Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 04:40 (eighteen years ago) link

Al Shipley. Too many things to list, and I knew him before ILX, but if I never got acquainted w him online all them years ago, my career and life as it stands right now probably wouldn't exist.

LeCoq (LeCoq), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 05:08 (eighteen years ago) link

Ah, see my doppelganger already posted, so I'm going to have to pick another person:

1) Moved around like an army brat
2) Spent a lot of their teen years in Upstate NY
3) Sci Fi geek!
4) Loves dronerock
5) Also magically appears on any Spacemen 3 thread...
6) Has lovely pretty long hair

If it weren't for his heterosexual life partner Dan, I would be Ned Raggett!

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 10:28 (eighteen years ago) link

amazing randy

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 10:35 (eighteen years ago) link

Hahaha Kate!

Beyond the obvious (Ned) and the obvious-that-no-one-knows-about (John Justen, seeing as we grew up together and were super best friends who had all the same classes, did all the same after-school activities, shared a music collection and had something like a 30% overlap in romantic interests/entanglements) there's the all-new revelation of giboyeux, who also went to my high school and has an older sister who graduated with the younger brother of one of my exes.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 10:41 (eighteen years ago) link

There is no one else like me on ILx, or indeed in the world.

(I could type that sentence in the Comstock Carabinieri sense and it would still be true)

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 10:48 (eighteen years ago) link

apart from randy, maybe there's another ilxor who has/is..

- love for curry/cheapo burgers
- a pisshead
- love for fat animals
- punners of pwns
- gemini
- recently started going to the gym
- a fan of the streaks
- quote song lyrics/tv show scripts with every opportunity
- obsession with doing pointless retarded little things

Haw. That'd be parakeet_esparanto then!

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 10:49 (eighteen years ago) link

There is no one else like me on ILx, or indeed in the world.

Er, except Caitlin...? (You answered this question on the "Should I go to this party?" thread.)

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 10:51 (eighteen years ago) link

You are quite correct to point that out.

Caitlin is now my favourite ILxor.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 10:53 (eighteen years ago) link

GARU G WE BOTH LIKE TEH SAME THIGN

Amon (eman), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 10:56 (eighteen years ago) link

I guess I'd have to pick either Remy or Kate from Australia. Both are about the same age as me; Remy likes the same movies and seems to have a similar sensibility towards life and everything, whereas Kate often seems to post the exact same thing I was about to say myself.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 10:58 (eighteen years ago) link

I can't think of anyone, and can't decide if that's a good thing or a bad thing. Just a thing, I guess.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 11:39 (eighteen years ago) link

ken c pwns stuff
i pwn stuff

um
tenuous, but there you have it.

g-kit (g-kit), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 11:42 (eighteen years ago) link

I don't think I know any of you well enough to answer this question, I spose my 'things' would be:

- drastically switches between introvert and extrovert, daily
- love for all things 'warp' labelled
- one of those guys who ends up being 'just good friends' with girls instead of anything more intimate.

i can't think of anymore and I even regret posting those but I'm fed up of retracting all my posts in ilx lately. sod it.

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 11:55 (eighteen years ago) link

Haikunym and I have the same alma mater and I know a good friend of his from undergrad.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 12:15 (eighteen years ago) link

That is true indeed.
The strangest connection here
was me and jack_cole,

who went to the same
high school! but have nothing else
in common, alas

Haikunym (Haikunym), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 12:34 (eighteen years ago) link

college wise and career wise: Anna I suppose, and all the other journalist people. other than that I'm not sure, I identify with alot of you at different times.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 12:37 (eighteen years ago) link

I empathise a lot with Kenan - maybe I see him as the most like-me of the American ILX contingent.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 12:41 (eighteen years ago) link

Keep 'em coming, people! If you have a lot of things in common that's fine, but these kind of "went to the same high school but have nothing else in common" things are good too, and in fact may be more of what I was looking for originally.

Ken L (Ken L), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 12:57 (eighteen years ago) link

If that is true Ronan then you have aprox. two years before the liking indie gene kicks back in. (But thanks, I'd probably have said that too.)

Anna (Anna), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 13:12 (eighteen years ago) link

I think this will probably happen eventually cos of work! we sell an unbelievable amount of feist/nouvelle vague/husky rescue type cds and there's only so many times you can pretend to like them when a customer asks about them without eventually just sort of liking them.

though in other ways work has pushed me even further down the dance route/boring catalog number discussions with customers due to the simple joy of meeting someone in your small city who likes lawrence or something!

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 13:18 (eighteen years ago) link

Threads like this make me realise how little I register about other ILXors :(

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 13:22 (eighteen years ago) link

sadly, i concure.

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 13:24 (eighteen years ago) link

no I don't, i concur.

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 13:24 (eighteen years ago) link

"a) Lived in New Haven during the 80s"

Jeez, I hate to burst Ken's psychic twin bubble, but I wasn't living in New Haven in the 80's. I was living in Connecticut in the 80's though! So, close enough. And I spent a lot of time in New Haven in the 80's. And I do love Mad TV and Jim Thompson and I do have 2 kids. And Wire. I love Wire. I mean, no offense to the Minutemen, but sheesh, no contest for me on that one.

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 13:25 (eighteen years ago) link

well, you two have that much in common, at least.

xpost, yo

g-kit (g-kit), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 13:25 (eighteen years ago) link

scott, you are dead to me now.

Ken L (Ken L), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 13:26 (eighteen years ago) link

This ones easy for me. Adam Crankypants0r.

