Teddybears.SHTML (sic), Monday, 6 September 2010 14:01 (thirteen years ago) link

I've lost his phone number and am a social-network-free zone at work, anyone else able to oblige?

Am not actually sure I'll make it myself, tbh, but I'll do my very bestest.

ailsa, Monday, 6 September 2010 14:19 (thirteen years ago) link

Ha ha, never change, Glasgow.

Teddybears.SHTML (sic), Monday, 6 September 2010 14:41 (thirteen years ago) link

I work in the middle of the countryside! City centre working people have no excuse though (except Ward, he has a good excuse).

ailsa, Monday, 6 September 2010 14:42 (thirteen years ago) link

Totally late to thread, and a total stranger, but I can't recommend the five tapas for £10 deal in Stereo on a Monday enough. I've never been to the Pot Still, I must try it.

Enjoy Fever Ray, those of you going, and try not get too wound up by the over-enthusiastic security staff at the o2 ABC...

get the fuck out of my mouth (boxedjoy), Monday, 6 September 2010 16:59 (thirteen years ago) link

it was me and krakow with sic and his mates. v. nice to meet them & no, i didn't get my ass in gear to go out last night.

earlier on today i was in town with my mum heading to john lewis along sauchihall street. just outside bhs there were some buskers playing with quite a full set up - drums, bass guitar and a singer - the singer was miked through an amp. just as i was approaching they were playing radiohead's "creep" and the singer was singing that line "i wish i was special/ you're so fucking special" and he actually sang "fucking special" which i instantly took exception to. does thom yorke sing "fucking special" twice in the song? because this singer did. it made me feel a bit depressed to hear that sung in public.

well, i got a bit riled up about it, maybe too much so. once they had finished the song i went up to the guy who was singing and told him that i really thought he shouldn't sing "fucking" on a public street (i said "the f word" even though i normally wouldn't) with families and children and whatever else walking up and down and the guy and the rest of the "band" just stared at me like i was mental, which got me even more riled up so i asked the guy if he thought that was acceptable. they all just stared at me til the guitar guy said "noted" very sarcastically and i walked away feeling like a mad person. but i think i was right to confront the guy no? i would never do that sort of thing but i don't think it was right to sing the f word.

the end.

jed_, Monday, 6 September 2010 19:18 (thirteen years ago) link

In the original version of the song he only says 'fucking' and never 'very'.

One of the things I like about Britain is the rather cavalier attitude towards language in public places. It's refreshing and nice.

a cankle of rads (Gukbe), Monday, 6 September 2010 19:26 (thirteen years ago) link

Sorry I never made it out, had some stuff to do on the way home from work and by the time I got a bus into town it would have been nearer seven by the time I got in, just in time to have a beer and turn round and go home again.

ailsa, Monday, 6 September 2010 19:36 (thirteen years ago) link

That's great jed and you were right, if for no other reason than if swearing in public doesn't attract disapproval, what do you do when you really want to let rip. Also because that song is such a lame example of it. I sometimes want to do stuff like that but have no idea how to tick kids off, even the ones who were pulling my neighbour's fence apart last week. Sorry it didn't really work out.

I'll in be in town on the 16th (week on Thursday) to see Wilco - it would be good to meet up if anyone's available...

treefell, Tuesday, 7 September 2010 14:38 (thirteen years ago) link

That'll be three nights out in a row next week for me if I make it into town on a Thursday - still, would be good to meet a new face and I believe I still owe you a beer for automating the SPL predictor and saving me some counting up. Tentative yes from me. Suspect Mono and the Note will be busy pre-gig (it's at the Barrowlands, aye?), so consider this request suitably NOTMONOed.

oh right, they look like every single old woman in glasgow, that's why.

Whoever invented that hairdo should have patented it.

Madchen, Saturday, 11 September 2010 14:44 (thirteen years ago) link

My mum is completely obsessed with the fact that Glasgow women walk around in pairs looking identical. I hadn't even noticed it was a thing until she pointed it out, and it totally is.

ailsa, Sunday, 12 September 2010 14:44 (thirteen years ago) link

I would bet good money that at least one of those women is named Jean.

