people who complain about "r&b beats" on west coast rap thoroughly don't get it

That snare is more of a splash than a snare, cool sound tho. I love the snare on Got My Mind Made Up, which for about 3 years was my favorite song off AEOM.

RANDOM FACT:

did you know that Inspectah Deck did the last verse on that song but it was cut cos they thought the song was too long, hence the "I N S the rebel" at the end before it fades out.

This is supposedly it:

ALl these song are undeniable, cant be mad at any pick really.

Currently I'd pick Heartz Of Men, Picture Me Rollin or No More Pain. How Do You Want it is still one of my favorite songs to grind to.

chilli, Sunday, 3 July 2011 08:08 (twelve years ago) link

Probably deserves it. Pretty much every song named in this thread has been my favorite at some point tho.

& no love for "shorty wanna be a thug"??? i demand a recount!

ditto all eyez on me, wonda why they call u bitch. there's that kanye beat on graduation that's shooting for a shorty wanna be a thug thing.

i always wish someone would write one of those books about the making of this record. about all of it, i don't understand what the process was, what the productions are made up of, etc.

gotta say "What's Ya Phone #" is really the only flat out 'dud' to me on Disc 1

love that song

i feel like I only whip these discs out during moments of extreme stress. it always does the trick tho

sad that 4tay's career didn't launch more...just got "Don't Fight the Feelin" of his....underrated

always return to this one and "I Got My Mind Made Up" always slays me the most. it has multiple verses that still repeat in my head all the time, particularly Pac's, Method Man's, and Kurupt's. just quality lyricism front to back, kinda a "fuck you, East Coast, we can do this too" type of feel to it....sandwiched in the middle of some trad West Coast jamz.

the movie felt way too much like a lifetime biopic rather than something complex, thoughtful or gritty. At best it was fun at times though (the soundtrack certainly helps things)

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Saturday, 5 September 2020 18:42 (three years ago) link

yeah, sonically it's stunning. thematically, lyrically, it's probably his masterwork.

just the first notes of "Ambitionz as a Ridah" are enough to get me amped.

I still love the abstract west coast vs east coast lyricism of "I Got My Mind Made Up", with a relative who's who of guests on it, the lyrics of each verse I can still recite from memory.

"Holla at Me" has a great chorus too.

Neanderthal, Saturday, 5 September 2020 21:08 (three years ago) link

i love this album so much

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Saturday, 19 September 2020 00:30 (three years ago) link

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Saturday, 19 September 2020 00:31 (three years ago) link

the verses literally run through my head once a week, still.

especially Meth's

Neanderthal, Saturday, 19 September 2020 00:41 (three years ago) link

we should re-poll this, zero votes for the title track or "2 of amerikkkaz" or "life goes on" is insane to me

comedy khadafi (voodoo chili), Thursday, 1 September 2022 15:12 (one year ago) link

2 of Amerikkaz and Life Goes ON shoulda gotten votes, yeah.

my local soccer team won last night, dramatically, so I put on my hip hop playlist and was looking for the right celebratory anthem, and I kept skipping and "Ambitions as a Ridah" came on and my choice was made.

fascinating to me that ambitionz is his most streamed song on spotify. it wasnt even a single.

daz killed every song he produced on that album. skandalouz sounds like quik had a hand in it.

i love the mix of guests on this album
