metal, huh?

Johnelle Fevráe (Johnny Fever), Friday, 6 August 2010 00:45 (thirteen years ago) link

You don't like Stargazer?

EZ Snappin, Friday, 6 August 2010 00:49 (thirteen years ago) link

anguish and rage are two very metal emotions.

I got my black gloves on (Viceroy), Friday, 6 August 2010 00:50 (thirteen years ago) link

Sure, whatever. I have no strong feelings on it one way or the other. Wouldn't even be in my top 200 or 300, though.

Johnelle Fevráe (Johnny Fever), Friday, 6 August 2010 00:51 (thirteen years ago) link

it was 5 ilxors #1

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 6 August 2010 00:52 (thirteen years ago) link

I had no idea about Stargazer, didn't even know it existed. Very very impressive song.

kornrulez6969, Friday, 6 August 2010 00:54 (thirteen years ago) link

The first two Rainbow albums are quite good and filled with a bunch of classic tracks (search: The Man on the Silver Mountain). I think the first is better but not by a huge margin.

EZ Snappin, Friday, 6 August 2010 00:56 (thirteen years ago) link

can I just say that the ppl whining about this list are the worst ppl on earth

people are for loving (HI DERE), Friday, 6 August 2010 01:18 (thirteen years ago) link

Really? Worse than child molesters or serial killers?

kornrulez6969, Friday, 6 August 2010 01:18 (thirteen years ago) link

STICK THAT BOOT IN A BIT FURTHER DAN I'M NOT QUITE DEAD

let it sb (acoleuthic), Friday, 6 August 2010 01:20 (thirteen years ago) link

p.s. it's not a bad or unexpected list and I'm cool w/it as long as the albumz poll delivers

let it sb (acoleuthic), Friday, 6 August 2010 01:21 (thirteen years ago) link

I think basically what this tracks poll establishes is: a) a bunch of people discovered "Stargazer" in the Dio-RIP thread, b) Supernaut and Ace of Spaces are rock-solid heavy metal exemplars, c) Metallica used to be good.

That's all. After that it's more or less a 100-way tie for 5th, and it trails off from there. There were two tracks in the top 20 that only beat the Osmonds by 4 votes, so complaining about placings is pointless. Too few voters, too little consensus.

Statistically speaking, the album side is quite a bit more coherent: maybe a top 50 or so with actual collective weight.

As entertainment, anything with Henry is fine with me.

glenn mcdonald, Friday, 6 August 2010 01:24 (thirteen years ago) link

Nicely put Glenn.

EZ Snappin, Friday, 6 August 2010 01:25 (thirteen years ago) link

Great job guys, Herm, JJ, Henry everyone else who helped and voted.

Top four songs fucking rock, and its poetic justice that an RJD song wins!

Last and least: fuck the haters. Mark iv, that's some bullshit to run this thing down. I bitched a lot during it, but it was fun, so fuck you.

Chicago to Philadelphia: "Suck It" (Bill Magill), Friday, 6 August 2010 01:26 (thirteen years ago) link

I was out drinking and am too lazy to scroll up; what song were you guessing for #1, Bill?

people are for loving (HI DERE), Friday, 6 August 2010 01:27 (thirteen years ago) link

Supernaut. You'll see midway through I wavered on it, based on the way things were going, but I cant complain about #1.

Chicago to Philadelphia: "Suck It" (Bill Magill), Friday, 6 August 2010 01:30 (thirteen years ago) link

All in all, this was a lot of fun, and checking in on it all the time cost me some serious productivity at work-but its worth it.

Chicago to Philadelphia: "Suck It" (Bill Magill), Friday, 6 August 2010 01:31 (thirteen years ago) link

It sure was. Good fun all around.
Thought there might still be more chat on what just missed out etc.
We still have emil.y's not quite live blogging to finish off too!

Check what just missed out! esp johnny & ez

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 6 August 2010 03:30 (thirteen years ago) link

Funny that I'm such a listoholic when it comes to albums, but when I contemplate ranking songs, my brain seizes up. I didn't get a song ballot in, but knew it was in capable hands. A fun, diverse list, thanx!

Fastnbulbous, Friday, 6 August 2010 03:36 (thirteen years ago) link

Only one other person voted for "Rock You Like a Hurricane". ;_;
Only one other person voted for "Nobody's Fool". ;_; ;_; ;_;

Johnny Fever, Friday, 6 August 2010 03:36 (thirteen years ago) link

Oh wait, I essentially voted twice for those, because they were on EZ's ballot. Never has the message been clearer to me that I am an island.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 6 August 2010 03:37 (thirteen years ago) link

I think basically what this tracks poll establishes is: a) a bunch of people discovered "Stargazer" in the Dio-RIP thread, b) Supernaut and Ace of Spaces are rock-solid heavy metal exemplars, c) Metallica used to be good.
....
Nicely put Glenn.

Yes. That was the Stargazer of post-poll wrapups.

let me check further and get back to you

NOT FUNNY NEEDS MORE CGI (jjjusten), Friday, 6 August 2010 05:43 (thirteen years ago) link

Yup. Track list sent on 7/21/10 at 6:12pm CST.

Kevin John Bozelka, Friday, 6 August 2010 05:55 (thirteen years ago) link

a bunch of people discovered "Stargazer" in the Dio-RIP thread,

That may be the case, then they discovered a real treat. My memories of it go back to Tommy Vance's Friday Rock Show all time tracks pollin the early 80s where it would always finish in the top 3 with 'Smoke on the Water' and 'Stairway to Heaven'.

State Attorney Foxhart Cubycheck (Billy Dods), Friday, 6 August 2010 07:09 (thirteen years ago) link

Thanks to all for organising, looking forward to the Spotify playlist and of course the albums poll!

but this list is rather reactionary, no offence *shit-eating grin*

What does this even mean? Reactionary because there's very little god-awful prog rock, a genre that is arguably horribly reactionary itself? In other words, unless you have something positive to contribute, maybe try something new and keep it shut.
