that new logo does look a bit windows 7

does look better pinned to the task bar than the old one

pleased that v10 finally looks a bit more like the system preferences graphite appearance, but would rather it actually payed attention to the system preference per the HIG. zoom buttons in a column rather than a row? wtf? store arrows have moved from being right aligned to being adjacent to the text, so they are in a different l-r position on every track, which is el retardo.

caek, Thursday, 2 September 2010 15:08 (thirteen years ago) link

also the icon looks better in the dock because it's smaller, but it still looks like something steve ballmer approved

caek, Thursday, 2 September 2010 15:08 (thirteen years ago) link

ha i meant in windows! i think it looks fine in osx too, don't see why the internet is having a shitfit about it, apart from the usual autistic spectrum disorders

former moderator, please give generously (DG), Thursday, 2 September 2010 15:21 (thirteen years ago) link

not going to defend whoever you're talking about ("the internet" apparently), but caring about subjective aesthetics does not necessarily indicate "autistic spectrum disorders".

caek, Thursday, 2 September 2010 15:28 (thirteen years ago) link

you and your suspicious mind. i'm not talking about anyone in particular, just the volume of shrieking about something utterly unimportant that i see scattered across "the internet"

former moderator, please give generously (DG), Thursday, 2 September 2010 15:37 (thirteen years ago) link

so you're saying, what is the deal with all these people with different interests to me having different opinions to me about something i don't care about?

caek, Thursday, 2 September 2010 15:43 (thirteen years ago) link

no i'm saying what is the deal with people devoting their thursday afternoon (or wherever) indulging themselves in lengthy arguments about a fucking desktop icon, as you appear to want to do.

former moderator, please give generously (DG), Thursday, 2 September 2010 15:45 (thirteen years ago) link

have you been to this website before: http://www.ilxor.com/ILX/. on some of the threads people argue about stuff other people think is unimportant. on some threads people argue about stuff they themselves think is unimportant. on this thread no one is arguing. i have no idea what you're talking about.

caek, Thursday, 2 September 2010 15:51 (thirteen years ago) link

k¸ (darraghmac), Thursday, 2 September 2010 15:53 (thirteen years ago) link

caek, Thursday, 2 September 2010 15:56 (thirteen years ago) link

QANTAS!

former moderator, please give generously (DG), Thursday, 2 September 2010 15:58 (thirteen years ago) link

a very trivial gripe about iTunes 10: it no longer shows the artwork for albums of less than five songs in the "album by artist" column on the right of the main list. Yeah, it still shows in the in the "now playing" square in the bottom right (in the "source" column), but I liked seeing all the art in that other column too. Also it's shrunk the size of the art in the "album by artist" column too.

Euler, Thursday, 2 September 2010 16:03 (thirteen years ago) link

there's an 'always show artwork' option under view

former moderator, please give generously (DG), Thursday, 2 September 2010 16:04 (thirteen years ago) link

hot damn

Euler, Thursday, 2 September 2010 16:09 (thirteen years ago) link

i found the way to resize the artwork but then i forgot it. that'll be the early-onset alzheimer's

former moderator, please give generously (DG), Thursday, 2 September 2010 16:10 (thirteen years ago) link

can't wait until i have to friend people in every program i use - word, excel, final cut pro

real s1ock (s1ocki), Thursday, 2 September 2010 16:12 (thirteen years ago) link

people still use word and excel? google apps imo

mh, Thursday, 2 September 2010 16:16 (thirteen years ago) link

on corporate campuses you already can use Office Communicator to track a friend list for office apps and it inserts the proper links to message or email them.

mh, Thursday, 2 September 2010 16:17 (thirteen years ago) link

if you click and hold on the artwork column title you have an option to change the size. i win

former moderator, please give generously (DG), Thursday, 2 September 2010 16:24 (thirteen years ago) link

haha yes I just figured that out too; ok, that's much better!

Euler, Thursday, 2 September 2010 16:25 (thirteen years ago) link

speaking as some one who not only doesnt have aspergers but has actual real friends and even a girlfriend, the new itunes is ugly

max, Thursday, 2 September 2010 16:45 (thirteen years ago) link

your going to need to break that down, max. i'm is dealing with issues in re: how other people's interests and opinions could be different to my own.

caek, Thursday, 2 September 2010 16:50 (thirteen years ago) link

I like this new iTunes, guys. Dunno about this Ping thing

mh, Thursday, 2 September 2010 16:52 (thirteen years ago) link

I have made the statement that if the iPhone 4 starts coming with sixty-four gee bees I will buy one.

mh, Thursday, 2 September 2010 16:52 (thirteen years ago) link

to get rid of the itunes store arrows in your lib:
defaults write com.apple.iTunes show-store-arrow-links -bool FALSE

to get horizontal min/max/close buttons:
defaults write com.apple.iTunes full-window -boolean YES

trivial fursuit (diamonddave85), Thursday, 2 September 2010 17:04 (thirteen years ago) link

when you hover over the album artwork window when an album is playing you get itunes controls - is that new?

ultimusmoron (cozen), Thursday, 2 September 2010 20:56 (thirteen years ago) link

doesn't happen for me

stet, Thursday, 2 September 2010 21:07 (thirteen years ago) link

it's the window that pops out when you click the artwork in the main itunes app

ultimusmoron (cozen), Thursday, 2 September 2010 21:11 (thirteen years ago) link

(... and the track/album has to be playing)

ultimusmoron (cozen), Thursday, 2 September 2010 21:11 (thirteen years ago) link

oh, ye, that's been there since they brought in the movie player i think

stet, Thursday, 2 September 2010 21:18 (thirteen years ago) link

huh, i don't see that now (still on the old version)

Nhex, Thursday, 2 September 2010 21:23 (thirteen years ago) link

you can pull the corner to make the artwork box MASSIVE too

former moderator, please give generously (DG), Thursday, 2 September 2010 21:36 (thirteen years ago) link

i got a magic trackpad.

cutty, Friday, 3 September 2010 23:22 (thirteen years ago) link

shit is magic.

cutty, Friday, 3 September 2010 23:22 (thirteen years ago) link

i wish i had waited and got that instead of a magic mouse - it came out like 3 days after i couldnt bring it back any more - not like i knew it was coming but argh

so is it good?

real s1ock (s1ocki), Friday, 3 September 2010 23:23 (thirteen years ago) link

i have a magic mouse at work and i really like it (also hooked up to an iMac), and i was thinking of buying another one for home to replace my old and buggy mighty mouse (the trackball would always get clogged up)

decided to go with the trackpad instead and i'm really liking it. something very satisfying about not having to drag the a mouse around the desk all the time. i do a lot of document editing and it's been working great.

cutty, Friday, 3 September 2010 23:35 (thirteen years ago) link

it also looks damn cool!

cutty, Friday, 3 September 2010 23:36 (thirteen years ago) link

habit would say you keep the trackpad on your right like a mouse but i'm liking it front and center, like a laptop, but above my keyboard

cutty, Friday, 3 September 2010 23:36 (thirteen years ago) link

ya i'm just so used to trackpad from my laptop (i hook my laptop up to a keyboard + mouse + monitor at home) that at first i was really craving it. now i'm not sure.

real s1ock (s1ocki), Friday, 3 September 2010 23:46 (thirteen years ago) link