The Pope's got a gig on at Bellahouston Park, so apparently we're having a traffic apocalypse that day. Will absolutely try to make it though, what time you over at?

ailsa, Sunday, 12 September 2010 17:39 (thirteen years ago) link

There's a chance I'll be shooting Wilco, if I can't get the go ahead to shoot the Pope that is.

krakow, Sunday, 12 September 2010 18:47 (thirteen years ago) link

when i met krakow i told him i had seen him cycling along maryhill road once, from my living room window, then i saw him tonight as well and i shouted "4lex!"at him out of my window like a crazy person.

now he probably thinks i'm a nutter who stands looking out of my window all day and shouting at people.

jed_, Monday, 13 September 2010 01:09 (thirteen years ago) link

It was a grand coincidence. I didn't mind one bit.

I'll be in Glasgow from around 3 on Thursday (depending on how crazy the trains are).

a cankle of rads (Gukbe), Wednesday, 15 September 2010 17:01 (thirteen years ago) link

did they set the fixture date deliberately so the rangers tards are still comatose in manchester gutters when the pope is in glasgow?

Chinedu "Edu" Obasi Ogbuke (nakhchivan), Wednesday, 15 September 2010 17:01 (thirteen years ago) link

treefell, can you post here or on your facebook wall (or mine) where you'll be around 5.30/6-ish and I'll do my very best to make it?

ailsa, Wednesday, 15 September 2010 17:26 (thirteen years ago) link

I haven't actually got any plans, Ailsa. If there's any place you'd recommend, then I'll be happy to go there.

Mono

jed_, Wednesday, 15 September 2010 18:12 (thirteen years ago) link

You're headed to Wilco @ Barrowlands, right treefell?

krakow, Wednesday, 15 September 2010 20:25 (thirteen years ago) link

Yeah, that's right krakow.

treefell, Wednesday, 15 September 2010 21:28 (thirteen years ago) link

Look out for the red-haired cyclist guy in the photo pit. That's me.

krakow, Wednesday, 15 September 2010 21:31 (thirteen years ago) link

It does also make Mono rather convenient... ;-)

krakow, Wednesday, 15 September 2010 21:31 (thirteen years ago) link

NOT FOR ME, IT ISN'T. Also, won't everyone going to Wilco be going to Mono?

ailsa, Wednesday, 15 September 2010 23:18 (thirteen years ago) link

(though my attendance is not guaranteed, so I will just go with the flow)

ailsa, Wednesday, 15 September 2010 23:18 (thirteen years ago) link

I want to catch Phil Selway (he of Radiohead drumming duties now playing solo) in support, so I'll head to the Barras for 7:30pm or so whatever plan materialises.

krakow, Wednesday, 15 September 2010 23:24 (thirteen years ago) link

you cycle in the pit? v irresponsible!

ah I miss going to Glasgow + gigs. Whar's me lottery win.

Antoine Bugleboy (Merdeyeux), Wednesday, 15 September 2010 23:29 (thirteen years ago) link

er, except that reminds me that I'm going to Joanna Newsom at the Royal Concert Hall on Monday. Good work, memory. Anyone know what time I can expect things there to end?

Antoine Bugleboy (Merdeyeux), Wednesday, 15 September 2010 23:31 (thirteen years ago) link

it varies from artist to artist. Sometimes as early as 10, but never any later than quarter past 11.

a cankle of rads (Gukbe), Wednesday, 15 September 2010 23:34 (thirteen years ago) link

alright, worst case scenario of missing an encore to catch the lovely last Megabus then. Cheeeeeers.

Antoine Bugleboy (Merdeyeux), Wednesday, 15 September 2010 23:39 (thirteen years ago) link

I'll see you at Newsom. I'll be the one cycling up & down the aisles with my camera in hand.