Aha yes, it's spooky. Too often one will say something obscure and the other will pick up the reference.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 13:27 (eighteen years ago) link

Noone (thank god for you guys/girls).

nathalie's baby (stevie nixed), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 13:28 (eighteen years ago) link

Let me clarify some more. I wasn't looking for psychic twins - not to insult scott, but I never thought he was mine. Part of my intent in starting this thread was to use it as a place to deposit some of the informational flotsam and jetsam accumulated after spending a lot of time at ILX- to offload, or dememe, if you will, even if the meme is only in your own head. But if you think you found your psychic twin, go ahead and tell us.

Ken L (Ken L), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 13:32 (eighteen years ago) link

You mean that voice in my head isn't you, ken? then who is it? In any case, I will think of you the next time the baby poops on my grandfather's ancient Yale blanket that is on top of the changing table.

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 13:35 (eighteen years ago) link

Haikunym lives in the same town as me and went to undergrad with the tuba player from my band (right?).

Jess and I have similar taste in girls and beats.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 13:36 (eighteen years ago) link

I think it's Dink Stover calling you from the Great Beyond, scott. You guys don't use those changing mats?

Ken L (Ken L), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 13:42 (eighteen years ago) link

nabisco and I are both black!

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 13:43 (eighteen years ago) link

Dan Perry lives in Boston and I get Boston stations on my t.v.!

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 13:46 (eighteen years ago) link

Jordan: I only know Eric from my old job, not from college. But it sounds like we're both on the same track re: taste in ladeez, as Jess has always shone a beacon through the wilderness in that regard. (It's times like this week, with the summer fashions everywhere, that I LOVE living in Madison, do you not agree?)

Haikunym (Haikunym), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 13:47 (eighteen years ago) link

i live in north london, did an arts degree, and grew up on the music press: who wants to touch me?

N_RQ, Wednesday, 1 June 2005 13:49 (eighteen years ago) link

I hardly know anyone well enough on the list to draw any conclusive parallels, but the first ILX'r to come to mind is Jody (both New Yorkers, both Devo fans). That's about it.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 13:53 (eighteen years ago) link

If it weren't for his heterosexual life partner Dan, I would be Ned Raggett!

Heheheh. :-) Kate is the goodness.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 13:56 (eighteen years ago) link

heterosexual life partner

I'm glad to see this term getting circulation.

giboyeux (skowly), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 13:58 (eighteen years ago) link

It's times like this week, with the summer fashions everywhere, that I LOVE living in Madison, do you not agree?

Yes. Yes, I do.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 13:59 (eighteen years ago) link

It should be noted that my New Haven roots are deep & strong. My ancestors lived in the New Haven Colony and helped to found the town of Guilford on the Long Island Sound not far from New Haven. This was in the 1600's. But please do not confuse us with the Milford branch of Sewards. Oh, that wouldn't do at all! No relation, you see. Even if they did have the more famous relation (william henry seward - secretary of state under lincoln, etc).

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 14:01 (eighteen years ago) link

the first ILX'r to come to mind is Jody

ha, I was just thinking that if anyone it's Jody and Alex, given that intangible native New York-ness. Alex and I both went to private prep schools. And Jody and I both like the Southwest (and other places). But we're all New Yorkers in different ways, I think.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 14:02 (eighteen years ago) link

Wait a minute, Seward, you been coasting on your family name? OUT OUT! I know you played that Milford branch game when you were a young swinger! "Hey baby, wanna talk to a guy who's related to someone who was almost killed when Lincoln was shot?"

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 14:04 (eighteen years ago) link

"bought alaska for 2 cents an acre, baby. those russians didn't even see him coming. another drink, my pet?"

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 14:05 (eighteen years ago) link

A lot of ilxors have library related jobs, that's about the only similarity I see, really.

Leon hearts Crazy Frog (Ex Leon), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 14:06 (eighteen years ago) link

Eisbär (llamasfur), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 14:08 (eighteen years ago) link

Like almost every other male ILXor, I have testicles!

The Ghost of Needless Shit-stirring (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 14:10 (eighteen years ago) link

Alex and I both went to private prep schools.

Ummmm....Loyola School is private, but it's not a prep school. "Preparatory", yes, but not a "prep school" in the prestigious sorta sense of the term.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 14:11 (eighteen years ago) link

Please don't confuse that with me attempting to assert that "i'm a street kid, hard to the bone, me!" Loyola was fine, but it's a damn far cry from Deerfield or Andover.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 14:12 (eighteen years ago) link

I am unique.

it's funny how many people say that

RJG (RJG), Friday, 3 June 2005 00:42 (eighteen years ago) link

in terms of this thread, this board, I think so

Miss Misery (thatgirl), Friday, 3 June 2005 00:43 (eighteen years ago) link

Okay, long shot here: Who in here is a half-Spanish, half-Mexican twentysomething from the Southwest quadrant of the U.S. who is hugely enamored of '80s New Wave & New Romantic music and styles, who does crossword puzzles for fun, who has really long hair, an olive complexion, a love for Wheat Thins and Diet Coke with Lime, who loves watching programs about food, who's Catholic, and who is pretty much a homebody?

i'm an expatriate new york jew late-twentysomething kicking it in the southwest, and i've got all the new wave/new romantic you can shake a stick at, and i'm into xword puzzles/scrabble/literati, and i have pretty long hair (and pale skin), and wheat thins are ok and diet coke is one of my major food groups (although diet dr. pepper might just take over), and yeah, i still watch food tv when i get a chance although i find myself yelling at the screen a lot more than i used to.

Mmm, macky cheese.

Rock Hardy (Rock Hardy), Friday, 3 June 2005 01:10 (eighteen years ago) link

Mac and cheese is great. Day-old mac and cheese is of the devil.
