Also, AppleTV will have access to Hulu on the second of never, but you can already hack Hulu to work on a PS3 if you stick a http proxy in-between to change the browser user agent, afaik

I love the simplicity of the new apple tv. I would totally get it but I already have a HTPC that I can do all of that already.

Jeff, Wednesday, 1 September 2010 20:37 (thirteen years ago) link

wait, if i have apple tv do i need a ps3?

caek, Wednesday, 1 September 2010 20:37 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah ps3 media server works like a peach on osx

jozam djinn (cozen), Wednesday, 1 September 2010 20:38 (thirteen years ago) link

AppleTV only plays PS2 games, so if you have a new-style PS3 that only plays PS1/PS3 games then it is a good addition imo

mh, Wednesday, 1 September 2010 20:38 (thirteen years ago) link

now I'm just throwing misinfo on the thread

feel free to answer my Korn Kuestion (HI DERE), Wednesday, 1 September 2010 20:41 (thirteen years ago) link

really, wipeout hd should come with a large subwoofer or bass amp

mh, Wednesday, 1 September 2010 20:41 (thirteen years ago) link

I can't believe apple announced the ps4 today!!!!!

max, Wednesday, 1 September 2010 20:41 (thirteen years ago) link

i'm kind of surprised sony doesn't come out with an integrated bravia/ps3, but they do have vaio TVs. what are they thinking?

Philip Nunez, Wednesday, 1 September 2010 20:44 (thirteen years ago) link

lol apple tv is hueg

caek, Wednesday, 1 September 2010 20:54 (thirteen years ago) link

the price of a bravia with the failure rate of a video game console, what an idea

mh, Wednesday, 1 September 2010 20:55 (thirteen years ago) link

when they buy a new one that's more $ for sony.

Philip Nunez, Wednesday, 1 September 2010 21:00 (thirteen years ago) link

The new AppleTV looks like a potential pickup for me - well, at least for my parents, where there's no PS3 or 360 and it'd be super nice to have a better-than-Roku alternative w/WiFi for Netflix streaming to the basement TV. Also, assuming I could network share their photos from Windows, a nice TV photo browser.

Nhex, Wednesday, 1 September 2010 21:16 (thirteen years ago) link

YOU DONT NEED A NEW ONE. YOU CAN STREAM TO PS3.

real s1ock (s1ocki), Wednesday, 1 September 2010 21:17 (thirteen years ago) link

So I'm assuming the Apple TV can replace my airport express for Airtunes music? Would love to move the express (which I'm only using for Airtunes) to the bedroom.

Spencer Chow, Wednesday, 1 September 2010 22:22 (thirteen years ago) link

current apple tv does this. looks like it's not getting any updates, but airplay wld be sweet

stet, Wednesday, 1 September 2010 22:27 (thirteen years ago) link

um, you can stream practically anything onto a PS3 using TVersity, Orb or PS3 Media Server

yeah but then you have to make sure your computer is on. YOU GOT TO KEEP IT SEPARATED.

I always thought the Apple TV was like an Airport Express that could do video. Now it is!

I have a PS3 but I'm thinking of picking up one of those new Apple TVs. my question is, do I really need the new Apple TV? or will my PS3 be sufficient?

dayo, Wednesday, 1 September 2010 23:31 (thirteen years ago) link

has itunes10 been released yet?

trivial fursuit (diamonddave85), Thursday, 2 September 2010 01:33 (thirteen years ago) link

yep -- http://www.apple.com/itunes/

markers, Thursday, 2 September 2010 02:44 (thirteen years ago) link

You don't need iTunes either, btw.

real s1ock (s1ocki), Thursday, 2 September 2010 05:39 (thirteen years ago) link

Dear Apple,

Please make an iPod Classic with a 240GB drive (Toshiba has been shipping them for a year now).

k thx bye,
Elvis Telecom

Elvis Telecom, Thursday, 2 September 2010 05:50 (thirteen years ago) link

thanks, s1ocki. it was really hard to find info about it on the net.

shorn_blond.avi (dayo), Thursday, 2 September 2010 05:53 (thirteen years ago) link

feeling sad about the demise of the Classic. end of an era and all...

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Thursday, 2 September 2010 07:13 (thirteen years ago) link

Pissed that they didn't announce a higher capacity iPod classic. Was hoping for a 240 or 320gb model :(

I am using your worlds, Thursday, 2 September 2010 12:27 (thirteen years ago) link

holy GOD the new itunes logo is ugly

shorn_blond.avi (dayo), Thursday, 2 September 2010 12:55 (thirteen years ago) link

to be fair the old logo was pretty damn cheezy

trivial fursuit (diamonddave85), Thursday, 2 September 2010 13:48 (thirteen years ago) link

yea but it kinda 'fit' in with the rest of the logos. now I have this neon blue god of death nestled in between my milquetoast finder and mail logos.

shorn_blond.avi (dayo), Thursday, 2 September 2010 13:51 (thirteen years ago) link

then change the icon, there are plenty of cool icons out there

mh, Thursday, 2 September 2010 13:52 (thirteen years ago) link

no I am going to be Gruber about it some more

shorn_blond.avi (dayo), Thursday, 2 September 2010 13:54 (thirteen years ago) link

starting to make me remember why I unsubscribed from his blog, so I wouldn't have "deep thoughts" about shit like that and corporate strategies

mh, Thursday, 2 September 2010 13:56 (thirteen years ago) link

that new logo does look a bit windows 7

caek, Thursday, 2 September 2010 14:41 (thirteen years ago) link

Shouldn't be a bit more like this?

*Shouldn't it*

James Mitchell, Thursday, 2 September 2010 14:49 (thirteen years ago) link

that new logo does look a bit windows 7

does look better pinned to the task bar than the old one

former moderator, please give generously (DG), Thursday, 2 September 2010 14:51 (thirteen years ago) link

pleased that v10 finally looks a bit more like the system preferences graphite appearance, but would rather it actually payed attention to the system preference per the HIG. zoom buttons in a column rather than a row? wtf? store arrows have moved from being right aligned to being adjacent to the text, so they are in a different l-r position on every track, which is el retardo.

caek, Thursday, 2 September 2010 15:08 (thirteen years ago) link

also the icon looks better in the dock because it's smaller, but it still looks like something steve ballmer approved

caek, Thursday, 2 September 2010 15:08 (thirteen years ago) link

ha i meant in windows! i think it looks fine in osx too, don't see why the internet is having a shitfit about it, apart from the usual autistic spectrum disorders

former moderator, please give generously (DG), Thursday, 2 September 2010 15:21 (thirteen years ago) link

not going to defend whoever you're talking about ("the internet" apparently), but caring about subjective aesthetics does not necessarily indicate "autistic spectrum disorders".

caek, Thursday, 2 September 2010 15:28 (thirteen years ago) link

you and your suspicious mind. i'm not talking about anyone in particular, just the volume of shrieking about something utterly unimportant that i see scattered across "the internet"
