By rights this ought to be great and yet I must be about a third of the way through it and feel zero enthusiasm to watch the rest. Certainly not helped by the fact that the sound quality is absolute shite - although frankly Noddy, Dave, Don and Jim's acting doesn't help matters.

SLAYED is one of those junkshop impulse purchases which has become a regular and dependable mood-lifter. As perfect in its way as any of the early Ramones LPs.

I just got my hands on the Slade Box that was released last fall and I'm stunned. I'm too young to have lived through their first glory days (which missed the US anyways) but jumped on board when Quiet Riot shat out their covers and "My Oh My" and "Run Runaway" were all over MTV. Even bought Rogue's Gallery when it came out and liked a good deal of it. But though I had the relatively recent Get Your Boots On comp in my collection I just didn't have a clue as to how monumentally awesome these guys were!

And, to my ears, they sound pretty unique. I can hear where some of their stomp and bombast influenced AC/DC and some punk, and the nice booklet that came with the set quotes Gene Simmons on Slade's importance on Kiss (both in sound and career path - kill 'em live and critics be damned, as it were). But none of these artists touch that Slade sound - they are just singular. Slade. Nothing else.

Anyways, the box set really is killer. Sounds much better than Get Your Boots On, and even at 80-odd songs I want more. Time to import Slade Alive!

aww, man... why didn't anyone TELL ME when i was younger how great slade were (other than the fact that no one in the USA seems to have heard of them)? having only recently discovered their early stuff i am in total fucking awe. i've got their songs going through my head 24 hours a day. i feel bad that the majority of my life i just thought of them as the gurning hat freaks from the "run runaway" video.

You clown. Slade preceded Cheap Trick by a great deal re rock 'n' roll time. It would be vice versa if anything. And if you knew anything about Cheap Trick you'd know that on a DVD they put out a year ago one of 'em confessed to seeing a landmark Slade gig in the States, one I was at. "Geez, they use every cheap trick in the book," said the pre-Cheap Trick guy prior to forming Cheap Trick.

That's not far from what I was thinking, fuckwit. Also Rick Nielsen/Bun E. were active from the mid60s or so, much like Slade, etc etc etc, "confessed"? What the fuck's that supposed to mean? Did Lemmy ever CONFESS to going to a Ramones show?

i really loved them in the mid 70s. i had a couple of singles. but i don't remember one song by them.

time to rediscover ..

i just listened to "cum on feel the noize" and i must say that it is really rubbish. it wasn't one of my singles though. i was about 13 when i was a fan, i also loved the sweet at the time. i think glam rock may have been fun at the time but most of it didn't age particularly well.

Been listening a lot to "Slayed?". Love that album. This performance is pretty great, I like how the lead singer has all these buttons stuck to his hat, so they catch the light and leave temporary glowing circles from blowing out the cameras.

Got a nice vinyl copy of the In Flame soundtrack today (American version, with a shuffled tracklist and "The Bangin' Man" added).
