there used to be this molson stuff that you could only get in canada called (i think, been a while) molson blue ice that had almost no taste to it but routinely knocked me on my ass.

it's got to be the best thing about living in another country: the shitty beers are all different. i'm drinking schultheiss now. never heard of it before...love it today.

last year i had some brits staying with me and i came home from work to find them out of their gourds on 20 oz. cans of tylski.

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 18:38 (seventeen years ago) link

I think I had Fin du Mondes with Dr Barry MindInRewind of ILX in Toronto.

Yuengling if I'm having multiples at the bar. Corona or Sam Adams for the fridge.

It turned out a pompous obtuse fool in my undergrad English class had made a small fortune singing "Tonight let it be Lowenbrau" in the ads. After discovering this fact, we started sniggering whenever he launched into some bilious deconstruction of Henry James and he finally blew up at us in class.

Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 18:38 (seventeen years ago) link

i like yuengling

river wolf, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 18:40 (seventeen years ago) link

dmr, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 18:47 (seventeen years ago) link

harpoon winter warmer is now and forever will be my favorite beer. that was an unexpected treat of being in ny earlier this month, i happened across a place selling 'poonies.

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 18:48 (seventeen years ago) link

HARPOON UFO GUYS

Catsupppppppppppppp dude ‫茄蕃‪, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 18:54 (seventeen years ago) link

ugh, they came out with that a year or two before i left boston, didn't dig it AT ALL. my second least favorite harpoon offering after the snakebite shit they had for a couple years.

fun fact: i was once in the harpoon newsletter.

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 18:56 (seventeen years ago) link

river wolf, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 18:59 (seventeen years ago) link

Great stuff, that Dale's

BLASTOCYST, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 19:00 (seventeen years ago) link

does Anheuser-Busch make any 'specialty' beers that don't taste like horsepiss? I have to spend 4 July nights in St. Louis.

Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 19:01 (seventeen years ago) link

basically your answer is no

dmr, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 19:02 (seventeen years ago) link

but Schlafly's is pretty good (St. Louis-only?)

and all the Boulevard stuff (K.C. based)

dmr, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 19:03 (seventeen years ago) link

hamm's - bleurrgh! it was the cheapest we could buy by the case in college. i drank 11 one night, and never again.

shaefer's was the first beer i got drunk on in jr hs, as my friend's father had a ton of dusty bottles of it dating back to god knows when in the basement.

lauren, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 19:22 (seventeen years ago) link

delerium tremins is pretty great but it sounds like something you would get going thru withdrawal

who likes SHINER BOCK? the beer of shiner, tx. I didn't know they even sold it here in chicago but then i found it at this dive by the corner of ashland and chicago ave next door to mecca fashions

also as a lifelong chicagoan, old style tastes like shit

deej, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 19:51 (seventeen years ago) link

i have a friend from st louis and as a result i am alright with bud

coors and related products are a no no, but i think that should have been made obvious upthread

miller high life aint bad and i will also drink pabst. hipsterbingo.jpg

deej, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 19:52 (seventeen years ago) link

deej, i'm probably going to foot or mac's or tuman's or maybe gold star tonight if you want to come by.

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 19:56 (seventeen years ago) link

delerium tremins is pretty great but it sounds like something you would get going thru withdrawal

not sure if you're joking or not but DTs is exactly what you would get going through withdrawal

thats why it's called that

Shiner is good .... Lone Star not so much but it's ok

dmr, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 19:57 (seventeen years ago) link

or maybe beachwood, i haven't been there in ages. my friend lives around division & ashland and i don't want her walking too far so i'm trying to keep it in the neighborhood.

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 19:57 (seventeen years ago) link

xpost.

BLASTOCYST, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 19:58 (seventeen years ago) link

kevin - maybe. what time?

deej, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 20:37 (seventeen years ago) link

I used to drink killians red in high school thinking I was a beer snob.

Yerac, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 20:44 (seventeen years ago) link

I drank a bottle of magic hat too fast last night and had cartoonish hiccups leading into burps for about 30 minutes.

Yerac, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 20:45 (seventeen years ago) link

killian's isn't all that bad

Catsupppppppppppppp dude ‫茄蕃‪, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 20:45 (seventeen years ago) link

i am thinking anytime after 7 pm? i've got to go to the grocery store at division/milwaukee/ashland then schlep my shit home.

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 20:46 (seventeen years ago) link

I drank 8 killian reds one night in college while at a beach and did horrible things. i have not drank that since.
