IT'S GUCCI TIME

XD

blap...tremendo (deej), Friday, 6 August 2010 23:57 (thirteen years ago) link

my only real problem with it is that because of the justice sample it's a bit "on to the next one pt. 2" but that's a bit of a small quibble cuz it's not like "on to the next one" is some unassailable classic

righteous lecoq (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 7 August 2010 00:51 (thirteen years ago) link

really the biggest problem is for some reason giving swizz a verse

righteous lecoq (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 7 August 2010 00:51 (thirteen years ago) link

another new one off the new album

weird that I was just thinking yesterday that gucci should sample/reference "gucci time"

ballerrr (The Reverend), Saturday, 7 August 2010 12:49 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah these are technically very accomplished, but like some peeps up thread i'm kinda bummed that the sense of weird--and to some extent the sense of fun--is kinda disappearing. that element was always the most exciting for me (and why something like "i might pull up on a zebra" is the standout from gucci time). these just all sound very sober. he needs to start smoking some weed again or something.

Jacques_Lamure, Saturday, 7 August 2010 15:48 (thirteen years ago) link

i've been really high on mr. zone 6 even though i don't necessarily disagree with deej's assessment, possibly because irl i often find myself around people who dont take gucci seriously as a lyricist and if i ever end up in that argument then i can just point to this tape as exhibit a. but also because dry by gucci's standard is still extremely entertaining

'dont beleeh dat' is GREAT

sometimes i'm really with you guys on Gucci being super dope all the time, but then i listen to the E-40 album guest spot which starts

40 Water, Gucci... uh
Hollywood... Cali love"

and i just smh

bucmarkersot lefonque (Whiney G. Weingarten), Saturday, 7 August 2010 20:45 (thirteen years ago) link

dudes highs are v high for me, and his lows are v :/

bucmarkersot lefonque (Whiney G. Weingarten), Saturday, 7 August 2010 20:46 (thirteen years ago) link

i dont see what the 'problem' is w/ that couplet

blap...tremendo (deej), Saturday, 7 August 2010 20:54 (thirteen years ago) link

i think yr letting "rap should be structured this way technically to be good" overwhelm "rappers are personalities making music & dont have to conform to technical norms"

blap...tremendo (deej), Saturday, 7 August 2010 20:55 (thirteen years ago) link

im not even sure whats so wrong w/ using a grunt as a syllable there to rhyme with. its not like it breaks character for him, which would be a much bigger deal to quality than the fact that he doesn't fill every space with nimble verbal acrobatics

blap...tremendo (deej), Saturday, 7 August 2010 20:57 (thirteen years ago) link

ugh swizz beats please step away from the justice cd

also wouldn't this kinda still be a Goblin sample?

surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally, Saturday, 7 August 2010 21:32 (thirteen years ago) link

I actually endorse Swizz sampling justice cuz it totally makes sense why he likes them

J0rdan S., Saturday, 7 August 2010 21:41 (thirteen years ago) link

sometimes i feel pretty smh about some of the slower gucci raps

but some of them are like his best shit

werner herzomg (samosa gibreel), Sunday, 8 August 2010 00:37 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah i might be alone here but that one he rapped over the phone from jail is awesome to me, like a lost ro joint or something

(re: slow raps)

terry squad (k3vin k.), Sunday, 8 August 2010 01:09 (thirteen years ago) link

im not sure what tempo has to do w/ it, this new drumma track is slow raps & its awesome, if not his most lyrical shit, and 'marijuanna got my beemer foggy as a sauna' is def one of his slow rap joints, etc

blap...tremendo (deej), Sunday, 8 August 2010 02:58 (thirteen years ago) link

the over the phone rap is a total classic

J0rdan S., Sunday, 8 August 2010 03:11 (thirteen years ago) link

deej's last post otm

J0rdan S., Sunday, 8 August 2010 03:11 (thirteen years ago) link

im not sure what tempo has to do w/ it,

lol this is my bad. i had imagined the couplet whiney typed out a slow rap because of the "..." s and made me think of how sometimes his use of negative space in slow raps is awkward or can sometimes expose an under-written verse. just listened to the song and that's obv not the case. a great verse, though, imo, i really like him on that beat. definitely do not f/w e-40 though

werner herzomg (samosa gibreel), Sunday, 8 August 2010 03:20 (thirteen years ago) link

gtfo imo

i wish i had a radio station that played schooly d. closest thing we have to a rap station here plays ke$ha and mike posner. :(

Imagine if Mozart was of extreme low intelligence..., August 10, 2010

This review is from: The State vs. Radric Davis (Audio CD)
...this is what his compositions would have resembled. After listening to this nonsense, I wondered if I was going crazy. I mean, as much as I am contrary to this belief, but Gucci Mane is one of the hottest rappers out right now. Why am I unable to notice how great he is? Why can I not feel this "deepness" or "realness" that pro-Gucci activists claim is contained in ALL his music? The answer came to me through a friend of mine at work. It's because I am not a teenager. Rap used to be about something, it used to represent more than what todays radio suggests, even then, the teenagers were not dumb and could filter through the good, the bad, and the pure trash. But in todays modern world, teenagers are completely stupid. Look at the subject matter of their comments, the grammar, the constant stream of ghetto fool-talk they spew. It is no surprise that they relate to half-wit circus performers like Gucci Mane. So, if you are a teenager, this album is probably 5 star material in your eyes and you should run out and buy it. If not, you might want to avoid it altogether and find something a little more mature than "Lemonade." I am not a "hater" I think people like Plies, Gucci Mane etc are necessary. They help to identify the good intelligent genes from near retarded, in future people will stop breeding with fans of this garbage and the world will return to one of more sophistication and (what's now known as) uncommon sense.

random ppl on the internet have written far wilder & more out-there stuff on gucci, that's pretty average fare.
